Hi all,
I enojoy tremulous so much I chose to set up a server.
I uploaded some maps I encountered during my long nights of gaming, but the download speed is really slow: 3K/s
I've seen the same thing with other servers, and it's just annoying.
My server can handle quite a bit of data traffic, so I'm trying to increase the download speed.
et sv_minrate 50000
set sv_maxrate 25000000
set sv_dl_maxRate 25000000
(ok, I just added zeroes rather than picking a sane number)
However, this isn't working at all, download speed is still 3K/s
What other config directives can I try?
TIA, J

set up www download for the maps, im annoyed as HELL because NOBODY cares to set it up :(
i simply change server if i see <10KB speed while dling map

Good idea, altough I like it better when the server pushes out the maps :)
But... it doesn't work
set sv_wwwDownload "1"
set sv_wwwBaseURL "http://trem.nuada.be/maps"
set sv_wwwCheckPath ""
set sv_wwwDLDisconnected "0"
set sv_wwwFallbackURL ""
I see no attempt to get the file in the webserver logs.

with that baseurl, you will need to put your maps in http://trem.nuada.be/maps/base/
also, you will need tjw's latest client for http downloads to work (and tjw's latest server, but i really hope you had that already)

Thanks, that made it work :) Full speed downloads for everyone ;)
Now off to select some really good maps...

not quite, there are people who haven't gotten tjw's client yet, and they will be stuck with the really crappy downloads, but they deserve it for not getting tjw's client.

I would have got it if installing it wasn't such a pain in the…

what? tjw client? like wget ONE FILE is too much for you?
or following a readme to install game.qvm?

I was referring to messing around in the terminal and stuff.

Which isn't a pain in the neck.

I can install TJW's client fine, but I get extremely low fps using it, especially at human base. 10fps and lower. :(
-
That's impossible, and this topic is pointless.
-
Actually, on my one computer I never got over 20fps with tjw's binary. I got svn revision 755, applied tjw's, compiled, and got 90fps. Go figure.
-
does tjw's patch anything to do with fps
-
I get the same FPS with TJW's binary.
I don't know the depth of his changes, but I assume he's not rewriting the Q3 engine...
I made tjw's binary available on http://t.v5.be for url shortness sake. I put it in the motd of the server, so it's their own fault if they don't have the client 8)

Most of the rendering changes are code search&replace or additional conditions (sdl_video? edianness? etc.). But I think all of those changes are in SVN, so it would be useful to know where the problem lies and if it's a real issue. (If someone else is having frame rate issues and wants to try my x86 Linux binary, tell me a good site I can upload random junk to.)
My problem with frame rate, while real, was not a "real issue" since it was "solved" without any programmatic work.
By the way, Firefox can't find the server at t.v5.be.
