I thought about implementing restrictions due to different number of players on different servers. In my idea it could be like 2 points/10 (or whatever it is for alien race) sentience for every player on the opposite side + the basic points for 2 spawns and reactor / om. That would restrict a lil bit number of turrets in games with little number of players and allow humans to defend against a mass of manymany tyrants. What do you think?

Any server owner can do this, it is just no server owner wants to do it.

That's a great idea though. Give it like 4 bp per player, so an extra tube/turret per 2 players.
-
It might work in a limited fashion to scale a game up, ie. in a 3v3 humans can't build an impenetrable base because they have the BP of a full on 8v8, BUT the other extreme is also a possibility: SST games where you can build scores of defenses that makes it even more ridiculous than it already was.
There ought to be a cap, at least.

100 Build Points. Always.

I agree with Lava. Changing the build points is a false good idea.
Here is why : We all know SST...54 players, and a lot of BP. Some people likes it, others dont. Thats not the point. The point is we see some people who starts Trem in SST, stays in SST, learns to build in SST (with a huge amount of BP) and then one day they go to another server and try to build the way they did in SST. But they cant, because they got some bad habits with the high BP (such as turret/egg spamming, or building 2+ armories).
So modifying the BP for every game would only put chaos in construction, with the obligation to make new base layout for each situation and resulting in crappy base building most of the time
The current build point allow a quite good range of players around the estimated best which is 16 players (number of players for which the game was balanced, according to Timbo)

Good builders build well regardless of how many build points they have.
Crappy builders build horribly regardless of how many build points they have.

Seconded.
I remember someone running a server (I believe it was called Avalon, or something along those lines) that was modified so you'd get 1/4 of a buildpoint for each kill your team got, and 1/8 of a buildpoint for each kill the opposing team does. This ended up being only enough for an extra two turrets, or an extra tesla, or an extra telenode by the end of the game (or the equivalent of that for Aliens). It was actually pretty fun to play, and didn't really seem to be balance-breaking. It kinda added another level of team camaraderie, working to get that extra bit of defense for your base as well as working for the next stage. Also, it let you work towards something if you're already S3 (besides victory, that is).

that sounds nice, seffy, i would like that in allo servers. :p :)

It played out well, too. I just wish I could remember who was working on it.

I like the idea of having a way to get more build points
what about letting players buy build points for their team, say 1/2 build/sentient point for one evo point or equivalent credits. that would expand more on the idea of choosing a ballance with teamplay. that way there's also something to do with all the credits you would lose anyway once you hit the cap.

How about 2 evo points, or 300 credits, buy a build point.
Pay up at the reactor or overmind.
Also discourages people from putting reactor/OM in almost impossible to reach places.
