Title: Playing trem in a maximized window ?
Post by: Farcon on September 01, 2006, 06:53:25 pm
Hi, when I run tremulous full screen I can't tab out of it (e.g. to read IM), faq says to use alt + enter. However then I have a window that I can't really position nice. I either have the windows bar at bottom, or right/left edges showing the window. Isn't there a way to open the game so the window automaticly maximizes or fullscreen and still be able to minimize the game ? or is that limitation of the quake engine ?

I play on linux and the same thing happens to me. And when I use alt-enter to tab out, and click in to get back in and alt-enter for fullscreen again, it seems to load the map again. o.o It happens on quake3, so its a bug in the quake3 source as well. Would be nice for a fix!

I agree with David...

As for the 'bug'... it is none. That is due to the vid_restart.

It can probably be considered a bug : I have no problems switching to and from fullscreen withouth any vid_restart on Linux.

There is a first for everything.
I have seen over 200 different boxes doing the vid_restart when switching, on this engine.

But then again I am no coder and I can't tell what's now a bug or not.
Still imho vid_restart is required after a switch, if only to get the gfx back into the required state to play.

start trem with startx /usr/local/bin/tremulous -- :1

then use ctrl alt F7 and F8 to switch.

you can switch between fullscreen and windowed without a vid_restart on linux using tjw's binary (i'm reasonably sure it does require vid_restart on the vanilla version). i regularly do this when i'm skipping a game and talking to someone on the server.

I'm using vanilla tremulous and it works perfectly for me.
