Title: On-screen display of base status.
Post by: Odin on February 26, 2007, 07:30:53 pm
I think it would be cool to have a small grid for structures in one of the corners of the screen that shows the damage status of each structure, by making them change to all red when they are critically damaged, and blink when they are attacked.

Basically it would show a grid filled with icons of the different structures that are currently in existence in the game. This would allow players to know if their base needs defending and repairs.

If that's too much, then have it only appear when a player has a helmet and a ckit.

I think something like this is being worked on for the Minimap, search bugtracker.

It should only be for builders, if it is to be implenmented. This would ruin the days of suprise reactor jumps and sawing eggs while no one is looking. It's up to the players to watch their base, not to have it done for them.

This would be a great idea, but how would aliens have the same ability?  I agree with it being limited to the builders.

How could they not have the same ability?

I think, you could use the construction kit display for this.
A human builder can tag something like 6 buildings and has 6 items on his display: name -> current HP.

The alien builder could have a certain view on OM, Booster and 1 or 2 taggable structures.

1.2.0 definitely needs a little better construction HUD. For example, the structure you're aiming at with ckit should be highlighted and you should get the health bar on your screen.

And I also think that structure blueprints should be visible to everyone even before they're placed. It really sucks when you shove one guy out of your way to build something and another moron steps on the same spot...

having something like htat might clutter up your screen too much. wiht all that stuff, you might have trouble seeing the dretch that would normally be noticeable.

Is that a normal trem command, part of #bb#'s custom qvm, or uncluded with your HUD? (doubt the latter...)

Never seen that before.

I would stick it on the side of the tab menu. That way you dont look at it 24/7

It is in the digimix QVM.

Also, it is CP so it does go away.  Besides, it isn't really needed unless you're on the alien team, and you have an egg spamming team while you build and you wonder how many eggs you have.

I think the fun of sneaking to base goes away if they notice you are there when you start firing. OM and Reactor are fine since you can save them for last
