- Ninja Scroll

Can someone tell me why ninja scroll seems to make everyone's list? I saw it and I thought it was one of the most retarded movies ever... the stupid woman gets captured and raped every 30 seconds.. she never helps out.. it was annoying.
Quote from: "Ksempac"

- Full Metal Alchemist

... the ending was lame.. the whole second half of that series just seemed to loose focus.. once they had the stone.. it didn't really go anywhere else.
Quote from: "Ksempac"

- GITS SAC

liked GITS SAC A LOT!!. 2nd act was allright, but when they got to the episode where they basically said americans are stupid... it just all went down hill from here..

my list o goodness:
Jin Roh
Akira
FLCL
Robotech (macross)
Vampire Hunter D
Rojin Z
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (NOT Second act!)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (the ending was very bad, but the trip to the ending makes it on this list)

... not all that long.. there seemes to be a lot of crappy anime, blah anime, or anime that has a horrible ending.

EDIT:

Hentai is like cartoon porn... no.. anime is when you have a group of peopl e who take animation too seriously.

Great stuff from everyone.

I agree with some of those.

Personal faves of mind in no particular order

Samurai 7
Jin-Roh (Absolutely rocks, and it's no surprise I'm seeing it on so many of you guys lists)
GITS (movie + TV)
Boys Be (A very old anime but one of the most realistic romance ones I've had the pleasure of watching)
Anything (And I mean ANYTHING) by Makoto Shinkai (Hoshi no Koe, The Place Promised in our Early Days, and the upcoming 5cm per second)
Haibane Renmei
Honey and Clover (One of the rare shows where I just can't stop crying)
Kino's Travels

I'm sure there's more in my head but I can't think of any more *laughs*

Things I like bt wouldn't list as on my top 10 sort of list

- Full Metal Panic Fumoffu
- School Rumble season 1. Season 2 has been very "meh" so far.
- Ouran Host Club (Possibly *THE* anime of the season next to Suzumiya Haruhi, which I dislike)
- Utawarerumono (The song that you sang)
- Trinity Blood (although my Kinokuniya worker keeps trying to convince me that the novels are better, but hey if I can't read it....)

*laughs* I'm a self-confessed combined anime lover, game lover, computer semi-techie.

I have no life.

OTL :(

I never put FMA in my list O_o.
FMP isn t FMA

Akira

I like the books...the anime doesnt come even close to the quality of the books

Quote
Neon Genesis Evangelion (the ending was very bad, but the trip to the ending makes it on this list)

Aaaaaaaaaaargh...i was wondering who will be the first to speak about this one. I hate it...Shinji is probably the most retarded hero in anime history its like "no i wont pilot it, no i wont pilot Eva, no i wont pilot it, ok i will" and you know he will do it from the beginning. This lasts for 20 episodes. Its supposed to be "character grown-up", in order to pretend Evangelion is not only about action. If you want an anime with real psychology and believable characters go for Monster (although its absolutly not the same type of anime)
About the end...i cant stand a single minutes of the last 2 episodes of Evangelion who dont make sense at all (i love the guys on the Internet who pretend they ve found the hidden meaning of that and just say BS for 2 pages)

My anime favs:

AKIRA - common you wankers that didn't list it, you know it's a staple.

Guyver - not the live action crap.

They were 11 - Really screws with a persons head.

MD Geist - A nice mixture of sci fi and Fantasy

Vampire Hunter D - The original not the remake.

Princess Mononoke -Interesting story line.

Nausicca/WArriors of the Wind - Again an interesting storyline

Orion - It's old as the hills but again a great story.

Light Years - Old as the hills again and common it features a super giant brain that has to be killed in the past ;)

Dark: I think you just gave your age away with the number of raelly old titles on your list :P

Whoa can you link me to They were 11? Sounds interesting.

FMP = Full Metal Panic which is != to FMA = Full Metal Alchemist

I've had that one shoved down the throat of a clueless announcer at a anime con I've been to (don't even get me started on that one)

--

KSem:

I think my vote for "most annoying bastard hero ever" goes to another anime, but it was so bad it's been blocked from my mind in horror.

