Someone said that Q4 was more geared towards single player games. (IE Doom3)
A magazine I read also said that Q4's Multiplayer didn't seem very different to Q3, (although they were talking about the interface more than anything else)
What's more [the] Quake 4 [demo] was unplayable if I didn't turn off lots of effects and reduce screen res, and I usually get more than 60fps with maxed out settings (except for AA) in Tremulous. If I really tried to fill the screen with polys in Transit it fell to ~25fps.

BTW, why does it [Tremulous] reload everytime I change my display settings?

When you want to change the display mode (screen resolution and/or color depth) the OpenGL must be reinitialized. Unfortunately uninitializing OpenGL means uninitializing everything that depends on the OpenGL interface - 3D data, textures, etc. So everything must be reloaded.
