I usually use a Mac to play GPP, which has WiFi and a dual core 2 duo. It works great, maxes at 150 FPS.
However, it's a school computer, and I don't have it anymore, and am forced to use my Windows PC. It has quad core 2 duo, and is connected via cable, giving me a 20 FPS boost on all servers.
But there's one big problem. A game sapping, huge, deathly problem.
Whenever someone else other than me fires a gun, I get a huuge lag spike (Connection Inturupted error on screen) for an instant, which gives the impression of getting 1 FPS when in reality my PC maxes at 320 FPS (I use 120 but it can go that high)
So is there some cvar, or SOMETHING that can make the game PLAYABLE again? The specs of the PC are better than the laptop, connection is better, everything is better. But it lags whenever someone else shoots! Help!

Using Windows 7

Make sure rate is set to 25000, and try playing with cl_maxpackets, bigger is better but it sounds like it could be too high atm.

IIRC 40000 is a better rate...cl_maxpackets is best at 60 I think...

Most (all?) servers have rate set to 25000, so going higher is generally pointless.
And max packets will vary depending on network speed and fps. What works for you won't work for someone else.

Official US1 has both sv_minrate and sv_maxrate at 0.

Solved.
