North Korea has nukes, or at least an unconfirmed announcement from the AP and Korean govt officials:

Might we have a nuclear war? This would be very scary if we did so, i would know, i spent 11 years in Los Alamos, NM.

Let's be realistic : Nuclear weapon is a weapon in the sense that it deters people from attacking you (if you attack me, i will do so much damage to your country that it will be as painful for you as for me). But launching one would be actually more painful to you than to your opponent (because it is considered an abomination so all the others countries will side with him) unless you can destroy all the armies in the world in a single strike.
Will North Korea nuke Japan/South Korea ? Probably not.

Kim Jung Il just wants the US to give him back his drug money in the overseas accounts we froze ages ago. He thinks we will want to bargain with him if he has a nuke. He is crazy, but not stupid, he won't use it on anyone.

meh all i see this as is just one huge global popularity contest between countries craving attention. instead of waving their dicks around their waving warheads and missles and testing nukes.
all i know if for some reason they target the state of Rhode Island (smallest state in us) were f'd and would be wiped off the face of the USA. but y would they want to target such a small random state anyway??
but never say that they would most likely not use the nukes.. there are crazy people in the world. u never know. lets just hope this shit doesnt get out of hand. always too much shit going on in too many different places. sometimes its hard to keep up with it all :(

yes, let's say they have 10 nukes, none of which are a lot more powerful than the ones that were dropped in 1945 and they're not even able to get them to the us yet. That isn't an offensive arsenal, it's a defensive one and it tells anyone that wants to invade to better spread out them damn ships in the carriers groups and not build any large bases nearby.
Do you people forget that russia and the us have far more? 10 nukes won't bring about MAD since it'll go 10 ways at max and all the other nukes would be oneway north korea ones. And you don't blanket the country but you hit the concentrations of troops. It might be messy if it would ever happen but total destruction? not yet.

They can get them to America, no problem. Even if their missiles are still shitty, they could ship one into a port and blow it up, truck it up through Mexico, do something along the lines of "The Sum of All Fears," etc.

That is what they are aiming for yes. At least having the mention of a threat to America's home soil so that they won't attack N korea for the tiniest bit. But there's no real use in exporting a weapon to a nation you can't conquer or truly damage with one or even several nukes when it is far more efficient in the defense of your own. A terrorist organisation is far more likely to use that tactic than a country who has something which needs defending.

well my other thought is that we should just pwn north korea by

No, I read it was 4 tons in WEIGHT which means, no practical way to deploy on missle warheads. They would have to fly it over their target with a cargo plane. Plus, people are saying that it might not have even been a nuke, they might have just detonated a bunch of TNT to make us all think they did a nuke test.
And he is crazy, but he wants to continue his reign and control over his little peice of the world. If he provokes anyone into a military confrontation, he knows his days are numbered. Not only that, but even Russia and China are getting tired of their crap.
I have in-laws living in Incheon, S.Korea. Their biggest fear right now over there is that the U.S. will attack N.Korea and cause a war, but it looks like thats not going to happen. We will just block all naval traffic and stop them from making money.... or maybe send them threatening letters and Hans Blix.

The big thing is.. the world does not like this because they are fkin nuts in NK.. They might use this to bully people, they might leak it to iran.. which is also nuts and might want to go ahead and bomb some small country and trust god to stop MAD etc etc etc.. most of this speculation is because it is widely expected that someone DO something about it.. they won't talk.. so that doesn't leave many options. China is pissed, Japan has put them on lockdown.. maybe we can kill their program with economics (they don't have anything as it is).. but if we can't.. then if anyone.. i can see them doing somethign rash with a nuke if we(allies.. not the US alone for once.. because this is a world problem) have to invade.
MAD is fkin stupid.. THAT should worry you that we have to rely on it to be safe.. because if you are on the verge of beating a country with nukes with nothing left to loose.. they might not mind launching off a few at the last minute.

Lets compare the size of the countries

on the map it points out south korrea (sorry bouts that, best map i could find) if you look closley just abouve it you will see north korea, which is just about the same size as south korea
Now Lets Look over to the us
You see a majour diffirence in the size of the us and north korea, there would be a little bit of a problem trying to blow the U.S Off the map, not hard to blow north korea of the map....
Im just an australian teenager and dont take much notice of this kinda stuff, but im 100 percent sure that if war breaks out, autralia will be on the U.S side

However, the UN are trying to get countries to stand up to n. Korea. I don't think they will attack if the rest of the world is against them!

