An idea. Capture the flag on Tremulous mod?! :D
Shouldn't be too hard to make.
Who wants to give a go at trying to make a CTF Mod?
Just imagine... human entering alien base quietly, sneaking up flag.
General message: BOBBY has taken the ALIEN FLAG
Aliens roar around to find bobby standing with flag. Bob runs. bob get clawed. bob survives. bob enteres own base and...
General message: BOBBY has CAPTURED the ALIEN FLAG
Humans gain 1 point.
BOBBY was sniped by Loltrol's dragoon.

Just thinking about how to balance it makes my head hurt :P
It would be fun though. In fact, any new gamemode would probably be fun after all that time playing the same thing over and over :)

Dretch should probably be unable to carry the flag. Also, Mara is damn too hard to kill if it is fleeing, nobody wants to chase a Dragoon flag carrier and we shouldn't even talk about the Tyrant. It means I found an usage for the Adv Basilisk : only it and the regular Basilisk can carry the flag and so, the Adv form higher HP and health regen might make it a good thing to use :D
And for humans, only an human without battlesuit, battery pack or jet pack can carry the flag ( must keep the bagpack slot free ).
That should be a first stage to balance that somewhat.

Just add some time what you have to hold the flag, so you cant just pounce back to you own base, like you have to keep the flag for 1min so another team has a change to kill you (and timer doesnt run if you go near om)

There should be a platform (like the medstat or booster) that when you get on top you get labeled as "the flag holder". You will automatically evolve/upgrade to this model, and only a limited number of players can be the flag holder at a time.
Both team will have to protect their flag holders because they are the only ones that can steal and return flags.

The FH can be some kind of androids (that's the excuse for the extra hp), and will be only able to walk at a moderate speed (normal human speed)
The flag shouldn't be a flag though.. maybe something cooler like "shiny spheres thingys" or something :P

The whole idea is to make the team work together i guess, at least of course, you want the classic ctf action :)

Althoug there should be something like bs and jetpack humans can't carry the flag. Alien flag restrictions could be all but (adv)basilisk.
I also made small testmap that has buttons on both default bases. These buttons activate crusher (could be hurt trigger) that destroys all but the opposing team base.
So basicly each team try to press the button on each others base to kill that team instantly.

I think that as a MOD it would be a good idea.
I don't know if I would play such mode (it was fun in Q3 or UT, but Trem is a different game) so I voted "maby".

To encourage team play, whoever's carrying the flag shouldn't be able to attack. For this reason, I think only grangers on aliens can carry the flag, and only humans with no weapon can carry the flag. To make things more interesting, everyone has a radar, but only the ensign (flag bearer) shows up.
Contrary to Basilisco's idea, I think the flag should be really heavy and weigh the ensign down :-)

BS and Jets not holding is an O.K. plan.
Maybe add the Battpack?
But basilisk only alien able to hold flag? that's not good.
Tyrants & goons not able? that'll work.

I always did like CTF. If it could be balanced for Trem, that would be awesome.

Since the teams are really asymetric, it might be better to go for an asymetric CTF mode.
So maybe the game should be CTE ( captrue the egg ) where humans must infiltrate an alien base, steal some special egg and get it back to a specific point in the map.
If we did that the other way, I think that no matter which alien steals the flag, humans will have close to 0 chances of going after them to recapture it. On the other hand, humans going back to their base will often find aliens on the way ( aliens waiting around the human base, aliens waiting to regen in a safe place on the map, aliens that spawned at some remote egg etc... )

That would be tricky if it were a normal egg... you try taking it back to your base and a dretch spawns and bites your head off.

This would never work right.. aliens would win almost all of the time.. even with a heavy camping human team.. a lucky mara could just jump turrets and run off before anyone could do anything... and restricting who can hold the flag is a bad idea.

That's a very constructive argument : marauders will make aliens win all the games and we should not prevent marauders from taking the flag.

My idea which would make most logic would be this:
humans can use jetpacks and battlesuits, armor and helmets, all aliens can hold flag
thus mobility and armor issues are balanced, tyrants have lower def than bsuit but their hp is high, bsuit is the opposite, high defence, but same hp as always
jetpacks can fly, mauraders and goons can jump
drentches are fast, humans can sprint ( possible armor for feet which prevents light armor usage, but make human normal speed equal to drentch? )
for goons, when holding flag, they can still pounce, but not as an attack, kinda like if they swipe, it cancels out the pouncing dmg
tyrants can charge, but no damage is done either with flag
basically flag holder had no offencesive abilities, cause it wouldnt be fair to limit aliens to only a basa, while humans can use pulses and lucis with the flag, and the the basa is so weak, thats just way unbalanced.
so thats my idea for a balanced game

Actually i m rather against the fact that you could only have a slow capper. Yeah it s better for teamplay. But seriously, if you re a human with a pulse rifle/mass driver. There is a tyrant in front of you, and a little granger 10m away fleeing with the flag. You would have to be pretty dumb to not try to shoot the granger. Once granger is dead and flag is on the ground, you just need to avoid the tyrant once, take the flag and die. Even if you dont manage to catch the flag its ok, your teammate will come back later with a lucy and get rid of the tyrant.
So i fear that restrecting the classes would only allow one strategy : Dragoon/Tyrant Rush with a little basi behind...When every single human is dead, catch the flag and come back to your base surrounded by your bigger friends.
My solution is : Make Aliens+Humans team. That way, you would have a balanced game (both teams are the same) and you would be able to use all the abilities of all the classes/weapons. There would still be teamplay because you would have to defend the flag, and even to attack it would be hard (except maybe for marauders) to get past a Tyrant or a BS all by yourself.

Well, a simple solution ( although a little artificial ) would be to prevent all aliens except Granger and Basilisk from taking the flag in the human base, but to allow any alien from recovering a fallen flag. Obviously, you'd have to forbid the /kill commant for the flag carier too.
A mixed human/alien team could be very fun but still I doubt it'll solve the problem : mara/goon/tyrants are just too good at runing away. Putting aliens in the oposite team wouldn't change anything for that. And anyway, since UT I consider it normal to impose movement restrictions on the flag carrier ( in UT? the flag carrier cannot use the personal teleporter )

Yeah, I know. Still it's very fun playing a game of UT with people who never played that one before and watching them take the flag, teleport above the base wall and go back to their base without the flag. And then there's always the smart one who drops the telenode near it's own flag, grabs our flag and teleports ASAP. Usualy, they do it twice at most and then they stop :D

What about this one? run to enemy, leave teleport device RIGHT AT the flag, take the flag, run to own base, either lose or capture the flag, then telefrag themselves thinking NO ONE SAW THAT TELENODE xD
