There's Wings3D http://www.wings3d.com/ This is easy to learn.
Then there's Blender http://www.blender.org/cms/Home.2.0.html The UI is a bit of a culture shock at first but it becomes quite efficient once you're used to it. The people who wrote SharpConstruct have been integrating similar functionality into Blender (hence the slow development of SC itself). Both W3D and Blender have good documentation and tutorials. Most 3D artists I've met use several programs rather than just one...

Blender3D is hard to use

Indeed. It's hard to use, but only at first.
Like I said, it's very different to other 3D packages (Maya, 3DSMax, etc..). My only thoughts when I first tried blender were "OMG!" and "WTF?!". After about four hours of following the beginner's tutorials the basic modeling system became easy to use.

and I don't like Wings3D.

Neither did I at first, it looks like something you'd expect to see on a 1980's unix workstation. It's a lightweight subdivision modeler, good for when you just want to make a model and blender feels like featurespam. I alternate between the two pending what I'm trying to do.

For how long? How many of the tutorials did you do? How far did you get in them?

I don't remember well to tell you the truth but it was a video tutorial. I've redownloaded to try again.

Lara Croft has large assets.

I recommend you follow this book instead of the video tutorials: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro

The videos were just too quick for me when I had just started...

I will try thanks.

A few mins ago I just realised that I wanted a free 3D sculpting program not a 3D modeller.

I am going to check ZBrush right now.

SharpConstruct has been depreciated for Blender's sculpt anyway. Try Blender 2.43rc1 or 2.
