Title: AMD64 Possible on lInux??
Post by: hammett on August 13, 2005, 03:57:38 am
I run Quake 3 and Team Arena on Linux using the quake3-smp binaries. I have managed to install that Tremulous mod however when I use the ./tremulous.sh command I get the ol' "libso.gl.1 error" or whatever message.

I edited the Tremulous startup script so that instead of this:

#! /bin/sh
quake3 $* +set com_hunkMegs 100 +set fs_game tremulous

I now have this:

#! /bin/sh
quake3-smp $* +set com_hunkMegs 100 +set fs_game tremulous

No errors, starts fine, however.....no tremulous mod!!! it just goes straignt into Quake 3 Arena, nothing in the mods section either.

HINTS my peeps!! HINTS!!! How to get the bugger running me need frag action!!!!

Recompile the source, its in the installer.

qvms is interpreted tho, so im not sure if this will make a difference. Also, check with timbo the code guy/lead dev on #tremulous, quakenet.

It's nothing to do with the source. I suspect you probably have it installed in the wrong place. Sorry about the amd64 issues, I realised it was a problem too late to really do anything about it. Is your tremulous directory either /usr/local/games/quake3/tremulous (or where ever your Q3 dir is) or ~/.q3a/tremulous. It won't function elsewhere.

EUREKA!!!! Thanks Timbo, it runs now. I had it installed in my home directory, where I mirrored my Q3 installation (easy upgrade and patching).

So I moved the Tremulous directory to /usr/local/games/quake3 and kept my changes to the tremulous script, i.e using quake3-smp and not quake3.

Thanks my man, frag action here I cum!!! :D  :D  :D  :D

PS: I have mirrored the tremulous directory to my home folder and it still works, so no issues with any automatic patching....hehehehe!!! Kill kill kill!!
