Title: Trem storylines
Post by: Amtie on August 22, 2006, 03:46:54 pm
I was inspired by the stories made using the icons and also for the weird message in Transit: "Don't eat the salsa" is what i thought it said...

I was wondering if anyone could come up with some storylines for the aliens Vs humans somewhere. And also if anyone wants a co-op campaign in trem.

Of course, the campaigns can be user made or made by devs or both  :D

There are atleast two written stories.  One is on the About page, the other is here: http://tremulous.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1660

While co-op or sigle player scenarios would be fun, programming the AI to make humans and especially the aliens act not dumb would be... non-trivial.

Yes single player would be awesome.. so would bots.. get to work!

The story is this:
Humans build a base on some planet and camp in it while aliens attack it and eventually destroy it in S3... or some human/alien who is mentally retarded magically deconstructs some important part of the base and the other team wins.
They should make a movie!

bots would be hard to make well, but someone else could make toe story mode, either as a mod, or just a bunch of maps.

Some time ago i had an idea about a map, with story...
But the good mappers dont liked it I think and I can't create maps, so it seems to me that nobody will make it...

Maybe omni-bot will be ported for tremulous...
I tried Omni-bot for enemy-territory and it works very well.

I liked it, and also posted a few points. You should take a look at them. I don't have any mapping experience either :P

This sounds interesting, and like a hell of a lot of work.

Alien Arena also has a couple of single player campaigns.

The enemies are really stupid, and the maps feature a lot of uninspired room-corridor-room-corridor type stuff we've all seen a dozen times before.  This sort of thing really needs to be avoided.

Perhaps it might be easier to make an alien campaign.  Dretch stealth missions would be very cool.

Do not underestimate the difficulties in writing an AI for a game like Tremulous. It would require more of an RTS AI than a FPS AI, really.

Have fun writing it.

How about a campaign when both sides are players? Might avoid the AI bot problem, and also it would be a change. Also, why are there only a FEW maps with open area? E.g. Outside Pulse, bit of Karith, etc.

Big open areas slant gameplay toward the human team.

Aliens are mostly restricted to melee combat, whereas humans have weapons that can be used effectively at long range.

Based on True Story!  :D

You can always include boulders, trees (if it is set on Earth) or other objects aliens can hide behind. Maybe a half-destroyed building in the middle of the map or something like that where aliens can hide, might be a little shed to a large building with lots of floors.. but then the map would get big...

Someone get on my side! :P
