I supose many of you know who I am.
I recently took on the task of maping in an attempt to try new stuff in the world of trem.
As a result, I got 2 very annoying players urging me to do it, and I need some help, that these two can't provide.
A. For some reason I can't compile the map in order to test it(stupid window+stupid winrar thingy, just won't work) so I'd like to know if someone would be willing to help me do so(use of msn and/or internet to send the map files/textures so he can compile and send back or whatever fits your mind)
B. I need help in creating the doors which might be tricky. I'll explain later on why it would be so.
C. I need textures and don't own a digital camera as well as suck at photoshop. As such, I'd like to know if people would be willing to share textures that would fit the theme I'm working on.
Now here comes the tricky part.

This is the layout of the map, though pretty simple and what will be released in alpha for testing, I plan on later on adding a second floor which will be right on top with stairs as well as crevice and the likes.
Since I want to go for something original, I'm basing this map in a dungeon theme, as such the texture need to be:
A.Dark
B.stone like
Light will be emanated from torch, so as to keep the feel or an under ground dungeon.
As for teh doors, I was thinking of making something of the likes of a wooden door which would open sideway with hinges. If thats not actually possible or that its impossible for me and no one wishes to help me with it, I plan on making it so teh doors are either:
A.Missing
B.Open
C. open and missing pieces
The map is already in progress, and I'll post some screenies as soon as I can find/get some good tectures.
Please post your thoughts/ideas/comments/anything else.
Please keep the flaming down. I can take critisisism, as long as its not insulting(In fact I prefer good critisisism over the "I really like the idea" thingys)

About problem (A) I belive you need to fix this your self. It would take looooooong time to get bugs fixed by sending the map file to someone else. I find most bugs on compile part and play testing. Takes about 30 mins to build highrise properly with full best light. Even if i build with vis or fast lighting generation it still takes about 10 mins. meta take4s about 5 mins. then include 20 mins of play testing and glich finding. Also sending map file every time and sending it back compiled. So what i am saying if you can't build it your self then forget about it.

Then if that way doesn't work, then I need a way to compile it myself. Thus I'll have to ditch winrar and switch to zip.
The last thing I want to do is stop this here.

ReCompiling is generally a baaad idea, as it forces all players on your server to download your version that is only played on your server.

He is the mapper, releasing a new one, which is a recompile of the original one - bugs...
Your doors are doable although they might provide some problems concerning building. Look for the func_door_rotating and read the help part in the entity window, especially the last part concerning the origin. (When you make the func door select the doorbrush and the origin texture, which is the turnpoint of the door. When they are both selected make them func_door_rotating)

Even better, look at the entities.def files in tremulous/base/scripts for a description of all entities.

Also for compiling you may wish to look into the compiler program q3build2, it's a life saver.
Texture wise you might want to do a search of the web, alot of the old q3 texture sites have closed up/merged with others but there are alot of good sites still floating about. ie. evillair.net (the hfx texture paks)
Might also want to searh for mrcleans texture packs.

Thanks for the help, I was wondering if it was doable. Now that I know how, I'll be putting a few of them in my map.

The problem isin't about finding textures, its about finding textures that fit my theme.
Regardless, thanks to kattana, who graciously sent a few many textures from different games, I was able to retreive about a dozen or so good ones(Out of 500 or so textures received>_<)
I'm still looking into that compiling thing, I hope to get it to work soon as I keep getting bugged :x

You might try this texture pack:

It's 2000-odd textures in a 125 meg download.
Don't know if they are that good for Tremulous though... Or what you are doing,
although there are some rock/stone textures in it...
Also most of the textures are in a 512 x 512 format.
Some of the textures came from other authors on the internet.
They are all suppose to be "freely distributable" though.

Well, I finally got the compiler to work ^.^
Finally they'll stop bugging me while they test it out.
Now I'm gonna go back to work on my texturing/lighting and gimmick thingys I gotta make :P
I'll post screenies as soon as I feel like I got the right feel. 8)

I am actually working on a Lego tyrant.
However, interesting as this may be, lets get back to the map.

It's made using technic pieces, the legs, torso, and arms are about done, but I am having some troubles with the head.
And I don't have any teaser images either, so there.

Screenies would be useless, since I'm having troubles with teh textures(Their not showing right) And am trying to fix it. So right now, my walls look like crap(They really do :oops: )
Right now, as for game play:
Halls seems to be a bit small, because of that, anything larger then a goon as a hard time around the map. This brings in teh issue of blocking, and its a major factor. But because its mostly a lot of hallways and small rooms, sneak attacks are easy to do until humans are s2.
Alien base is located in the cellar(downstairs) and currently, there are 2 entry, one being a stair way and the other a hole(Gonna become a ladder sometimes in the comming versions) This means the alien base is a death trap. This will soon be repaired with a 3rd entry that will lead to another side of the map in order to remove that death trap.
I'm also gonna expend the second level a little bit and probably rescale teh map by 1.25 in order to make everything a little bit bigger.
So basically, the map is currently alien sided until humans reach s2, at which point its totally human sided, even s3 aliens would have trouble against s2 humans. Though the small corridors make fighting tyrants in them pretty much useless.
If you want screen shots, I can send you some, though it would be useless, map will be getting changed over the course of teh following days.

I chose not to add yarou in that list, since all he did all game was bitch about the lag and the lack of textures.
As soon as I'll have those textures working, I should be ready for a beta release of the map, before that, you can ask me if you want to check the progress.

Whenever I'm about to test the next map, I'll message you, its usually tested on orc's server, and if you catch it online, its in server rotation.
