I find it almost impossible that someone could hit me so well. Especially as a dretch, at long range. is it possible that some people are cheating? .
-
both lc and j' have perfect aim. not aimbots. just to spread the word.
-
people complain sometimes i have too good of aim but then again ive been playing since stand alone release anyone ever think that i just had a long time to master my aim with dretches and how they move??
geez

demo? server? name?
put up or shut up

OMFG WTF HAX!!1!
-
Just spec them and see if the movements make any sense, but really, I watch people accuse St. Anger or Cymru Pride every damn day and they're always wrong. It's just 15-year-old newbs getting owned by folks that've been playing FPSs since the beginning of FPSs.
Plus if they're good with alien too, it's not an aimbot. :)

^^^Yeah, that.
I especially love claims of aimbotting aliens :D .

Trust me, your not alone. I usually use two weapons: rifle and lasgun. I am so rediculously accurate with the lasgun its not funny the amount of times I get called a hax. The lasgun is better for sniping than the mass driver.

Long range are the easy shots, it when they get close you need to aim good.
-
tremulous is completely safe now you can go to your homes

...and Katana

rofl... :D Thank god im admin. !mute cheaterwhiner

I've gotten some ridiculous kills with the MD once I've gotten warmed up. Shot 17 dretches with it in a row all very close together time wise (seconds) before in a rather broad hall and still haven't been accused of having an aimbot.. :(

you're sad that you haven't been accused of aimbotting? oh well, whatever makes you happy. ZOMG PIE AIMBOTS!!1one! h4x
-
Thanks kev :D.. that sort of cheered me up even though I know you didn't really mean it :(..
-
^^ aimbots have no place in }MG{ :D
-
Still, you all slam the cheater whiner, but you know this game is based on the q3 engine, and is opensource AND there are a few known good aimbots in the wild for q3. Its only a matter of time before somebody hacks an old ogl aimbot into their client.

katana isnt nearly as good as either of them. or k13lpto. or bloody. or cata. or me :D :D
-
If any human had "perfect aim" it would be noticeable as hell, I have played with both Lc a.k.a Heavenblade and 'j. They both have good aim but it isn't perfect. Lc is the most definitely the best at marauder though no doubt about it, 'j only plays human which is kinda odd but I still doesn't make me think of him being a cheater.

It is impossible to distinguish a perfect aimbot from a perfect player, either through code or by specing. Imperfections can be built in to any aimbot to make it seem more human. They can even miss (surprise!), most typically because of lag.
Now what I really wanted to do with this post was scare the shit out of you all by reminding you that Tremulous, as an open source game, is very easy to hack. Namely, modify the source to report pure CRCs of the QVMs (which can be easily dumped) in vms-1.1.0.pk3 and voila, you're running custom CGAME with whatever dirty code you like.
Quake 3, while it was closed source, actually frustrated hackers. I recall a hack that required you to login with a pure client and then disconnect and connect again with your hacked client. With the source code released, that is no longer necessary.
So next time you see a "really good" player who has been "playing since FPSs were created", think twice.
Its not really a matter of IF Trem can be hacked, but WHEN. Making frequent releases and varying the protection code will help. Moreover, the protection code should be highly complicated and at least require the hacker to learn the entire Quake 3 engine and probably do enough work to have written the mod in the first place. :D
-
This thread is completely moronic...
Just because you're a player that has no skill at alien doesn't mean that other players are cheating. Even if there was an aimbot out there, you wouldn't know of its existence at all.
-
hey guess wat, when i gt a jet pack and lasgun, i shoot at least 8 dretch per 5 min., but my computer is fast, and there are 20 people onserver, and were on stage tthree
but none of that denies i have good aim! :D :turret: :turret: :turret:

All that may be true, but it still doesn't change that aimbots for aliens doesn't make any sense whatsoever and more often than not that questionable human is also pretty damned awesome on the other side.

Actually an aimbot for Aliens could be used to time slashes and aim at the head... but yes, nothing compared to a Mass Driver hack.

you wouldn't be able to play on pure servers with that one but: my "play-around-and-modify-whatever-looks-interesting" trem-version actually has "autoaim" ;-)
And yes, i know that bypassing sv_pure isn't hard, but i am not interested in cheating ;-)

Thanks for being stupid! Closed source didn't stop anything, there were/are multiplatform hacks that work for Q3 that were created long before the Q3 source release. Also wow you can drop some random acronyms, you sure are an expert on these hacks! What's funny is any decent hack wont need any of the acronyms you mentioned to work, but who needs facts when you're simply trying to sound like you know what you are talking about.
There are hacks for trem already, who cares. If people are lame enough to want to use hacks in a game such as this; that's their problem. Going OMG THE HACKERS ARE COMING WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO only feeds trolls who hack only to piss people off.

Among my Tremulous tinkerings, I have a folder called svn-755-hacked, the contents of which bear surprising similarity to the exploits I pointed out. Want me to send you a copy? ;)

unless you have a better idea on how to do the pure test (without violating the gpl), i would prefer to have what little defence that offers.
