When you press the evolve button, and the menu comes up, instead of having to click on the alien you want, assign a number to each species.
So if I press Q then 1 it would open the evolve menu then select dretch (if I was granger)
1 = dretch
2 = basalisk
3 = adv basalisk
4 = marauder
5 = adv marauder
6 = dragoon
7 = adv dragoon
8 = tyrant
As players learn these numbers they'll be able to select an evolution very quickly, even mid air while jumping <_< if they feel like it (lol, dretch drop off roof... tyrant lands on someone hahah. Maybe disable midair evolves if they're possible)
Same for the human armory. Except I think you'd have to use letters too since theres so much stuff in there :/
Edit, for human armory, maybe sub menus. (Weapons/Items or something)
And also, buying ammo should get ammo for everything you've got, not just whatever you have selected.

You can script this.

But scripting it would be messy and hard for noobs.

you know, this is one of the best ideas i've seen on the forums in a very long time. (this is coming from someone who has the whole thing scripted)

There's an auto-exec file on the forums that is commented to make it easy to set essentially any setting in Tremulous, and also includes gun, construction, and quick evolve binds. Maybe it should be included with the official releases with a note to encourage newbies to alter it to their needs.

Somewhat incomplete, but a good starting point:

I think he's aware of what can be scripted, but he wants default keys to be assigned. If so, I agree with him. I currently have alien evos assigned to number keys in my abind.h and human weapons on the same keys in hbind.h. Then I have the o key set to load abind and join the aliens, and p to load hbind and join hummies. Works well.

um, i agree with him as well

Agreed.
