For demos it's /record and /stoprecord
For AVIs it's /video and /stopvideo

I'd advise you to stick with /demo and /stopdemo unless you have the VERY LATEST BADDASS SUPERCOMPUTER.

When i use /video my game goes all laggy to about 5 fps and when i find and watch teh avi it is made of ONLY those 5 fps, but still at the usual speed! Meaning Super-fast forward! 0.0

Whoa! I could see this thread being very confusing due to the misuse of /demo in place of /record. If anyone is confused:

Code: [Select]
/demo demonamePlays a demo named demoname.
Code: [Select]
/stopdemoDoes not exist. You probably meant /stoprecord.
Code: [Select]
/record demonameRecords a demo named demoname (or demoXXXX.dm_69 where XXXX are some numbers).
Code: [Select]
/stoprecordStops recording a demo.

you can just go /record and the demo will be saved as "demo0000"

I use fraps.  Its a good little program that allows you to start and stop recording at the press of a button.  It also takes screenshots.  If you really like taking demos etc, then you have to get it.

Probably the best solution to making videos of gameplay is to first 'demo' it live, while its happening, then play back the demo with nice settings (AA and all that) but set timescale to .5 or lower, then reduce your recording framerate accordingly.  Although it doesnt work well with sounds...

Geez - I can't take this anymore...

Try typing Fraps into google (Ya think?)

Better yet, try (wait for it) www.fraps.com

Now that wasn't so hard now was it.  (Sorry for all the sarcasm.)

What it doesn't say is if tremulous itself or a derivative application is capable of:

Presumably none of these things are currently supported, but with open source they could be some day.

I think this stuff should all be put into a single locked sticky topic ( And i'm NOT talking about the FAQ!), so that we never have to listen to these questions again, and if we do, we can have the joy or shouting 'noob! look at stickies!' and such. Although I don't feel like we really _have_ to start shouting noob as soon as anyone overlooks something...

Agree, although I'm not sure why the FAQ shouldn't be the place.

The bitchers can continue to bitch, the explainers can continue to explain (even to lazy noobs), and the overmind can judge which is best.

I think this is a GOOD idea, if as Lava_Croft says, this question has been asked SOO many times that Lava can't either answer the question or make the sticky post himself then it should be sticky, or in the manual, the FAQ, or somewhere easly accessable. Oh and if it is a FAQ, then why not put it in the FAQ?

Foobicam, Thank you for spending the time to link to this post. The problem isn't in finding Demo related stuff, its in finding everything in one post. The answers to "how do you play.." are in different posts from "can you do... in a demo"

The thing is, why should I spend time on linking you to stuff you can easily find yourself, because you ask a question that has been asked and answered before. That makes you either lazy, devoid of initiative, or both.

Lava, if you weren't going to be of any help why did you spend the time to post a responce? If you are going to be abusive, or post derogatory responces then maybe it's time you have a holiday. Please note that I have not called you lazy or used any derogatory terms in reference to you. Why should you be disrepectful of me?

If you weren't going to be of any help why did you spend the time to post a responce in the first place?

I don't s'pose there's a (prefereably free) screen recorderfor mac is there? i'd love that :) also, is there a macintosh compatible version of fraps?