My opinion: Nukes are works the devil. Not that i believe there IS a devil.

The things i believe are the source of all evil?
Money, weapons (such as nukes), and Greed.
Greed being the largest factor since:
Money is only evil because is creates greed. it is worth too much; you can buy anything if you have enough of it!
Weapons? weapons are evil too. weapons can kill, scare, injure, terrify, maim, or worse. And how do you get weapons? with money. NO!
Thats not what i mean. I mean that without weapons, greed would not be feuled so, since the less possibility there is to BE greedy, the less greed there will be.
What has this got to do with weapons? Weapons are a possibility to take money.
either by killing, or threatening the victim into giving.
Now thats where the circle is round. But the circle is unstable, since if you take one factor away, somehow it will probably just get worse.

Now thats where laws and punishments step in. Laws are bassically to scare people from robbing, killing, and maiming each other. Punishments are to punish those who don't listen to the laws. hence they are called punishments.
And who should find and punish those who defy the laws?
Here come the cops. Cops began as friendly, helpful people in uniforms who usually hold firing arms for the protection of themselves, and the innocent.
This has gone disastrously wrong.
Policemen are no longer the help people they used to be. They think themselves boss over everyone and are as arrogant as hell.
They are believed to be doing crimes themselves more than any average guy. This rumour, to me, is not confirmed but it sounds quite possible.
Ever seen star trek? The people who made star trek were way ahead of even this time. The film itself, where they travel back in time to find the first encounter with the vulcan people. Remember that? "Some spaceship, how did you pay for all this?" Asks one of the people of history. "In our time our economy runs on different standards" comes the reply. No hassle with the money, just making sure the inhabitants of earth have a good life, and making sure the research gets feuled well. with what? with money? NO! with all the supplies they need!
Darnit. Weapons don't do good to this world. create one, show people you have one with the words:"Now I can protect myself!" then everyone needs one. To protect themselves. Take ones weapons away and he is vulnerable. take EVERYONES weapons away and we will be one step closer to world peace. My view of this world. My one dream i have is a long, long story.
No money to speak of. No thing as a weapon ever heard of. No anger, no greed, Just helpfulness and happiness. And possibly some sadness and upset here and there, but those are basic emotions wich cannot die. Anger can. Greed can. Jealousy can. And only once all those are gone, my true dream will be true. But knowing this is impossible with so many angry, arrogant and jealous people amongs many decent others. The reason the decent people are so hard to find is because they harden themselves. They get attacked with anger and jealousy and must fight back. They fight back with anger and hate. That's what goes the wrong way. The only right way would be the way of the warrior. and only those who KNOW the way of the warrior know that it is right. the rest of the people on earth usually don't even know of its existence.

(btw.. NK is working on being able to nuke california.. i don't know about you or how you feel about california.. but that should worry you.. they don't need to nuke the whole U.S. to kill a ton of people).

Heh. thanks holyknight :) but.. to who? The trem forums are honestly th only forum with enough ppl i honestly think worthy of this information. That includes you, and most (if not all) of the trem devs and Mod team. Having just read your long post (previously I've not been able to scrounge up the spare consentration), I believe we have similair views. True communism, or socialism, would be nice. I think it would be possible to arrange things in a way which worked, and allowed for advancement.
But I am very doubtful that humans will achieve anything like I hope for in the near future; I suspect it will take hundreds, thousands, of years. If we ever manage it.

Human nature, being the way it is, inherently prevents a true communism from working. Mixed socialism, however, is probably the safest way to go as far as an economy is concerned.

If so, I thnk I agree wit hyou a bit. Things like health care, education, public transport, core public communication stuff (like phone lines), should be publicly owned for the benifit of the public (and they would be able to be run at a loss [or with little profit], which means they could be much cheaper for the end-user).

The problem with North Korea is that they're like most minor wannabe states, they act all tough but when the shit hits the fan they'll just collapse like a deck of cards.