All I can remember about it is, the main hero is a complete dickweed jerk for almost the entire series. Something seems to niggle at ".hack//: legend of twilight bracelet" (The one with Kite as the main hero) but that does't seem to be it. Nor is it ".hack//roots" which I'm currently watching (although the main character's also a bit of a jerk... what is it with ,hack and jerks?) so it's prob. not .hack... I just can't remember what show it was.

heh yeah I saw some of them (Orion/Light Years) before I ever really got into Anime/manga/hentai but they stuck with me. Sadly both are from an age when you had beta machines so finding these movies in a playible format these days are near non existant. Pity too, Orion had this whole MAsters of the Universe/Star Wars vibe, gorey as all hell too :)

On the Akira bit, is this Akira the movie, with the weird mind powers, and the "bloat-guy."

I liked Akira, Nausicaa, and Princess Mononoke, umm, for series:

FLCL - the robot is cool!

Bleach - For those who dont know, it's gonna be airing on Adult Swim soon enough, the first 14 ep's are liscenced by VIZ, but you can get all the currently 94 episodes at http://www.bleachportal.net/

Dark:

They were 11 looks interesting (if terribly old) I think there waws another show recently that did something similar, but I can't remember the name.

Titles like those make me feel like they're samurai slasher flicks. :P

Dorme:

My turn. :P Aahhh I was wondering when someone was gonna bring up Naruto or Bleach. I used to like them, but now their filler episodes are just so freakin' boring (and badly drawn) that I've actually gone over and begun reading manga just to get my proper fix of the things. Thankfully, Naruto is finally getting back to the "main" arcs with episode 200. After a freakin year of fillers. OTL

-----

hmmm has anyone seen/heard of this show called Memories? (Not Memories Off, Memories)

It's a 3 part OVA done by some people, rather old too I believe. I think the first episode was aclled Brilliant Rose or something. That's one of my favorite episodes - Space junk collectors find a very old wreck and explore it, only to find that they're exploring the ghost graveyard of a famous singer, whose spirit lives on in the ship through her holographic powers (It's really quite creepy to walk down an illusioned normal hallway and then fall into a pit of water)

Yeah, I know the manga was probably better (I think all movies save maybe the Lord of the Rings trilogy botch the book version) but as the first 'true' japanese animation I ever saw it kinda stuck with me as a favourite.

The bloating section was kinda freaky....'Akiras' girlfriend gets crushed inside him almost instantly but his ganger buddy survives twice as long and manages to escape :P

Strange, most of the anime I've enjoyed are missing here. Anyway :

- Slayers. Who doesn't like Slayers? Be it the series, the OAV or the movies!
- Last Exile <= must see!
- Scrapped Princess. At least an anime series with 0 filler! Not a signle boring episode, except maybe the very last episodes which were of slightly lower quality than the rest.
- Full Metal Panic : Fumoffu

Actually, the case of Akira is special. Many manga are transformed into poor animes, mainly because of fillers. But they still keep the original story line, and if you get ride of all the fillers, and dont mind some slight modifications, you can still find the original book story in it.

But it isn t the case for Akira. The book and the anime has a completly different story : They have approximatly the same beginning but what happens next is completly different. The problem is, the film version doesnt have much sense.

I just say this to clarify our reaction. But dont worry i do understand the fact that as your first japanese animation, it has something special in it for you

Ya know, for some reason I HATED Scrapped Princess. The magic concept was a cool idea (technology based magic is always interesting) but I absolutely hated it. Soopy kun was the final nail in the coffin.

I actually haven't watched Slayers (even though I have their music and love much of it) strange, isn't it? Menchi goodness for me, anyone? :D

Aahhh that's right! The name of the episode was Magnetic Rose! Thanks Ksempac. :) Yes, that was a very nostalgic but very, very beautifully done show. Watching the astronaut get lost in the illusion was even better!!!

