Ok, seeing how nearly all the guys who post here do the same mistakes over and over i m gonna explain some basic rules to advertise your clan.
First the most important thing for people to know, is your timezone and the servers you play on. You cant play with people who are at the opposite side of the Earth because of ping issues. So telling people where you live and which are the servers you can access with a low ping allow them to determine whether they can join you or not.
Second, explain what is the goal of your clan and who you are looking for. For example you may want to create a clan just to have some fun with friends. Or a clan to be able to participate in clanmatches from time to time in case you re bored. Or you may want to create the ultimate uber clan which will train 2H per day and win a deatchmatch every week. Every goal you may come with is fine, but explain it in your post so that people will know if your clan is the kind of clan they are looking for.
Important Note : If you are looking for skilled members because you want to create a clan which aims to be the best, you must show that you are worthy of leading such a clan. Many newbies or unknown people came here to create a clan with skilled members, but to attract skilled people, you must show your skills first.
Third, dont post your email on this forum. We know there are some spambots who crawl this forum for email addresses. If someone is interested in joining your clan, he can simply send you a pm through the forum, and then you will be able to tell him all the sensitive informations
Fourth is a more general advice. We ve got a lot of guys who post here and hope that someone will join them. But the number of players who are interested in joining a clan is limited. So you will have to show how serious and dedicated you are in order for your clan to be more attractive than the others...For example creating a banner, a forum, an IRC channel and/or a website are basics that will show that at least you are making a real attempt to get this thing to work. Of course, if you own a server its even better...but not everyone can afford it ;)
Template for your clan presentation (not a standard, but a good way to apply the advice in this post) :
Nickname ingame : (Important since your nick on the forum and ingame may be different)
Timezone :
I usually play on :
Name of the clan :
Tag of the clan :
This clan will be a clan for ... (state the goal of your clan)
For this i need people ... (state which kind of people you are looking for)
(Insert other important things such as "i already have a website" here)
P.S : Comments on this post are welcome. If i forgot anything about how to advertise a clan, pls let me know

...good advice :D
-
You forgot the part where they sign up for TremLeague..
:)

I agree with most of these points. Except for tremleague, from prior experience any sort of method trying organize a clan league for a small community based game doesn't work out (see Gloom All Star and clones thereof). If you can actually get off the ground and prove me wrong, more power to you, just don't expect a lot.
-
 I can't sticky as it would seem.. or I would.
Some additional tips:
+ Look and see if your clan already exists. Most of the time its not worth trying to compete for members with an identical clan.
+ If you want to start a l33t clan you'd better have skill yourself and had better already have another really skilled player starting it with you. Most skilled players get sucked up quick anyway if they WANT to be in a clan anyway. You're going to have to have some pretty strong motivation for them to join you.
+ Think about what you're doing and if you even really need a clan. If you want a social group, talk on the forums, play on some servers regularly and go to the IRC chan.. chances are you don't need to start a clan for it. It takes organization and people expecting things from you, its not a cakewalk for the clan leader.

it's certainly some good advice, great that someone went to the effort of writing such a post... but you'll always have little clans popping up here and there then disappearing after a week or so.
-
thanks dude this will help big time when me and my friend make our clan official
-
He's long gone.
-
Just make a clan at http://clans.tremulous.net/
-
I would suggest putting the clans nationality in the thead title.
For example, my clan would be "anarchyVengeance [AUS]".

What, fail? :P
Yeah, this would make it alot easier for people to see if a clan is near then w/ out having to actually go into the post.
