Title: tremulous needs aim down sites and ppc support
Post by: scream2night on October 30, 2011, 11:02:41 pm
think of it, CoD, Battlefield, they have aim down sites (ads) so why can't tremulous have it in 1.2 or even 1.3. It would make the guns more accurate,

also i know this would be impossible due to coding limits but it would be cool to choose between first person and 3rd person viewing modes

also when 1.2 is ported to mac, make it universal, not just intel. power pc macs could have worse graphics or something but don't get rid of the ppc crowd completely i have a ppc and I can sometimes get 90 fps on the [][][][][][][][]x server, I would be happy with 20 fps in 1.2

I know nothing of coding so I don't know how hard any of this could be, it was just a thought

Tremulous is not like all the other generic fps games. It is different. That's what makes it Tremulous.

zomg, 2 random, independent suggestions in one thread!

lol, that's the generic, retarded comment used to put off or avoid all kinds of intentions for improvements.
the answer is correctly phrased as: no, Tremulous does not need sites (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sites).

But answering like that is boring...

Slows down the gameplay. Quake + building + aliens = Tremulous. None of the earlier mentioned facts have iron sights. I doubt there will be any 1.3 release (as the development speed is about the same as light speed).

Both ideas can be implemented, using the iron sights of guns has been implemented in a Quake 3 mod named True Combat (which is dead now) but use the same engine as Tremulous. Third person view also has been implemented in some old and abondoned mods of Tremulous, but it gives more view for humans - looking behind corners and being able to see a bit more on the sides and back without the helmet.

What do you mean by these power PCs? Tremulous has always been an open source (well, not really :P) game and always supported PC, Linux and Mac. I absolutely don't understand your argument.

That's sad. We have extremely many people comming here saying "Ohai i have dis idea XYZ pl0x implement it cuz i now nothing of coding"

Not power PCs, PowerPC based computers, it's a processor architecture that used to be used in Macs until the switch, a few years back, to commodity intel hardware, he just wants a client binary for 1.2(GPP or just the eventual 1.2 release?) built for PPC, this is the most reasonable request in the thread, maybe an ioq3 dev with an obsolete mac could help out.

Its easy to add thirdperson in trem, just change a cvar in the qvm. I've already done that, but gpp's thirdperson is modified so the distance between player and camera stays the same. I think i like 1.1's thirdperson waaaay better. For many other reasons as well. Like the fact you see over your head, not at ur shoulder.

Ah, now I see (something)! Technically it could be a bit difficult due to needed engine changes (as Trem devs seem to not want to really change anything in the engine).

Difficult how, have they stopped maintaining the PPC version of ioq3 or something?

1.3
Back on topic...
The guns are already accurate enough.
It probably would be possible, because the Md allready has a zoom. They would just need to see if ADS = true then make gun accuracy this.
Trem doensn't need ADS. Just more people. Although I wish the game was on steam, but we had that conversation enough, had we?

Third person view can be allowed by default, because it is totally unplayable with it.

Not by default.
Also, if you enable the crosshair to stay there while in thirdperson (such as the very old ARCADE mod with relics from like 2006/7/8?) it is quite play-able. Actually, in the arcade mod and aussie/american p-bot server had thirdperson allowed. Its just not that fun though because pbot-you're versing bots with only one type of skill. With arcade - it died out because not many people lived in Australia/near wherever other server was. (I've never seen a "non-aussie/close to australia" server with arcade mod, unless i never payed attention to it)
