Title: In-game voice chat system?
Post by: Repentance on January 28, 2007, 07:59:07 am
Press (and hold?) a button and it works. Different buttons per team. Just like the Counter Strike way. This would lessen a lot of confusion on communication.

Just my two cents.

Been discussed before, I am too lazy to refresh the weighty arguments against it. Use the SEARCH.

Don't use the search, use Ventrilo (http://www.ventrilo.com/)

Yes, this would be nice, but it has been discussed before, and it mostly ended in a flame war.

I allready told you..Ventrilo.

doesn't take much space and u just need to press a predefined button to talk (even while playing in game).
You can also use TeamSpeak.(Not recommended)

Code: [Select]
tremulous-tjw.x86 2>&1 | sed -n -u -e 's/[a-Z~@#$%^&*()_-\ \\0-9\n\t]*: ^[0-9]/("/gp ' |sed -n -u -e 's/.*/&")/gp' | speak -p 40 -s 160;

The sed commands are to remove non-chat strings, the -p40 and -s 160 flags to speak are to set the pitch and words per minute.

You can get espeak here: http://espeak.sourceforge.net/

Ventrilo is windows only, and a very large number of tremulous players are playing on linux or OS X (and maybe one or 2 people are crazy enough to run it on *BSD), and Teamspeak is the only program that works on all of them right now.

Not only that, the quality of the codecs is with TS much higher than with ventrilo AND the bandwidth usage is less.
