Here is the breakdown in my opinion why aliens are NOT balanced:
1) Aliens move way too fast to effectivly track and shoot down
2) Their attacks are too damaging, using a medpack (what ever its proper name is, you get my point) takes too long to heal by the time the alien is coming in for the next attack (which usually finishes you.)
3) Projectile delay for human weapons is frustrating. Realistically, it does not take half a second at point blank range for the bullet to reach its target. I might understand a small delay when shooting far away, but not this close. Energy weapons can keep this delay, makes more sense. (I dont know physics, but this seems right to me :-P)
I guess thats all. Despite these setbacks, I enjoy this game very much, keep it up! :)

Thats not delay , its because you lag . . . . . .
-
Just reading you tell me you re a new player who isn t very skilled yet.
1- Learn how to aim.
2-Instead of taking every single attack, you could actually dodge them to give your pack time to do its job.
So before complaining that the game isnt balanced just because YOU cant kill an alien isn t the good thing to do. Play more, get some skills, and then if you really think there is a problem come here to discuss about it
-
WHO THE FUCK CARES?????

WHO THE FUCK CARES?????
Couldn't have said it any better.

this could not be more true, after a couple days playing with unlagged, things seem much more balanced (before the aliens learned to not lead humans, we actually had people complain that humans were overpowered s1)
-
Replace the Lucifer Cannon with a proper RPG!
Not all of this pansy "energy weapon" stuff.
-
No game is unbalanced to a skilled player... you may argue that it shouldn't require skill to balance.... but then i say to you
WHO THE FUCK CARES?????
-
Great, another n00b coming in to bitch about the balance, in their first post.
Trem is balanced, each discussion like this ends in it. Alien team requires more skill, good players go to alien. N00bs go to human, because it is the tried and true fps.
Humans camp
Aliens wait till s3
Mow down crappy human defenses.
Aliens win.
Simply this.
Get good at the game, dont camp, and attack more, aliens will loose a fair number of times.
-
dogding aliens are easy. Kind of...
I dodged a lot as I shoot them, especially goons. And I go BOOM BOOM BOOM and they go RAWR RAWR RAWR and later, either one of us dies. Or both of us dies, or none of us dies
-
1. Learn to aim.
2. Learn to dodge.
3. The bullets in Tremulous are actually MUCH faster than they are in real life. Your problem is lag.
Henners, do you have anything to add?

Think about it:
~All humans have 100hp no matter what they are wearing.
~Aliens range from 25-400 but still have the same hit ratios as any other alien (IE 1 rifle round to dretch=5hp, 1 rifle round to tyrant=5hp)
~1 tyrant slash does around 31-35 damage to a bsuited human, thus why it take 3 slashes to kill a full hp one.
~on the other hand, 1 fully charged lucy shot does 256 damage(i may be a bit off) which is more then enough to kill any goon in one well aimed hit.
~pulse rifles - dont even get me started, <100 pulses does 900+ damage. is that fair?
~rifles - 1clip = 150 damage, regardless of type of alien. changes because of health regeneration.
~chaingun - a smart tyrant knows that a chainguned bsuit does not take out a tyrant every time. at close range, a tyrant will still have 150+ hp after killing it.
~lasgun - Sucks agains anything but dretches and basilisks... for the most part
~dretches - can do 96 damage max per headshot, making it 2nd strongest s1 alien
~reg goons- kill unarmored humans in 1 pounce
~adv marauders - kills unarmored human in 1 zap, 2 swipes
~lisks(any) - kills unarmored with 2 leg swipes and 1 headshot.
im not done with this yet. i shall return
-
hey! Lasgun is good! I killed a tyrant with it in 1v1 (don't know if it was hurt or not, but hey, at least I killed it! And it took pretty long to kill it too, so it must had have some big health)
and what about shotgun? 4 shots to goon and its dead. One shot could kill at most 8 dretches (not likely though, I only killed at most 2) at once if they are together.

Bah, those graphs are meaningless because they do not give us the correct information.

I really wish people would stop doing this. If you've got an objection, state what your objection is. Otherwise, it is considered spamming (IMHO, anyway)
-
It all depends on skill...if you suck..ofcourse its unbalanced >.<

No name calling please. He said that if people have objections, they should state so in plain text instead of always linking to a annoying flash animation that makes me go through several layers of operations to display properly.
-
No he didnt stof, dont defend the indefensible, it only makes you appear more foolish than you in fact are. It is quite clear he didnt realise it was a link
-
Maybe he didn't say that, but I do. Objections were fun for a time, but now it is annoying.
And I do not lie about the flash : I do not have flash on my main browser to avoid annoying ads, and also because flash doesn't work on a 64bit browser anyway. So each time I have to read such "argument", I have to fire up an alternative browser just to display it.
-

uhhh dont think so bro, from what ive heard, a shotgun does 56 damage total, thus being why you can kill a goon at close range. you might be able to get 2 dretches with 1 shot. that is, they all being full health. if all 8 had <5 health. then mabey.

At first it was neat. .then it was annoying... now its only annoying when its not an official henners objection.
.. its funny.. because I run 64bit flash sometimes... most of the time i'm running FIREFOX though.. which will run flash anytime once you have it installed.. why you feel compelled to run a 64 bit browser for in the first place is strange.. and oh.. what is this.. a plugin for firefox to disable flash ads? OH WOWZ! If you want to cripple your internet experience by throwing all flash in your bad apple bucket then go ahead, but don't complain when people use flash. Its your choice.
LONG LIVE THE OBJECTION!

