Title: Thanks to the Tremulous devs...
Post by: strongsad on August 12, 2006, 06:01:36 am
...for making a game that's dangerously fun!  I was supposed to wash dishes, fix stuff, ride my bike, and get to bed on time, but those things have been partly on hold while I figure out Tremulous tactics and strategy.  OTOH, I think Trem is good for me as a fun diversion.

I prefer to play an alien.  Some tactics I've discovered:

- The dretch's best defense is to run on walls.  If you see a dretch that looks like he's driving drunk while humans are firing at him, that just might be me.  Sometimes I scramble around on the roof of the human base for several minutes, just to taunt them.  On some maps it's very hard to hit a wild dretch, even with a lucifer cannon.

- A marauder can be hard for humans and even turrets to hit.  I'm not yet skilled enough as a marauder to use the advanced marauder's electrical charge effectively, so I usually dance around as a basic marauder.

- I'm having trouble figuring out how to be a powerful goon.  I can pounce, but I guess I don't swipe at the right time.  Maybe I'll figure that out.

- It's fun to be a tyrant, but if a lot of other players on the team are also tyrants, I try hard to avoid hitting them.  Sometimes I run into walls to stop myself from charging, so I don't hit a teammate.  It's terribly disappointing to get that message "you killed TEAMMATE x!"  Not that I want FF turned off.  FF ensures everyone aims.

- I'm getting better at being a human.  People complain about humans camping, but I just don't know how humans can rush out before stage 2 and stay alive.  With smart dretches, a helmet or battlesuit is essential.  I'd rather not feed the enemy.

- In the games I've played, it seems like humans generally reach stage 2 earlier than the aliens do, yet the aliens seem to end up winning more often than humans anyway.  Perhaps the humans underestimate the stage 3 aliens.

Anyway, that's where I am in this great game.  Hello everyone.

While i do like the presence of encouraging and insightful newbies I do recommend that you lower your daily sugar consumption by a good 60%

I suppose you're referring to the fast dretch tactics?  Dretches have to run fast.  Is there some other way to be effective as a dretch?  Other classes don't have to be so zippy, though.

Practice more, and you'll notice that all those problems dissappear.

If anything, he should UP his sugar intake. All the best players eat tonnes of the crap. There's no better way to get good fast than to fatten yourself up so much that you can't leave the computer to do anything else.

keep up the enthusiasm =) and yes, it IS a great game.

My brother Strong Bad is worried.  He says that while I am a lot less depressing lately (must be the game), my gray body will soon fill with sweets and expand like a balloon, filling every crevice of the room.  He's silly, if that happened, I wouldn't be able to reach the computer.  I'm sure Strong Mad would be more than happy to pop me anyway.

I played against Strong Bad once but his 486 lappy only does 0.1 fps.  As in, one frame every ten seconds.  I don't know how he ever got a point.

Read the thread about the topic.

I have no idea how to play humans, because Is all about teamwork, anyway a guy with helmet, batery and jet, is something that can kill a base, alone. Also a flame and plasma can do tons of damage.

TIP FOR GOON POUNCING:
You don't always have to swipe. pouncing straight into someone, hummie or alien, already does damage. Swiping after hitting them is just making sure they got a good chunk from their health.
 :P Lol pouncing is fun!

pounce pounce pounce hungry pounce pounce pounce Oh sorry teammate!
