Title: Phase II of ModDB contest [Updated Info!]
Post by: OverFlow on November 15, 2006, 08:39:03 pm
[The contest is over, thanks for voting!]

[New information concerning the ModDB Contest!]
Looks like the phase 1 nominations are done. Tremulous and 4 other standalone games made it into the top 100. 3 of those mods are unreleased and I see no problems with them. The other mod is 'Warsow' a deathmatch type game that is fairly popular.

The voting ends on January 1st, and I'm fairly certain you need a moddb account for the votes to count. So, if you want me to release those pretty maps I showed in the promo vid... or want me to get a new computer for belated christmas please register and vote for Tremulous!

Also note that you are allowed three votes, so feel free to vote for two other mods, but if you vote for other standalone games as well as Tremulous, we won't have quite as good a chance of winning.

[Old info down below]
Hello.

Mod DB has a nifty little contest every year where people vote for their favorite mods.  One of the categories this year is "Standalone Game of the Year" which I think we have a shot at.

So here's the deal:  The prize is some alienware computer and $1000 and I want it (yeah it'll get split up between the devs somehow)

Instructions:
FIRST:YOU HAVE TO REGISTER WITH MODDB.   You can still vote without doing so, but it only will count in the case of a tie... which is lame.  Lame lame lame.
SECOND: VOTE.
THIRD:  PROFIT FOR ME.

"But OverFlow," you may ask, "what's in it for me?!"  Well I'm glad you ask.  Nothing really.  But I'll make a nice promise for you.  If we win, I'll have a new map done (which is pretty much done) a new human model finished (which is pretty close to done) first person weapon animations completed (which are pretty not close to done) and I'll prod Timbo a bunch about the new patch.  All of this before you can say an extremely long and hard to say word.

Pretty sweet deal, huh?

I will only vote if every penny of that $1000 goes into development for Tremulous!
But I'll vote anyway. No point in not.

We've just had a discussion which involved thinking about working on tremulous!  So yes, quite possibly!

There's a link in the upper left that says: "Join Mod DB"

I believe that should do it.  The mail system seems to be a bit slow.  Please have patience.  Just think of all the cool reactor shooting guns and aliens that fly and infect humans with their long range spike shooting goodness that you might imagine coming into tremulous even though it will never happen.

Looks like with all the voting for Trem, the ModDB folks finally noticed that it exists.  It’s pretty positive review if I do say so myself.

But this doesn't mean you slackers who haven't voted are off the hook!  That was a wild supposition I just made, and by no means guarantees myself getting a shiny new computer!

If you guys win you guys should synchronize the timer with the buildables sometimes when the reactoc or any other buildable is completed it still doesnt function because of the timer. The only buildables that are synchronized with the timer is the tesla and hive.

Just thought I'd pop in and say that the 'phase 1' nominations are coming to an end this Friday (12/15).  So, if you haven't voted for Tremulous yet, please do so!  After Friday, Tremulous should be in the 'top 100' category, then we just need to beat any other pesky standalone games that made it in!

Also, theres a little present on it's way for later today.  I think I may release a map by Friday as well...

The end end is Jan. 15th.  This thing takes a while.  :(

Speaking of which, once this Friday goes by, I'm going to need you peoples to vote again!  And this time I'm quite certain that you need to register for it to count... as opposed to this time, where I was only kinda sure of it.

Anyways... Here's a present for you all!

Nice work!

An idea (or kinda): There is a sequence in fast motion of the humans defending their base. It shows a nice turret-dance. It's cool, but it made me wish of a similar sequence in fast motion of a base construction, moving the base items, etc. I think it will show very well the strategic aspect of Trem.

Very nice video Err. :D  I'm passing it around work, people are usually impressed when they see the wallwalking, or they get sick :P

So, about those nice looking maps of yours, gonna release them anytime soon?  Please? :) Let some of us test run them? Pretty please?

fast motion base building would rock, kinda like you see on some stupid Discovery channel "big constructions" program on TV :). Construction and then destruction would be even better.
Slomo was also awesome :)

I noticed a big, and I mean BIG open area map, is it for real? can we have it? :PP now? :P :P :P