Well, that's easy :
- I don't use Firefox, I use the much superior Konqueror instead :)
- I use a 64bit distro and let me tell you it's hell to install a 32bit Konqueror on top of it. The 32bit Firefox was easy and I didn't have to install twice all the KDE libs to do that.
- I'm rather happy to throw away all Flash until I detect something worth the hassle of launching Firefox. Let me also say that sites worth the hassle are so uncommon it doesn't bother me too much doing it. If it weren't for the stupid Objections here of course which are far too common and nearly always of zero value in a serious thread.

you know, you don't really have to read the objection
-
You should Firefox/Konqueror/Opera/IE to back to topic m'kay?
-
Hasn't the topic always been browsers/flash/objections?.....
Either way.. it would maybe take the guy 10 seconds to just have it spit out the text over the image without flash for the flash impaired :/

Not all of this pansy "energy weapon" stuff.
Interesting. Do we use energy weapons becuase a RPG would faster and more familiar to us, making more deadly and a huge advantage for the humans? I think so.

Correction:
If aliens get S3, they win.
Tyrants kill most humans in 1/2 hits, bsuits take 3.
Not to mention they pwn turrets and teslas in 1-2 hits.
But humans can usually win, as long as they beat aliens before S3( hell, SD makes the game impossible for most human bases, simply because tyrants can work their way through the defences without fear of them being rebuilt)
-
Luci takes down hives/tubes in one hit, and one full hit and one secondary blast takes down an egg.
Tyrants take 2 hits on turrets, and a whopping 3 to kill a telenode.
The game is balanced, if anything, leans towards humans.
-
I disagree. EDIT: Not with Paradox, with the other guy.
Two luci blasts kill a tyrant. It's not that hard to accomplish, really, if you use the luci like it's intended (short-range weapon). Also, a chaingun tears a tyrant apart if the battlesuit is dancing correctly. Pulses, chainguns, and lucis also make fairly quick work out of adv. goons. As long as you don't have naked riflemen running around feeding the tyrants so they can get tyrant again each time they die, aliens can be kept under control quite easily.
I don't know why everyone complains that it's harder to win as humans. I always thought it was easier. That's why I play aliens: for the challenge.
SD definitely makes the game hard on humans. I'd like to see it hinder aliens just as much as it does humans, but it just really doesn't.
-
Quick question:
Why does charging it until it overheats hurt less than charging it to optimum and shoot at your feet?
Why not make it strong enough to kill a Battlesuit with 100 health, as well as splash damage?
Watching noobs blow up and team-kill at the same time would be priceless.
Ok, my question isn't that quick.
-
Maby have the luci blast have cool particle effects when it explodes. Like have the casing on the gun crack, and have light rays shine out, and the case start to bulge, and then, BOOM! If the player had a battlesuit, they would loose some health, but not have a luci anymore.
The explosion could be like the explosions in mechassult when a mech dies.

First, a quick disclaimer. I'm not at all trying to brag, but this board seems to discredit your opinion if you have a low post count.
I've played for 6 months, choose auto-select everytime, equally skilled with humans and aliens. I was in STK, won our clan match against SGA, get top scores repeatedly. Look for me on Beer Garden, Yaknet or SST if you doubt any of this. So please, please, PLEASE don't tell me stupid things such as "Aim" or "Dodge"
Next, to sum up my view on balance: Skill is easier to achieve than teamwork.
As several of you have said in this thread alone, aliens take more skill. Humans are your standard FPS. Couldn't agree more...however, with that greater skill comes a much deadlier package - a stand-alone package.
Aliens can be deadly anywhere on the map, by themselves. Humans can be deadly close to their base if in great numbers.
I could extrapalate...s1 goons own anything the humans have, their s1 advantage gives s2 humans too small a time-frame to win the game before s3 comes rushing back in with alien superiority. SD? Well, the aliens have two bases, one surrounding the human base and one not-needed base back where the eggs are. Rarely are those luci's anywhere close to a hive or an egg. Human's can't get through waves of aliens with enough ammo to do any damage, anyway. But you've all heard that before. Recently, by me. I have a couple threads in the general discussion forum.
But besides that, just ask yourself the question - Which is in more abundance? Skilled players, or players that can work together and function as a team?

I hate everyone on SST, except you. Next time I'm on, I'll make love your butt.

That's all bunk.
I play humans and aliens. But I play aliens more because its less TK'ing going on. I can solo an alien base and clear out aliens as Human, just like I can solo as an Alien.
There are plenty of human players that can single handedly crack an alien base and motivate their team. As a human, grab a luci and let the AOE kill small aliens, you can scare away most big aliens, take shots at structures until they fall or you have to reload.
As an alien, you can never have the 'right' form. Adv goons can snipe but they get killed easy. Tyrants can kill players but have to hit and run on defenses (which leave you open to counter attacks while you regen). Adv Maras just don't have the hitpoints to chip away at defenses before they get rebuilt or repaired.
My major problem as a human is that I can go and start chipping away at a alien base and establish a good route to get to without resistance. But always get TK'd coming or leaving the human base. Always.
As for the stage comparisions....I know Aliens have the advantage at S1. But at S2, humans get the armor and weapons to mess aliens up. It always seems like 'Oh aliens are so much better' but it is a huge learnering curve to killing S2 humans. Its totally harder and I've lost more evo points to pulse rifles and helmets than I have battlesuits.
If anything, Battlesuits make humans too cocky and they are easier to kill (bigger targets, poor weapon selection or experience). S2 humans with pulse lasers, helmets, and light armor are major skill check for aliens until S3. At S3, aliens go Tyrant and humans leave the pulse lasers and helmets for a battlesuit and mostly chaingun or luci. I think that weapon combination is a lot easier to manage than pulse laser and a smaller human in basic armor.
