Title: Local server
Post by: Kdvdk on September 18, 2006, 08:34:51 pm
Hi there, Tremulous players and server owners,

I am setting up a local Linux dedicated server from http://tjw.org/tremulous/.
It runs well and I can play well on my server with my Macintosh.
Nevertheless, when I try to access the server with my MSWindows XP PC, the server is not in the local server list.
Does any of you know how to repair this?Does MSWindows have a UDP firewall?
I killed MSWindows Firewall and McAfee Firewall.
I cannot access my server with my PC.
Please help me.

Thanks

(Two firewalls running on the same machine.  Hmm - Never a good thing.)

Can you connect to the server with the XP machine from the game console (accessed by using the ~ tilde) typing in the connect command and server IP address?

Just a hunch.
Is your Network setup correctly, or did XP use an APIPA-Address?

Better yet -

From a DOS window (command line), type ipconfig (and 'enter') and tell us what it says.  It will tell Caveman what he needs to know and give you and address to give to the 'connect' command.

When connecting to the server with the XP machine from the game console, I get the message:

Connecting to 172.16.16.1
Awaiting connection...1
Awaiting connection...2
Awaiting connection...3

Caveman, my Network connection works correctly. However, the LAN settings (TCP/IP) are
- Obtain an IP address automatically.
- Obtain DNS server address automatically.
- DHCP enabled.
When I fill in an IP address myself, I still cannot see the server in the server list.

The ipconfig results are:
Quote
C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.17.25
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.16.1

Edit: It worked once... I saw my server listed and when I rebooted my computer it was gone... :(

can you ping the server? (not in game, in a console)
and try ssh or anything else the server has installed.

My server is working!!! :D:D:D

Hey guys, I configured the Windows firewall and it said I had to fill in the IP number and the port number. I filled in the numbers everywhere I could. Now the Windows firewall is turned on but I can reach my own server.  :D

Now I have another problem: I can't be an Administrator when accessing the server form my XP machine. It says:

!setlevel Kevin 5
!setlevel: Kevin does not have a valid GUID

My GUID is XXXXX or something. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks!

Get tjw's backport from http://trem.tjw.org/backport/
