Words going around that X Server was DDOSed and received permanent damage.
Is this true?
-
X server? That server with the ridiculous changes to the game's numerical data with flying low-gravity grangers and insta-killing blasters?
Nothing of value was lost.
edit: It's up, what are you talking about? It's the one currently running treecannon in this screenshot:

That's pretty hardcore. What length and what reason?

goddamn, sometimes i wish people actually knew what a DDoS was and what it did.

Hello, I am one of the server operators of the server running X.
The server has not received any kind of permanent damage. We have not been under any DDoS.
I do not know why your IP is banned. It might have been a collateral for a troublemaker's subnet ban.
If you are unable to connect to http://xserverx.com/forums to ask why you're banned, please send me an email with your current IP address to butterfly.trem at gmail com and I will check things out.
Regards

Stop hating on the X server because it has more players than gpp.
-
haha, it doesn't take a server very much to have more players than all of gpp.
-
I'd rather not have the people from X server on GPP anyways. Populating the game will help it grow back again, but only if the people populating it are intelligent enough to know how to contribute to the game themselves. Ex. Make/join clans that compete.
-
Yes, flooding a game with 10 new clantags per week all filled with the same people is the sure way to help any game!

Dracone is putting a bit too much faith in the non-clan-scene US1 GPP players, yes, but they're better than X in all other regards. We're flooded with clans by mediocre foreign players who seems to be relatively new to FPS. That seems to be the trend, anyway.

because there is no possible way to enjoy or contribute to the game unless you are a member of a clam, amirite?

Thorn's post was just a sarcastic response out of misunderstanding what I meant. He doesn't have any legitimate involvement in this game anymore anyways and just comes here to fuck with people.
@Plague Bringer: Your post misunderstood it even further. I think that staying out of the competitive clan scene means that you're helping the game at a bare minimum level, unless you're doing developmental work. A huge reason that the game died down was because the competition died down. No competitive scene means no interest for competitive players who want to scrim and match.
A player who doesn't get into clans and ends up leaving the game, that will pretty much always do no damage to the game. If a player is a key member of a clan, and he leaves the game, the clan may weaken or die, which results in a weaker clan scene, and if the clan scene is already weak as it is, the whole thing can break down, leading to the possibility of many players leaving the game. You can do the figuring to realize how else this might happen from similar scenarios.
Clans that form purely for the sake of forming a clan are useless though, and yeah, they're popping up a lot still. That probably happens in every game where the idea of making a clan can come up.
Clans that compete but are unstable (see Sonic's "How to Make 100 Clans in a Year") still contribute for a time, and the members of these clans tend to just hop as soon as the clan dies or goes inactive. Keep in mind that the idea is for the competition to be noticeable in the full scope of the game; it doesn't matter who's in what clan, so long as there are enough active clans for the competition to continue.
Stable, skilled clans are necessary to create a reason to compete other than fun. The concept of improving and being better as a group is one driving force for founding clans.
Anyways, if you don't like the idea of clans at all, then it doesn't matter at all because you're all happy and content with your public games, which don't require much. If you don't like clans, but you bitch and moan about the game being dead, shut the fuck up.
Could care less if this is off topic btw, this whole topic doesn't even belong on this site. Lol X Server.

Since most of the dev team doesn't do anything being in a clan(clams are for mediocre players who have admin on US 1)is one of the only ways to contribute 2 the communities.
-
nonsense
I am kind of impressed by how wrong you are about so many things.

Lol. Try administrating a server, then we'll talk.
TBH I think making huds or mapping are the easiest ways to contribute to the Tremulous community. Next would be running a server, but finding good admins can be rather difficult. After that, organize a tournament with prizes.
-
Lol. Try being more of a person no one gives a shit about.
TBH HUDS and maps would be meaningless without clans, or a competitive community. So Mr. Retarded RL name with numbers substituted for vowels go play a diff game becasuse u dont kno shit bout this 1

So you're saying that you can't enjoy a nice HuD or map without being in a clan? Or are you just trying to be sarcastic again?
Typing out your words and punctuation helps a lot
-
y u make the acronym for HUD "HuD"???
But 4real tho i'm sure people like PPNL, tremhelper, and yourself might enjoy nice maps and HUDs but without a competitive scene in this game it'll die. The GPP tournament which surprisingly isn't that much of a colossal failure helped bring back clans and players who wouldn't be playing this game otherwise. You can make all the maps and HUDs you want, but what's the point if the community is full of people like swamp-cecil, Josh's Tomato Clown Fish, and PCNobody which is what this game is becoming full of.

Heads-up Display?
Other than that, tl;dr clans rule y'all posting in a throll thread.
-
I love the typical dracone/plaguebringer response. "oh we're so much better at tremulous than them" and "fuck Xserver noobs" Well, hope you like playing by your elite selves, because noone else in the world gives 2 shits that you are so awesome at vanilla tremulous.
People play a game because it's fun, and thats what Xserver has provided for this community for several years. Whether or not YOU think it's fun is completely irrelevant. More people play X/W than any other server or server group in tremulous PERIOD. And thats been the case for YEARS. You can sit there and stick your fingers in your ears all you want, but at the end of the day they provide something people like more than vanilla/gpp.
As far as clans and scrims are concerned, if they were so awesome the clan scene would have never died out. What is more likely is that some members of this community have spent all their time demonizing huge portions of the community to the point that most people NEVER CHECK THESE FORUMS, instead they go to 3rd party community websites where they dont have to put up with retards that make ridiculous comments like those i mentioned above.
Ive made these arguments several times before, but people are people and that's one thing that i have zero faith will ever change about the tremulous community.
-
Well aren't you offended!

Quantity != quality.

He just thinks that because we can beat his clan in a scrim.

I'm amazed that you would make a post about the community and clan scene about your clan beating "my" clan. Truth of the matter is we beat your shit clan 99 times out of 100. We use subs such as Myth, Taco, and PPNL and still wipe the floor with you. Get better members, a new attitude, and learn to respect clans that have been around longer than you've been playing the game.

Everyone plays for fun, yes. And everyone has their different tastes of fun. I played X for about week when I preferred 1.1, but for me, I saw it dull.
For everytime I try to go play, I only see that flock moved to server that has most players. That's why EU server is empty in GPP, same applies to Brindus server (I see it always empty) and TremX server (REAPD WHY THE SERVER IS NOT OPEN btw.)
As a few last words, everyone has their different tastes of fun. This is not about me being elitist, purist or something similar. Besides, I have attuned to gpp, so gg. =P
