Sorry for the topic spam, I am having a Balance Mod coding day.
Anyway this ones about cg_thirdperson. The cvar is cheat protected, you can try it using \devmap atcs or something.
Does anyone else think this is the coolest thing ever? :)
I want to enable a range protected version (ie cant zoom out more than so far) for Balance Mod.
-
dublicate the code
add safety
add console command
cg_thirdpersonsafe
as
cvar_archive
-
You can look around corners with it.

Spectator mode would be sort of neat like this.. but if you plan on putting this in the game... ^^^^^
-
spoilers: you can do it with a custom cgame so trying to protect it, is not very useful
-
Spec-mode would be cool!
-
A third person option while spectating would be awesome.
Perhaps bind it to RMB?

No amount of cheat protecting will fix that... its still such a cool feature I think its worth it. Looking around corners isnt such a bad thing with radars, turret sounds, and footsteps anyway.

3rd person specing would be really cool...but trying to actually play in 3rd person is a dif story...

It makes wallclimbing so easy...
-
it makes aiming so...not
and since when is wallclimbing hard? if you have problems turn the speed down...tho i do just fine on instant
-
Yeah, people in Planetside consider 3rd person view cheating. I would like this and the luci-saber. CODE IT!

Thanks but no thanks, you are going way too far in modifying. It's not possible to play from 3rd person view, atleast to aim. Maybe it makes it look cool but it just WONT work in fast fps, try to turn around with it

For some reason it takes out the crosshair. Add that and I'll use it.

The Balance Mod third person has been modified a bit.- It is range limited so you cant zoom out all the way to the enemy base.
- It keeps the crosshair.
- It scales by your model size so you don't have to twiddle the range when you change classes.
There are screenshots in the balance mod thread (the crosshair is kind of hard to see though, but its there).
Also about aiming and turning. Any visual effects of lag are purely that. Quake doesnt turn your model until you turn more than so many degrees, it doesnt affect your aim. In fact all third person does, in relation to your aim is to move your view out backwards while keeping the pivot point exactly the same. Your rate of turn is the same as well.
The only effect on aiming is psychological. Because you now have a big ass Dragoon model blocking your viwe (for example) your tendency is to put yourself in "car mode" and look down at the floor. When you do this youre actualling aiming at the floor as well. You have to get used to aiming level through your goon's ass.

yeah, i cant see crap with tyrant or B-Suit. however, it does look cool.

add a higher FoV when using the bigger aliens and the battle suit it would be good if in trem the people who made it should have coded when using a dretch it should go into 3rd person then it could be easier for attacking?

Balance mod DOES scale for BOUNDING BOX HEIGHT. The problem is with Tremulous bounding boxes. The bsuit has the exact same dimensions as a normal human, despite being 1.5x taller!

Better, try this: go to Tremor. Build an armory on the ledge so it hangs off and you barely have enough room to crouch and squeeze under it. Once there, buy a bsuit (yes you can!) You will not be standing under the armory which can only hold a crouching human.
