[13:11:47] <Timbo> uh oh
[13:11:50] <Timbo> etox is on to us
For the time being Trem is essentially dead. Which is really unfortunate because of how close to completion we are. Timbo is quite busy trying to find a job, I have a very large class load this quarter, and jex... I think ran out of steam because of all the things he was doing.
Last week I was able to put the finishing details on my map. So it'd be nice if we could test it out. The thing is that I think we all feel like with the amount of testers we got, even after release Tremulous will hardly be played at all. Its kind of disappointing to put so much work into the mod, then have no one playing. So perhaps by indefinitely delaying the release we feel justified in the lack of players... Or we're all lazy.

Tremulous got close.
At least showing off Tremulous should help with the jobfinding.

Meh, it's not completely cold yet. The biggest problem is really getting enough players together to get a momentum together. You can't just say "it's done" and expect everyone to suddenly start playing.
-
We need to either rally players, let this die, or port it to a new(er) engine. Id like to see it ported or moved or redone (etc) to a newer engine if nothing happens.
-
We need to either rally players,
With respect, when you say 'We' you really should say 'You' :P
let this die,
Let's not kill it before it's actually born :)
or port it to a new(er) engine.
That's not a realistic option, due to the enormous amount of work required. Historically mods that move engines do not fare well. Besides, the Q3 source is likely to be released soon, which opens up the door for a lot of next (current) generation engine features.
-
Trem seams to be dying before its born.. Sure when the Q3 source is released some of the community will return, but not as much as a new-er engine. And since youve ruled out porting where will this go? Still birth?
I can try to rally players, but I dont know a huge amount of people within the gaming community. k

It's not a question of ruling it out, it's a case of practical impossibility. It's taken fuck knows how long to get Trem to where it is on the Q3 engine. With anything nextgen the content times are huge due to the higher poly models required, not to mention the multiple texture maps. The game source alone for Doom 3 is roughly the same size as the ENTIRE Q3 source. It's just not feasible in any sort of sensible time scale.
"Porting" to another engine is really a misnomer. Porting implies that the set of changes required to have something run in one environment versus another is minimal. In porting from e.g. Q3 to D3 the only thing that can really reasonably be ported are the texture maps, sounds and potentially maps. Models are all too low poly and the code would need a 90% rewrite.
For nextgen game engines such as D3 (HL2 doesn't count, it's not really nextgen) I fully expect the mod scene to be fairly sparse, as the time committment required to have any sort of high quality content is getting to the stage where amateurs are going to struggle.
I'd love to be proved wrong, but unfortunately I don't think I will be.

Awww cmon people, you cant give up now :(
This is AWSOME just that the word has to be spread to the players. I mean it took me forever just to find out that this mod even exsisted. All you have to do is find a way to get planetquake to put up a paragraph or whatever they do for they mods out there to show to the players what this mod is all about. Trust me if you do this, this mod will sky rocket in the amount of players that play it now.
I dont want to see this great mod fail like almost every other mod out there :(

Yes, we suck. We have been working on it a fair bit in recent weeks though - check the download page if you haven't recently. Also http://tremulous.net/ChangeLog