Dormedas: True, the bounto arc isn't as bad as some of the naruto stuff I've seen, but TELL ME that those 3 dolls are not just the dumbest things ever. At least give 'em back their bodies when they go to Soul Society damnit! And ep 94 is, hands down, possibly the WORST episode I've ever had to endure in ANY anime ever.

I mean..

Rukia "BIND!" *binds bounto*
Bounto "Ngghh!! damnit!" *is weakened*
Rukia (Who is beyond outclassed, and doesn't even have a sword) *Stares horrified at the bound lady and watches her break free*
Rukia + doll together *SCREAM*

-_-;;;;;

Hey, most series must have some for of comic relief somehow :)

In the Scrapped Princess case, it's probably the first anime in a fantasy world I've watched where the magic itself isn't the center of the story but just something of the day to day life. That in itself is good ;)

Bleach (only up to the part when the characters get out of the Soul Society. Then it gets really crappy)
Gundam Seed
Gundam Seed Destiny

and others are all mangas. Can I talk about mangas in here too? I think mangas are better than animes because if you are secretly watching anime, you could get caught more easily than reading. And people say reading is good :p

PS. If you don't like the bounto arc in Bleach, THEN READ THE MANGA OF BLEACH. It's completely different with even cooler characters! WOOT!
With Half-hallows and even Ichico becomes a hallow-controller where he can control his mask  :D . But I don't read it... my brother does. And I just peek sometimes and I like it.

Sure, manga's are fine too. :)

I read the Bleach and Naruto mangas specifically because I find the anime's to be a bit bleh in their filler arcs.

On that note, Aishiteru ze Baby and Honey and Clover have awesome mangas.

Actually... in general, mangas as a whole tend to do alot better when you read them then when they make the jump to anime. I have no clue why.

-Bleach (sometimes)

i love the gundam series... only problem there was the series i saw on cartoon network i believe "sd gundam" ?? little midgit sized gundams.. pretty gay except for teh little zaku's which were awsome... only saw 2 eps of that though... gundam seed and destiny were pretty cool.. some lovy dovy stuff and drama i didnt care for but battle scenes were cool and the soundtracks are frickin awsome...i listen to some of the tracks while i play trem.. the dubbing for them suck... seriously seems like they dont put any feeling at all into the voice acting... so i watch teh subbed ones instead...

gundam wing is a classic and there were other seiries that were good to..

as for others i havent had time to watch much else.. right now im on naruto and im still a few eps behind im on 196... anyone know what ep they up to?? well since college started i can use wireless while im there so more torrenting and more trem..

any good anime recommendations that have cool fighting and shit??

Yes that's right holy. Episode 200 is the start of the Kakashi arc, and that's from the manga's so we're gonna finally see Akatsuki start moving.

Unknown: Heh. Wish I could see more gundam. I watched the special OVA of the 1 year war that was shown recently (MS Igloo) and that just made me sad.

Also, dubs on a general whole are BAD for me. I'm not saying the people are, but I've always enjoyed the show when the thing is in Japanese for some reason. Some people don't, and to each his own. :)

SD Gundam was a cute offshoot.

Man i've been watching a lot lately. Started with Witch Hunter Robin which was pretty solid until the end where I felt the whole thing got rushed. It sort of drew it out for half of the series, then hit a nice pace with the story and the last few episodes just felt like rushwork and like they didn't really match the quality of the rest of the series. Still glad I bought it though, it was overall pretty good.

Blood: The last vampire, fabled for its amazing animation (i'll admit here and there the CG was so seemless (it was CG done to look like anime instead of some kind of strange computer/reality anime mashup stuff) it was one of the most awesome things ever), but the story was COMPLETELY HORRIBLE. Its the worst anime I own.

I am watching now texhnolyze(going pretty well), gunslingergirl(heard the animation was great but so far i'm not caring for the series) and Serial experiments Lain (.. its like the last few episodes of evangelion as a series.. not bad, but so far it isn't really solid). Anyone seen them all the way through?

I really like GITS kind of technology/net/robot/WHR stuffs.. if you have any recommendations they are more than welcome.
