Title: What to do about cheaters?
Post by: Smokey on October 29, 2006, 04:10:16 pm: Well, due to the recent finding of puma cheating, what shall be done about cheaters? I know for one that he will be banned from tremleague.

I think that all server admins should ban his ip, and maybe we could get a global ban list setup for tremulous.

Puma - You yourself said you expected the objections so you knew it was an issue when you used it, yet you take our time and your effort to try and defend an exploit that was clearly stated earlier to be considered a cheat. You like to post childish pictures of Lava, but he made it VERY clear this was not acceptable as a server admin. Yet now you take issue with it. Get a clue.

Just because it is "Open Source" doesn't mean you can do what ever you want to the code to give an advantage.

I normally try to stay out of this crap, but you asked for it, you got it and now you are behaving like a child.

no, one server admin considers it cheating. the fact that the game is open source has nothing to do with these huds, and he didn't circumvent cheat protection in any way, he just changed the value of one variable that isn't cheat protected, and since it hasn't been made cheat protected in svn all this time, i'm going to assume it's staying that way.

and why not? if that was considered cheating, that would make buyscripts cheating, evo scripts, say scripts, r_gamma, even changing the resolution and other quality related settings would be cheating (since it provides you with a similar advantage to crosshairs)

Why not stick to the absolutely necessary bugfixes provided in tjw's coding, and then patiently wait for the next version of Tremulous, and hope that they added the crosshairs you desire. Bleh.

Ok ive been talking to admins and players..around the servers..about 10 percent of admins and players give a **** about crosshairs..the others..are like timbo....plus..as ive stated before...get over it...i myself dont use a crosshair.( dont need 1) but my friends do..and i dont care... plus..can people STOP WHINING ABOUT ABOUT CROSSHAIRS.....
