dont go mimicing natural rejection ..er selection i mean
keep the fraggin thing simple
take a good look at q2 gloom
and forget all about natural selection infact train your self to puke on just the thought of natural selection you'll do fine
-
dang i gotta look in to the past posts before saying stuff seems
gloomers already got a death grip on this up and coming dealie
-
Gloomers started this "dealie." Though it was going to be quite different from both natural selection and gloom.
-
yaaa wiff teh robot animal deelies.. that shouted fier and had viruses or sumthing....
heh
kinda more like gloom now... but different enough.
-
Old Trem was fleshed out extensively before work began; everything that was in there was for a logical, interesting reason. No, no fier was to be shouted, and yes, viruses were part of the scientific explination.

I wish this Trem to be more like GLoom then NS, but I wish more Trem has its own style.

ya know... I've still never played NS :-?
-
I played NS a couple times. Its a well done mod, but there was just something I didnt like about it :/

No need to start a MOD war here.
Plus, if they did that, they'd be out of ideas
j/k
Being an NS fan myself, I must admit myself that without NS alot of games(not just this one) wouldn't have been concieved to what they are today. Good luck with everything.
/me repeats first line

gah, you NS guys still don't get it do you? Tremulous is based off of Gloom. Gloom was the first type of mod that accually started this type of genre. Gloom was made more than 4 years ago, long before anyone had the idea for Natural Selection.
The only thing NS has done for us is give us a good laugh at all of you claiming you came up with an original idea and that we should get sued because of it.
Not to sound mean, but I hope you understand why I feel this way.

For what it's worth, I've never actually played Natural Selection. Half life under linux is a pain in the ass. Actually, forget the linux part.
Honestly I find these threads funny more than anything else, but I do have trouble understanding the mentality behind some of the posts I've read on various forums. Alien vs Human games are nothing new; AvP, Starcraft, Gloom, HL, Doom, Q2, Unreal etc. What is relatively new is the FPS/RTS genre of games. Technologically speaking this represents nothing groundbreaking -- it is the natural progression of gaming genres. Where NS differs is the resource system and commander mode features which have their roots firmly in RTS territory. Tremulous is quite dissimilar to NS here, but even if it weren't why would that be a problem? At the end of the day the result for the "mod consumer" is a wider variety of games to choose from -- apparently this is a bad thing. You can go round and round in circles for weeks identifying the origins of entity X from entity Y influenced by entity Z. The reality is that nothing in this world is truly original and if it were we wouldn't be making very much progress. Having said that Tremulous has nothing to do with NS, any similarities are coincidental. As already pointed out in this thread, the inspiration for Tremulous lies with Gloom more than any other game/mod and I'm happy to admit that. If NS was an influence I would say so too, but it quite simply isn't.
The people talking about legal action really need to be dragged down to earth. For a start, computer game modifications are not for profit -- there is nothing to be gained or lost financially before even considering legal costs. Secondly, you can't copyright an idea, only names, artwork, sounds etc. -- i.e. the actual tangible entities that make a product. Imagine if a car manufacturer claimed that legally no one else could make cars: there would be zero consumer choice and under developed automobiles to boot. Screaming "OMG OMG SUE TEHM THEY COPIUED NS!!11!!" only really serves to identify how utterly retarded you are.

Because i see a link to this post in NS. I'm gonna link to the original Gloom
Just because no one did.

Anybody remember this?

When Charlie Cleveland (Flayra) of NS wrote an article about Gloom and Counterstrike? This was when NS was just an abstract idea on a simple website.
There are a couple of people here that worked on the original Gloom and then worked on Tremulous, including me.
Regardless of that, what Timbo said rings true. You can't copyright gameplay. We could make a complete clone of Quake 3 and sell it if we changed the graphics, the words and the sounds.
