Recently I contacted Desura to see if they would be adding Tremulous ,for Windows and Linux machines, to there site. was told
"The problem with this game is apparently parts of it are not open to
commercial use. Which is what Desura might be considered even though we
would give it away free. This is the same type of problem that a lot of
distributions run in to. Also I noticed on their forums they are having
licensing problems with the sounds that use. Until that is resolved we
would not be able to add it. They would need to clear their sound file
license issues and allow commercial use.
You may want to talk with the developers of Tremulous about these issues
and see if they can resolve them."
So I responded to see if when 1.2 is released with new sounds they would reconsider.
There response.....
"If the entire package graphics and sound are under the GPL or a similar
license that doesn't forbid commercial use then yes we would take a look
at it again."
Now I ask the Tremulous Community is this possible? if we could get Trem 1.2 on Desura, then we would be opening the door to alot of new players (alot of good ones!), this could help the tremulous community alot.
Desura is also rolling out Linux support very quickly, so there is another comminty that we can reach further into with Desura.
I would Like to ask the Tremulous Developers to consider this.
Thanks

The issue with cc nc-nd was resolved years ago. See Timbo's quote (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=12400.msg183334#msg183334) and a more formal restatement (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=7672.msg117073#msg117073). Furthermore, nc specifies "primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation" (wrt use of nc assets), which should not apply here (but ianal).
See the Tremulous Sound Licenses (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=13257.0) thread for info about the sound licenses issue.

they found a nice excuse to avoid a 5 years old dead game.

Ah yes thanks for reminding me of that! But I thinks this is what bothers them...

My initial post was wrong as I indicated that the quotes were by the same people, which they were not. Timbo's quote was from evillair (the nc-nd issue) and my quote was from ydnar (the shaderlab license). As the quotes make clear though, those issues no longer apply. The latest revision of the COPYING file (http://svn.icculus.org/tremulous/trunk/COPYING?view=markup) is the most accurate to date.

Good News! Desura has told me that they will reconsider when 1.2 has been released with proper sound licensing. Also I have got a Desura group authorized for Tremulous players, fans, and devlopers, here http://www.desura.com/groups/tremulous-players (http://www.desura.com/groups/tremulous-players) So if you would like to see Tremulous in Desura please join this group.

when 1.2 has been released
Lol.

Sadly, with such development speed and all, we are most likely not to get any release of 1.2. Gotta find a way I can help with the sounds...
