Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: Plague Bringer on February 09, 2007, 12:57:45 am
Alpha One of the SGC is out for play-testing, bug fixes, and general public awareness. Please report all bugs, problems, and most importantly suggestions here.

Unfortunately, the StarGate itself is inoperative and just there as eye candy. The StarGate will link to an offworld location in the next Beta.

Thank you. ^^

I'll post them here incase anyone else is interested in working on this project. The floorplans are only for levels 27 and 28, Gate level and hammond's office / briefing level. I wanted to link the gate to another world.

(http://xs512.xs.to/xs512/07065/SGCLevel28.JPG) (http://xs.to)

click for full size (though I found it easier to work with them at this size, not taking up more then a page width) (and thanks for not flaming about my laziness :P) (i can help with smaller models like the gate, DHD, powerboxes, computer consoles, etc, but i'm not ready for a whole map yet) (also, i couldn't get anything other then a shader into gtk for a custom texture :S)

@n00b - OMG, u seriously have never heard of a stargate?

@all who want to help - I have a STARGATE PREFAB almost complete (i cant seem to change gamma settings in GTK tho so I have to pump gamma down to .5 for a good lighting in-game) I will post screenshots as soon as I complete it (and a .map for importing into the SGC and planet)

StarGate rules!!!!
Screw the bastards for canning it though.

A SGC map would rock.
Have the gate link to Atlantis! (Via the midway station, if you can)

I havn't seen Atlantis, or any other sub-series, infact. i've only ever watched StarGate : SG1. Col. O'Neil, Maj. Carter, Teal'c, and Dr. Jackson. (Of course Jonas Quinn was in for a while.)

What about Mitchell and Vala?
You are way behind.
On series 10 now, Vala came in 8.

Yeah, I really don't want to watch anything without Col. O'Neil, his absence is somewhat disturbing.

Post by: David on February 10, 2007, 01:39:18 am
His absence doesn't detract that much, its still kick ass.
The vala / jackson thing is golden.
Its getting better over time, if that's possible.
You don't know what your missing.

Meh, back to the map, got any plans of a section of Atlantis?
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: [tycho] on February 10, 2007, 01:58:07 am
waiiiiit....

ok, we have establised that one section of the map is going to be the SGC,

can we have more than one gate desitation?

saaaaaay----alien world, atlantice, another alien world?

if it's only possible to have one permanant gate desination then it should be an alien world....

if someone could figure out some sort of control mech for changing the desination of the portel in the gate.....that would be awesome.

edit:

do you have textures?
how far are you mapping the SGC?
got a stargate model yet?

I could help, just tell me what to do.
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>

If we want multiple gate destinations we're gonna have to make multiple maps (as far a I know). I am finishing up the gate and gate platforms now (textures are less than perfect). I've got to find some people who are willing to help with the mapping process (as I said, I can't do a releasable quality map by myself on the first try). I'd also like to get a hold of Maltagearion, Catalyc, or someone else who has made sucessfull teleporters to help with connecting (wherever the hell the alien base is going to be) and the SGC together.

EDIT: Here's my --far from perfect-- gate model (not rigged for teleportation, or any other effects yet, it's completely static, not even the water moves yet)
(http://xs312.xs.to/xs312/07066/StarGate.png) (http://xs.to)

EDIT: Textures of the base are changed but I'm too lazy to rehost right now.

Leeter than your gate, Yoda is.

But the Gate is still very, very leet.
I remember ET had a stargate map, kinda reminiscent of Gold-rush and fuel Depot, but as custom ET maps go, it wasn't that bad.
However, the amount of research you are putting into this thing will trump ET's SGC by a long shot.
And please don't make the gate connect to Hamunaptura.

my gate pwns hamunaptra's...mine's solid...I really want this map to turn out awesome, so that's why I'm looking for help, so I dont screw it up by myself :P (oh, i cant get the models into GTK, they're most likely just in the wrong folder...i'll move them straight to /base/maps and edit this with results) (oh yeah i got it..pwnage) :O beautiful...however it's just one big shader not found (base/textures/SGC right? what format do I save textures in?)

