Title: Getting into Blender (with my "BotZoid" model)

Verts: 5049
Build Time: 5h 30m
Other: Blender version 2.57 stable, no mirror modifier or referrence image.

This is a spider droid thingy I've been building as I teach myself blender. The model itself is in the late modelling/early optimizing phase, before I move on to animation tutorials. The newer versions (of blender) are much more streamlined and simple to use, and mercifully there are loads of tutorials now that seem to come out daily. To get to this point in my project, I used the tutorials I've linked to below:

>> Neal Hirsig's Beginning Blender tutorials << (http://www.moddb.com/tutorials/blender-25x-video-tutorials-by-neal-hirsig)

>> Blender 2.5 Interface << (http://www.blendtuts.com/2010/06/blender-25-interface.html)

P.S. The thing floating above the robot is an internal component which will be part of an animation. I will be working on this project through as many tutorials as I can find, which I will share with you once I find them. Feedback is appreciated.

It was just begging :P
I saw some of your animations on YT. Can you tell me which tuts to aim for? I know there are many but you may have sifted to the good ones, you never know...

Legs look a bit spindly for something of that size but I suppose it could be made of an extremely durable material...

Hmm, yeah I was afraid of that. I'll work on it some more and see what happens.

Here is a more completed model. I've beefed up the struts a little to make them appear stronger, but not too much stronger. Some other minor tweaks as well. Will move on to animation phase.

The legs are too fat at their "climax". Make it teh same size, but thin out the fat parts of the leg just a bit.
It looks like a cooling machine.
"Keep your Grangercola cold!"
If you put two guns of the side of the barrel it looks more like a probe.
Maybe add 3 legs instead of 4? It would reduce the vert count and make it look more like a probe.
In the first picture, you have something floating over the probe. What is it?
