Title: Repair Effect.
Post by: Odin on September 24, 2006, 06:55:38 am
Maybe make the construction kit make a slight zapping effect when repairing structures? I always thought repairing seemed unfinished since there is no visual effect when you repair something. Also, make the structure you're repairing glow, or something to show that it's being repaired.

I think it'd be so incredibly easy, that I might try(and most definately fail) and do this myself. All you'd have to do is give the construction kit the lightning bolt effect from the tesla/adv mara, and just make it so that a shader is drawn on the structure you're repairing at the time.

There is a distinct visual effect when repairing a structure, apart from the sound already mentioned by Ksempac. Try looking at the animation, although very small, before saying there is no visual indication when reparing. The ckit makes a thrusting animation when repairing, making it very visible, at least to me.

That's not a visual effect.

That's boring, and it doesn't happen on the user's end. Basically, that sounds more like a bug than a feature, since it's making the character move back as if the ckit is shooting something.

Maby a chain of light, like the rotating light thingamajig in the barrel of the ckit could reach out and touch the structure.

Yeah, I'd like a good visual effect for ckit repair, and the current player animation is just the normal firing animation at a lower repetition rate.

Also, it's been mentioned before, but it'd be nice to be able to see the building's hp while you're repairing it. Sucks to have to stop and look up just to check. Maybe, when a ckit is equipped, the hp of the building you're pointing at is displayed as a small bar just under your crosshair?

I want to know who was the pervert who did that. That and the periodic hip thrusts the marines do. They are either really horny or just old and obsessive about their exercises.

Some sort of colored lightning emitted from the CKit would would.

Or maybe something could be done with that fancy-pants particle system.

Heh, no. Because then the ckit would be used to attack people with lag, while other players go in for the kill.

Actually, have it user-configurable.
Setting 1: Health-bar.
Setting 2: Health percentage.
Setting 3: Literal hitpoint("<current>/<max>") amount.
Setting 4: Health-bar and percentage.
Setting 5: Health-bar and hitpoint amount.
Setting 6: Health-bar with percentage+hitpoint amount.

Or even better, have all of them as true/false values:
Draw Health-bar: yes|no
Draw Hitpoints: yes|no
Draw Percentage: yes|no

It would be nice to have a visual effect, as long as it doesn't involve particles.

As far as the healthbar, would it be possible to display it on the ckits monitor?

Might be a tad intricate, but it would look great!
