Title: 1.1.0 or 1.2?
Post by: Diggs on August 24, 2011, 12:08:59 am
G'day to all and to those I have not "seen" in so long.  I have been thinking of returning for some Tremulous game-play but I don't know where the majority of game-play is these days.  Are there more servers and gamers on 1.2 or 1.1.0.  Is 1.2 backwards compatible with 1.1.0?

Thanks!

No, GPP is not backwards compatible.

More people play 1.1.

I suggest you start GPP. It will become 1.2 when it is released. 1.1 has perhaps 1 active vanilla server in NA.

GPP has the beginnings of a clan scene and some competitive play going on, 1.1 has dozens of lolservers running ridiculous mods and a handful of rusty old pros who just aren't good enough to compete in gpp.

1.) All the people on GPP are fat.
2.) J-cool has been sighted on AA in 1.1, and he is the entire clan scene on 1.2.
3.) All the pros play 1.1, e.g. me.
4.) AA is still very active, averages at around 20 players weekdays and more on weekends.
5.) GPPsux.
6.) And saying you should join GPP because it will turn into 1.2 is like saying you should buy a tree because it'll be worth alot of money in the globally warmed apocalypse. Neither is gonna happen any time soon.
7.) Tremulant is delusional.

I think i remember your name, you used to play on AA right? sommat like [!!!]Diggs ? Velkom Back

Playing 1.1 is like making shit and wanking in the city center mid day - both totally retarded and make you look like an idiot.

I find playing 1.1 to be the best means of flaming it, same with UBP in GPP.

1.2 is mostly for dumbasses who blindly follow the misbelief that "a higher version number equals a strictly better product".

that has its reasons not related to what i've just said. also:

on a side note, there's been a recent decrease in my commitment to Tremulous.

The names you knew back in the day are pretty much all gone Diggs, unfortunately. Too bad, pretty unfortunate to see a good guy come back and get no recognition.

WELL, at the moment:
1.1 > GPP
Evidence: Look at the players and NÂș of servers.
(master.tremulous.net for 1.1, master.tremulous.net/list2 for gpp)

1.1 is only better if you prefer playing with/against noobs to playing with/against experienced players. This is true no matter how big a font you use.
But since you seem to think font size is important, I'll make this next bit bigger so you get how important it is:
Quantity is not quality.

Im not trying to "diss yaw skillz dawg", but ive played with you on 1.1 many times, and there are plenty of AA regulars who are better than you or at a similar skill level. So the  "playing with nubs" statement is void in relation to you. Yes there are more nubs than experienced players, but thats how it should be.

Heck, scratch that, you said "experienced" not "pro". There are "experienced" players in abundance.

1.1 has little to no people (relatively speaking) with enough interest in the version's future and survivability to keep it legitimately alive.

GPP has a pretty good bunch of people who acknowledge what steps could be taken to help the game out (the game's future lies in 1.2 and on, not 1.1), such as competition.

However, in my opinion, I'd say that 1.1's on a straight path to death, while GPP is on a path to "we did a few things to revive the game, but not nearly enough. Oh well, dead game." But we'll see.

Sure.

And after long time play on GPP i think that the game needs new game modes: DM(humans should have a slow regeneration of hp and ammo), poison zombie dretch(last survivor win after 30 seconds), Wave Rush(alternately for teams), HvsH(fun with nading and destruction enemy base  ) with build.
And all these modes are not difficult to implement in game without mods.

Also my attitude for Tremulous has spoiled by death Official EU server(good ping and players for me) and fatal large amount of spam-builders on CZ server.

But I think that all change with 1.2 release.
LibCurl(and large count of maps on webservers) may revive this 1.2 game.

Whoa, down boy! Why make this about me? I never said anything about my skills in that post, even if they've doubtlessly improved since the last time I played 1.1- what was that, 2 years ago? But anyway, why bring them up? How is it relevant to your argument? If this was a structured debate, I'd use the phrase "ad hominem", but I guess since this is a game forum, this sort of behavior is to be expected.

As i said before, i meant no offence, i was just pointing out how fallacious your "no experienced players in 1.1" statement was. And i used you as an example, as you are a common point of reference for both of us. Dont bring your fancypants latin here mr fancypants!

@Dracone, your just jealous of my 1.1 install. I know you love me, you always come back to 1.1 just to see me.

Yep. My senior year.

I actually started to play a little bit of trem again recently. I find GPP to be more fun, but there aren't very many people playing the game at all right now. GPP has only one server that gets any traffic on a regular basis. I think trem will get a boost in player population once 1.2 comes out, as the preview images I have seen are pretty cool. However, at the pace development is progressing, I couldn't even begin to venture a guess on when that would be.

The nearest possible release: In next year.
The farthest possible release: When 22nd millenium starts.