Dasprid claims to have gate dialing effects in his Hamunaptra thread.

Maybe he has some more resources he could let you use.

You should contact him.
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: Plague Bringer on February 10, 2007, 02:07:40 pm
currently I dont know if I would be able to make multiple dialing locations (meaning turning the teleporter off and then another one on) and since I don't know how to turn a teleporter off (OMG! M.E.E.P.!) I dont have any use for dialing effects.

its easy to get the models into gtk....right click-->misc-->misc_model(something like that)--> and then just nav the the model.

edit:

ahahah....the gate isen't solid. hmm...thats easy to fix. howabout some playerclip around it.

the gate and dhd models apear to be exactly the same ones in hamnamtura

do you think dasprid would mind stealing that portel shader of his? its pretty awsome.

goddammit i will not let this die!

forget the stargate model for a min. I can use it, and i can compile. therefore it will work. use the untextuered version as a placeholder.

how far are you mapping the sgc(human base)?

because if you want i could map the alien base and then combine the two.
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: Plague Bringer on February 13, 2007, 08:45:24 pm
oh, believe me....i am NOT letting this die, i'm using my own stargate prefab right now..one problem..i cant devmap the bsp (to check out the in-game size of the gate room). "SV_*something*MODEL : NULL" untill I can get the bsp working the project is going on hold :S, I've rediscovered Halo PC anyway :P I'll probably just start a new map, I only have the gateroom kinda finished anyway...oh, and if you could do the alien base it'd be awesome, and a big help...I was thinking the alien base could either be an old pyramid with the stargate at the end of a long stone path (i'll doodle it later) and you have to walk into the pyramid...it'd suck if hummies got a camper base there though :S...or it could be the slave dungeon in that episode (forget number and name :S). It's all firey like hell...or even abandoned Tok'Ra tunnels!!
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: [tycho] on February 13, 2007, 10:27:42 pm
i was thinking either a smaller kinda ancent remains thing, but the pyramid is really good idea....i will work on it screenies will come soon.

lol, will hamnamturea textures
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: Plague Bringer on February 13, 2007, 10:40:02 pm
The red is trigger hurt (to stop jettards from owning the map) and the greenish part is nobuild (to prevent humans from setting up a permanent base and MassDriving tyrants before they get halfway there).
(http://xs512.xs.to/xs512/07072/raew.png) (http://xs.to)

Gate room is going to have to be 400+ editor units high to fit the stargate...is that going to be too large?
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: [tycho] on February 13, 2007, 11:37:25 pm
naw its fine, why would it be too large?

i was thinking having the gate inside the pyramid....think the original stargate movie. that would prevent insane massdriving problems.
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: Plague Bringer on February 13, 2007, 11:45:09 pm
 i've never seen the movie...dont forget, this is my first map, i'm shit with judjing sizes at the moment :P. the gate platform and room in general are coming along nicely, gonna be hell aligning some light textures on the railings of the gate ramp, but, i'll survive :P i'll post some screens once I get the gate ramp done 100%
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: [tycho] on February 14, 2007, 12:03:54 am
sounds good.

lol, this will be my first major map...

what textures are you using?

annnd this may sound like a horribly dumb question, but how do I get new textures into gtk?

EDIT: for scale, I insert a reactor model into each room i'm working  on. just don't for get to delete it, lol.
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: Plague Bringer on February 14, 2007, 12:28:50 am
haha, i was trying to figure that out a week ago also..what I did was : Make a new folder in /base called Textures, made a new folder named StarGate, inserted textures, restarted Radiant and saw my textures. (btw, all textures have to be in tga format) I'm "borrowing" textures from various maps, but mainly getting them from the Andromeda 2 texture pack...oh, and to avoid critics in one hour games saying OMG GATE DIDNT SHUT DOWN AFTER 38 MINUTES!!!!! let's throw a MALP into the gate room in the temple  8)
Title: StarGate Command Map <[Alpha One Released]>
Post by: [tycho] on February 14, 2007, 01:49:16 am
thanks...lol. it works

HELL yes....MALP....

thats in the alien side, so i guess its my job to model it....

