I thought these graphs stopped updating but I just realised that the first one definately looks different to 2 days ago

But how dead must a game/mod be before it's considered "dead"?
For example, Q2Gloom has 2 servers up, one mumintalo (or something like that) in germany, and OzQuake in australia. On average, there's a game every... uhh.... week. I would call this dead.

Another example is Q3 CPMA, and DeFRaG - The one of the most competitive Q3 mods, and is even highly more anti-newbie than tremulous is, but is doing just about as well since CPMA was actually somewhat famous as Q3's most popular mod at a certain time. DeFRaG on the other hand, is only currently doing better than CPMA simply because you don't need to play with people to have "fun." It's just time trial races essentially, like Bob's OC server, but more official. I think there are still DeFRaG tournaments going on with prizes being handed out but I'm not sure.

Another example is War§ow. Plays like CPMA, is greenlit on steam, has official tournements, but just as dead as CPMA is. Only that it's still held in gaming conventions in japan due to their popularity there still being dragged on. This game is supposed to be open-sourced but it has hardly any mods aside from visual/huds at all for some reason.

Q2Gloom games are either started using IRC or the facebook page. Apparently one is attempting to revive gloom in a new name called "Darkness" using the obselete (not as much as Q3) half life 2 engine.
The playerbase of these - CPMA is roughly slightly smaller than trem's. Australian games still goes on (unlike australian trem) but are all organised via IRC only.
DeFRaG - I wouldn't call it a playerbase, but a bunch of people randomly logging in and logging out.
War§ow's playerbase is like CPMA + DeFRaG mixed together, afterall they have implemented a DeFRaG-like mode anyway.
