Hi, although there are threads on bugs similar to my problem, I decided to open a new thread, because it differs a bit from the stuff I found + there seems to be no approach to the problem under Linux.
When I try to receive a new server list from the internet, my system gets a complete freeze, no keys working, only way to get the box working again is to press the reset button. Joining a game via favorite servers still works fine.
The game screen is still on while the system freezes and it's showing "Getting info for -1 servers"
The problem first occured spontaneous some months ago under Ubuntu Dapper Drake (6.06). I don't know what triggered the bug, it used to run perfectly before and I didn't change my system settings nor tremulous itself.
Problem is persistent even after a complete fresh installation of both the game and the OS; I'm currently using Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10).
Thx for your help,greets
reic
it's not a system freeze, it's just that tremulous is waiting for a response from the master server, which is taking a long time for whatever reason, you should just wait for it to finish.
dunno, i've waited for quite some time, and the system is not responding to any keystrokes, plus the led indicating that NUMlock is active is not responding, which - until now - I took for a safe sign that every hope is lost :]
But I'll give it a try!
Edit: I appreciate your help, but tremulous definetely crashes my system, I gave it 30 minutes (finished some stages in Super Mario Land 2 in that time ;) )to recover, the sound keeps skipping/repeating and none of the key - combinations work (X-Server reset etc.).

yeah, sdl will even prevent alt+sysrq+k from working when tremulous isn't responding.
Do you still use vanilla client or have you installed TJW's backport client (http://trem.tjw.org/backport)?
Only solution that comes to my mind is to ssh into the box and reboot it :)
As for the error/crash.. what version of SDL have installed?
I tried standard client, the TJW backport client as well as rasz_pl's version mentioned in this thread temporary bugfix pack before new version, Download HERE (http://tremulous.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2671&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=patch&sid=3aa3f194dec3cb008bfdfb057deec211) - problem's still there.
As for the SDL - version, I currently use the one that comes with Edgy Eft, package is called libsdl1.2debian, version 1.2.10-3ubuntu2.
btw... ssh? are you for real? :D
thx for your support guys :)