EDIT:

what, they would want to be trapped on an alien plantet wiht light armor and a lassgun after 38 mins???

lol

i know. but it would be cool to find a way of activating the gate

maby something with putting the portle on a moving (invisible) surface. activing up would make it appear (slide up behind the gate) rEeeeealy fast, and after a little while it would go off

that might also make it possible to have multiple destinitions

good to hear that you're doing well on your side,  C:/Program Files/Tremulous/base/textures/StarGate <-- that's mine...All of your textures have to be in .tga format (http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/ {You said you're running a Mac?} The Gimp is a great editing program if you dont allready have it, it's good even for opening an image and saving it as a .tga)  [PS. Love your profile location :P]

EDIT: I'm starting on the right hallway now, gate room is done, really this time.

perhaps, you could always just use Hamunaptra's textures as a place holder :P, i'm off to see the last 15 minutes of StarGate and then get to bed (I have the left corridor up to the office by the freight elevator in the very rough stages of dev.

Post by: Plague Bringer on February 15, 2007, 01:17:55 pm
there are many maps with sand and/or temple textures if you need them, but some ice caverns will be pretty cool, you could even get some mirrors in there if you wanted, or slippery patches...

EDIT::You could model it as some Tok'Ra tunnels, I know that the Tok'Ra would never get a gate down there, but it would add to the stargate feel of that half of the map.

The you could put Ancient-Remains-esque tunnels inside, nice and alien-base-ish

All help would be appreciated, [tycho] is stuck making a MALP so we can justify the gate being open longer then 38 minutes, I'm sure he'd like help with that. AFAIK the alien base is going to be based in some ice caverns (I hope they turn into abandoned Tok'Ra tunnels or some Goa'Uld temple or mothership though).

In the interest of accuracy...
A malp cant hold a gate open for more than 38 min.
The only things that can do that are insanely large power sources, normally black holes, although the Asurans do have a means to do it.
Maybe have a button in the control room, and on the DHD to dial it, and then it shuts down after a minute, then you could have the DHD and control room button away from there gates, to promote more team work.
Also, the gate is one-way, and there has never been any hint of it being changed somehow. The only thing that's two way is sending energy signals through, as well as gravitational fields etc.
A ring transporter could probably go both ways, but would be a bitch to map.

Also, who says all has to be well at the SGC? you could have the aliens having already attacked, and the place in disarray.

Post by: Plague Bringer on February 15, 2007, 10:57:13 pm
The MALP would be sending in some video feed. Since when are gates one way? The only transporter that can be turned off and on that I've seen is the one in MEEP and you can only turn one end on there (besides, I have no idea how to do something as complex as that). Also, having the gate dial, and the particle effects involved in establishing the event horizon would be far too complex for me.

ok, the offworld map is almost complete. it's kinda like karith cept less detailed, and with a stargate, lol. it's complely playable as a small normal map, a little smaller than the size of atcs zalpha.

combined with the sgc it should be perfect.

i will post the .map file:

http://ihostupost.com/files/148/offworld_a3.txt

just change it from a .txt to a .map
the filehosting im using only will take .txt or pics

EDIT: feel free to do some retexutreing and please, add some lights.

@Ace1 - Hey Ace, how's $PC$ doin'? I'm out of [ICE], I think Vash left too :P. Oh, and...thanks? :P

@[tycho] - I had to change the size fullclip to match the Stargate model I'm using (from Hamunaptra). Lighting is really screwed up, hurts to look at the walls in gamma 1.3 so I made them a little darker. The SGC is almost completely playable, I just need to put in another 3 (I think) corridors, a few doors, and put some details into the armoury and cooridors.

so are you taking over the project? or can i still work on my part of the map?

theres still a few things i would like to add:

break a pane of a window above the gate
add ladders in the big vally thing.
add details to the big walls
add a cavern thing below
finish lighting
add a dhd

could you post your sgc.map file?

