Yep that's what I've observed with the humans,
many times they lose from total newbies building.
Maybe we could have a mini tutorial within trem for them regarding building?
I could take the screenshots of good and poor bases,
and explain(arrows, text, etc) briefly why they are good or bad.
I've become pretty good at human and alien bases with the default set of maps..........

Within Trem? There are ideas floating around for that now. F50 is working on something with AMP to provide a Tremulous tutorial. It's still in progress, so wait for it.
Outside of Trem, I've been working on a series of guides. One of them will be a sort of "Essentials of Building" thing.
For now, if you spot shitbuilding, call a denybuild vote.

Maybe we could be more helpful and help the newbies learn how to play.
-
I usually do help them out , however the best way is to let the watch.
However explaining things like marauders will destroy this crappy base in 10 seconds,
or the rc can get chewed from behind isn't easy.
-
Let them learn from their mistakes?
-
In a fast moving game with lots going on, it's sometimes very hard to link cause and effect, and so you need a lot of mistakes before you can reliably learn from them.

"base is zap bait" and "rc is vulnerable" is too hard?
its how us habitual alien players tell the team o do those things and wreck the human base.
if they shitbuild, denybuild them, then tell them to defend and watch.
thats how i learned the few maps i know how to build, and how to build in a pinch if there is no other alternative.

I hear ya, but what always happens is:
- Newbie builds poorly and it's no big deal
- Base starts getting killed
- Newbie gets called a retard and has his build rights taken away.
Sometimes you have to just let them build and live with it. If they really care about getting better at building, they eventually will. If they don't care, they will move on and start shooting smiley faces on the wall. :-*

This.

I always say to people complaining about bad builders, if you want a job done properly do it yourself. Very few builders are worse than no builder, since the default base is typically (intentionally, in fact) awful and/or incomplete.
if they shitbuild, denybuild them, then tell them to defend and watch.
That's obnoxious. Talk first, denybuild only those who won't listen. As ever, the best remedy is usually picking up a ckit yourself.

I usually do it myself and leave them a great stage 2 base.
But someone gets the wise idea of using 100% teslas....
It seems that if we had an integrated system in the Tremulous info that's ingame(what we have right now but a mini guide) would really help the terrible building.

Or arrows on the floor. I used to do that to enjoy the double-take new players on the alien team did.....

I know what you mean by having them learn, Coco is a prime example.
He was new, now he is better then I am at building.

Building is just meant to ward off attackers while you are attacking their base. Building does not win the game for you, it is mainly just so you could have some kind of base to come to. Most of the time no one wants to build. So a hastily done "packed" base is all you could do.
