Title: Dual Blasters
Post by: Ikalie on August 15, 2006, 05:07:21 am
I'm thinking of a new human weapon that upgrades the crappy little blaster. True, pros use it really well, but many other people, they run rather then use the blaster due to its low fire rate, and low speed, though the damage is ok for a backupweapon.

This may promote less camping for humans, knowing that they have a fairly decent backup weapon. (Though I doubt it)

There should be two weapon modes, With the left click, you fire, and with the right click you change fire modes. Default would be, fire one at a time, but clicking the right butten would have them fire together.

it isn't very feasible to make dual anything if it isn't a hitscan weapon, because with hitscan weapons you can quietly make both "projectiles" take the same path, with a weapon that has a slow moving projectile, that isn't an option, so you are left with the choices of making them hit to the left and right of the crosshairs (which makes dretches and eggs next to impossible to hit), or you can somehow try to magically guess where they should intersect, which doesn't sound like a great idea either.

the crappy little blaster.

You have obviously never chased Aliens with your blaster.

No, it's not needed.

The blaster is supposed to be crappy.  It's what you get for not keeping an eye on your ammo counter.

-exactly!

If anything should be a double weapon, we should give the rifle a lower RoF and less ammo, wich both can be upgraded by getting a second one. And even that - no thanks.

Nice idea though  :)

The blaster is the thing to no wast ammo on granger, you run as fast as them, and with sprint it's like the history of the turtle and the fox. (...okay?)

So, if dual blaster, granger will need dual spark.

Except when you're a builder, then you have no way to defend against anything more than one dretch (unless your opponent is an uber-noob).

If you are a builder and need to defend, then there is something very wrong with your team as that's their job!

builders have a great defence system, its called teammates.

also, grab the blaster a start fleeing to base whil shooting and all the aliens chase you thinking you have no ammo. then whip out your flame thrower and get easy kills :)

You know what?

Shut up.

Regular grangers ARE COMPLETELY UNABLE TO ATTACK.  And Adv. Granger spit does 4 damage.

And, human builders are still able to purchase armor, bsuits, and hand grenades, not to mention being able to sell the ckit and buy a real weapon, and then sell that and switch back to a ckit.

The problem is balance. The blaster is supposed to not be very strong, learn to use it and an average dretch won't be much of a problem.

Why? you planning on attacking with that little fatty? follow some good granger builders on spectate mode and you will see what they do..they dont attack, they build, and if they are being attacked by hummie, then as a last resort after hiding around corners and such, maybe they will spit from a ceiling but not exactly face to face combat. Soooo either learn to use the granger properly orrr dont build and stop bitching.

spitting from the ceiling is pointless, they can just shoot at you, a headbite on a human without a helmet on the other hand does 40 damage.

but surely, if you are trying to headbite a hummie with a granger, then you're going to get killed anyway...after one hit

i would expect it to be the same as the humans  and its spit would be the same as that pissy blaster?
how muck dmg does that do?

same for spiting from the walls, but unlike trying to spit at them, i have gotten a few kills with headbites, 1 was on a builder (the last human who made it past the tyrants that obliterated his base), 1 was on a n00b who had trouble hitting me with his rifle (i was bored), and one was when an injured human who had run out of ammo tried to blast me while i was eggspaming (that human was komseh btw). the only real use for granger spit is to get a jetpacker into the reach of your local neighborhood tyrant.

it sounds like a great idea to me. How about this, make to trajectories, one for each blaster. make them have a variable intersect point were the croshair  hits the wall. So the two lines always intersect at the point of contact, should nothing get in the way. That way they will hit

That sounds complicated to code.  I've never seen anything like it in any other game I have played.  But what I do know, is that the whole dual wield blaster seems mostly unnecessary at best, and unbalanced at worst.

The bugs don't even get anything cool in return, I might add.

And it would make it quite a bit easier for dual blaster wielders to kill dretches.  Two simultaneous blasts would kill a dretch, 3 would kill a regular granger, 5 would kill an Adv Granger.

Such a combination would also do 30 damage per second.

If you take reloading into account, this is more than the mass driver, and is only a few damage points short of the rifle.

So, just to repeat that, you are proposing something that does similar damage to the rifle, but with unlimited ammo and no reloads, with the main point being to equip builders.

And in the meantime, the regular granger still has no attack at all.

So, then, in conclusion...

How about not?

think of it as an upgrade that parallels the grangers evolution into advanced granger. (with the spore and extra health)

^that a very good point!

i second that idea but make the blaster weaker like 1 or 2 dmg and faster times between shots
Title: Dual Blasters
Post by: kozak6 on August 16, 2006, 09:03:27 am
No, it's a terrible point.

The granger spit already parallels the blaster, except it does 4 damage per second (or per blob, take you pick).

The extra health doesn't mean much, as it is only increased to 75.

I say yes, only if Blaster is changed to a hitscan weapon, and its damage reduced, and it's only sold in s2.

Everyone knows the dual Elites on Counterstrike kicks ass. Why not have something like it on Tremulous?

Do not weaken the blaster or else it would take even more time to kill eggs while saving ammo for the main weapon.

BTW : it takes 3 blaster hits to kill a Dretch, not two.

And in the meantime, the regular granger still has no attack at all.
However, the advanced granger has two attacks, and the adv builder still only has the one all humans have.

And the main reason builders wear armour is because sometimes teammates can't/won't protect them and they can't realy defend themselves, so they buy armour to survive long enough to run to some defense.

Great IdeA! Make it so that you have to purchase the blaster in S2, but it still acts like a secondary weapon. ie. you have to sell your blaster to get it and it takes the same slot as the blaster. That way its not free, so the issue of balance is lessened.

EDIT: It has to stay at the level of "goodness" of a secondary weapon. It should never be able to compete against any other weapon.

what about making it buyable at s3 and cost 400creds? but IMO the blaster is fine. any stronger and i would use it instead of a rifle.

for dual, you could have two crosshairs.
that would make it a bitch to use and only have inproved firepower vs large aliens.

also make granger spit better.

--OR--

just say the only time a ckit should be out of the base is during a move when he sould be protected.
