Post by: Rawr on December 28, 2006, 04:52:36 am
The Deconers
What ever happened to them?

anyone know? i miss the old days
ive heard a couple of things, global ban was one of them, does trem have Gban?

The Skill
Remember when people actually jumped to get headshots? not do the gay-ass ground headshots.

Those 'gay-ass' headshots are what is correct, the jumping is retarded.

Although ground head-shots are completely legal, I find them extremely cheap.
Yes, I still jump for my head-shots.
Then again, I suck at dretch, and I usually just do one of 3 things until I get to marauder:
1. Cheap kills
2. Leg bites until death, preferable with poison.
3. Get shot out of midair while going for the head-bite.

Technically a dretch biting from the ground up to a head is overextending its mouth by something like 5-6 times it body length. Not good realism, but dretches would be underpowered otherwise. Especially with how deadly unlagged makes human weapons... of course we could always nerf all around. :)

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!
I hate headbites because
1. I suck at them (don't call be a noob!)
2. I get killed by it (don't call me a noob!)
3. I like it better when I wallcrawl and headshot them (more realistic and more "alien-style")

Also, DON'T CALL BE A NOOB!  :oops:

No, actually I think that the jumping is the actual thing that should work.
Ever seen a spider on the ground bite someone's head? OUTSIDE of your computer? No? Here's a tip: when you decide to go realistic and try a jump-headbite, jump sideways. do NOT jump straight into his face, this would mean jumping into his crosshair and BLAM! your dead. a jump from the back is preferable. And i'm not talking about sideways jumps as in jumping FROM the side, but as in: when facing the hummie:

 :human: ............ :dretch:
hummie & dretch facing each other

 :human: .......--------*
.......:dretch:--
dretch jumps in hummies general direction, but jumps slighty sideways so it would originally miss the hummie. hummie thinks dretch is jumping straight: shoots, misses.

(Edit: hummie could also think the dretch is jumping the other way, and turn the other way to shoot, resulting in a very comical death. This also means some ppl could see where your going and shoot you anyway. In this case, it would be an idea to run past them, turn and jump at the back of the hummie's head.)

 :human: .......--------*
 :dretch: -------
Our hero the dretch turns in mid-air to face dazzled hummie and bites automatically.

 :egg: .......--------*
 :dretch: -------
Dretch falls down and continues facing hummie, biting toes. Hummie dies.

LEGEND: a ' . ' is nothing. only used for space.
a ' - ' is the dretches path.
a ' * ' is where the dretch started.
a ' :egg: ' is used to sybolise a gravestone. (dead hummie)
a ' :human: ' is a hummie that is not yet dead.
a ' :dretch: ' is (duh) a dretch.

I'm not telling anyone not to use the 'realisticly-seen-impossible' ground headbite, but i'm just saying that a jump would be more realistic. (and, in some cases, more fun  :D )

Egad lol this post looks so huge.

With unlagged, I would never dretch again if ground headbites were impossible.

It sounds cute to make things more realistic, but I would take practicality over realism any day. Since when is a game with aliens in it supposed to be realistic? Tyrant legs aren't realistic. No one complains about tyrant legs. Why do people bitch about ground headshots? Because you cant shoot a spider?

n00b, the dretch headaim is kind of cheap... what about those helpless innocent new players? What will they do when they witness this headbite thing? "IMBA!"
Also, .. I forgot... nevermind... :oops:

Yes, let us not forget that Dretches in general have a lot to do with 'realism'.

Play some unlagged. Unlagged REALLY helps humans. Dretches are useless as long as they dont sneak up on you.

What you mean before I posted about it in the "how to play alien" thread months ago and let out the "pro" secret to the masses?

Yeah, sorry about that.....

For info, the first time I've faced that, my first reaction was screaming "CHEAT!" Only somewhat later did I find about that trick.

I do a 180 head shot...

<HUMAN>

<DRETCH>

Dretch jumps to the side of the human

<HUMAN> <DRETCH>

Dretch turns, hits the head of the human, and kills him from the back

<DRETCH>
<HUMAN>

and I dont do ground headbites, sometimes, if im too lazy, but i jump most of my time...

If you're going to remove the best sneak- attack of the dretch (ground headbites do not make sound, because you dont have to jump) you better make the basilisk soundless, as it really should be more of a sneaking class.

+1 i dont understand lisk. out of all the classes its the one i think should sneak the most, yet it makes almost as much noise as a bsuit and the thing is PINK

Hmm tremulous has somewhat dropped off the goon radar. However all it would take would be a simple post in the something awful games forum to cause a new surge of LLJK tag wearers. My excuse for not being visible is that I havnt played for 3 months since I'm still in Japan. Someone hurry up and sort out that unlagged stuff properly dammit!

The balanced mod has unlagged support.
The only problems currently with unlagged is with very large pings, when the corrections create "warping" effects.

i remember back when i stayed up late to play on AKKA, cause it was full most of the day, and my ping was only good enough to get when the internet wasn't in use.