I was thinking I'd get someone familiar with camera portals to put in a vid. feed from the MALP to the control room, and someone who's familiar with elevators to get the two personelle elevators operational. and someone smart to put in some location tags

@Ace - as soon as you understand what everything does, it is really easy to work with. At first (I don't like to read manuals, it's easier to figure it out myself) I had no clue how to deselect :P, but after (maybe) a week, I had a nice looking room for a human base and the start of an alien "base" (two eggs) for a mission-esque map (humans found an egg and transported it to a research facility, suprisingly, the egg can still give "birth" new aliens. The aliens have to make a base starting with the overmind and overthrow the humans, the project died quickly).

Nice map :).

For further map dev, the gate room doors should open sideways, there could be an elevator to connect the 2 levels, the gate could be dialed and would be open for 38 seconds, instead of the 38 minutes, and should be 1 way, then the side that dialed would have a 1 minute cooldown, this is reset once the other side dials.

The human base would be further back the base, but defences up front, the gate rooms windows could be closed down by a metal plate.

There could be some sort of intermission video when teams travel through the gate.

Hope this helped.

EDIT: I've got some stargate sounds that would go with the map, PM me for the file  :) .

You have a few texture overlap problems around doors. The doors to the alien base and one of the doors into the stargate thingamabob. There might be others too.

This map still needs a lot of work, it is very very ugly as of yet. My inclination would be to call this an alpha.

- give the map a name by entering a 'message' field into any worldspawn.
- include the textures with the map, especially if you're using textures from nonstandard maps.
- Try to avoid dead end hallways.

This map has lots of room for improvement, it has potential, but it needs more work.

Stargate is teh best show of all time.

Well, I dont know anything about mapping, but I can help beta test with my friends, and I have some suggestions.  Keep in mind, that I know nothing about mapping, so I dont know how this would work.

TEXTURES:
Well, this is a beta 1, so I have some ideas of how you could texture (what types) for the map.
First, the atcs metal textures woudl look good for the floor and everything around the base.
For/if the outdoors other world.  You should do the Asgard homeworld, that would be awesome.  Dunno what textures you should use, but if you do an outdoors world, you should talk to dasprid about the ancient remains textures he was using, and see if you can get permission to use those.  And for the stargate warter effect, you could just make it (the water effect) flow down, instead of radiate from the center, not enough people would know the differance.

MULTI-WORLD-STARGATE:

Well, prehaps at s1, it opens to one, s2 another, and s3 another.  Problem is that people might be stuck off world.  So I suggest that you either have it timed, 3 min at world one, 3 min off.  3 min at world 2, 3 min off, etc.  Or better yet, have the computers be "buttons" that when you push one, it goes to one world, then you cant push it for 3 min.  then you could push another one to go to a different world.  and if ppeople are off-world, they can push the dialer, and go back to earth (assuming no outgoing wormhole is active). OR you can just have 4 stargates per world (alot I know) and have each go to somewhere: earth, planet 2, planet 3, planet 4 etc.

LITTLE COMPLAINTS:

Well, for an untextured map, my fps is at 17, so I am scared when you texture it :P.  And also, the gateroom is a bit to long I think, make it a bit shorter if you can :-P.

Well, I hope you understand all this, my brain is kinda fried as of now, but this map is awesome, keep up the great work.

Woha, thats alot of text.  :D

Thanks for the comments, Niff. The only problem I have with making multiple gate destinations is the PARTICLE EFFECTS involved with establishing the event horison.

Do you think you can you make it so it kills people during the "splash"?  That sounds kinda hard  :-?   But it would be so cool to be attacking a rant, dial the stargate, and then BAM!  No more rant :P.

EDIT: I saw your pic of the skinned stargate, when will you be doing your next release with that included?

Like looking from the window in the Stargatecontrollcenter(somthing like that), so when hummies camp they can look at the stargate being activated. *sniff*Please??*sniff*

unless someone with a helluva lot of mapping experiance comes to this thread and says "Give me the .map for the SGC and the offworld alien base, I will make the gate be activated by a button and have particle effects and only go one way and everything" then there will be no gate (de)activation.

The Kawoosh, aka the Flush.
The Stargate like is the anti-toilet.
It spins around, then flushes, then you throw stuff into the clear waters.
And yes, men always forget to close the Iris when they are done.
