Here's my try at making a suggestion thread.
Should I be booking a funeral now, or will you cremate me for free?
The hovel is a waste of time.
Its a free barricade, and used as such, as therefore is never used for its real purpose, defending grangers. (Maybe because the grangers are all out attacking?)
So I suggest the hovel is removed, and the OM gains the ability to shelter grangers.
That or say the hovel has to be built within a short range of the OM, like the range for devolving to a granger in the balance mod.

Hovels would be used for protecting grangers if they could actually take a beating. As it stands now you're better of fleeing than hiding in there waiting for your doom. Once it actually is a real safehouse in moderate assaults it will be used by the granger.

hovels would be usefull if they allowed grangers to hide in them and fire super granger spit balls from them.

Off the top of my head.
Granger enter hovel> Hovel HP*10. start with something weak like 150 which a full rifle clip can blow easy, granger enters hovel. 1500 hp. 4 normal pulse clips or 6 fully charged luci blasts. Just an example which would need balancing.
But tbh all this speculation is getting useless since we only know a few things the devs have changed for sure. We don't know if they have or have not changed something already. A simple list with subject- changed/unchanged/not yet changed(need ideas) would suffice :(

Honestly, I have never once used the Hovel for its real purpose. I have never used it as a safe haven against human attacks. In fact, as a Granger, I would run back further into the base and evolve to Dretch so I could help fight back. Sometimes if it's impossible to evolve to Dretch, I actually fight, if winning is possible(granger slice headshot against unhelmeted human for a kill).

Anyway for once I actually agree - the Hovel is a bit pointless in its current form.

All of the gameplay changes already implemented are up on tjw's server. Anything you haven't yet heard on TremRadio (http://www.tremulous.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3718) is too minor or speculative to mention yet. Some graphical changes have been more or less completed too, but you'll have to wait to see those (require a client-side update).
To be honest I'd completely forgotten about the hovel. Suffice to say it's a really low priority. I don't have any ideas for it either.

All I would really have to say about it is,
Same HP - Can withstand 1.5 full lucy shots.
Fix bugging - Error on ATCS on ramp.
defense mechanism - Acid, spikes, what ever.
New creep object - Hovel has smaller creep range then egg or OM, but it does not need a egg/om to be built.

does it really matter? i used to use this bug in creative ways pretty often, but pretty much everyone knows about it, and they always shoot at the real location of the turret/hovel/egg/whatever

No it really doesn't.
However, It is a turn off to most player to see a game filled with glitches, even small ones like this.

Ok I only found one use for the hovel and its for an uber glitch... next time im on darklurkers lair maybe ill glitch the hovel again to piss off Quakin XD Ill record a demo... it explodes insanely than humans cant go by it or they meet their doom.

that sounds like a best idea :)
You could make it a granger escape path. Especially on maps where the aliens can be trapped in their base effectivly during an attach. On nexus with the long narrow hallways leading into the alien default grangers cant escape effectivly.

We really don't want aliens to have any easier a time escaping and rebuilding.

atleast give it creep and let it be built instead of an egg in a minibase >_> I hate the possibility of a feeder egg when testing new forward bases.

i like the idea of makign it a manned turret XD. granger enters it and can shoot barbs or something. 3 in stock (like adv goon), but regens barbs faster.

Hovels should have giant legs, and a cannon that shoots huge balls of acid, that when the acid balls explode, they shower the humans in acid and bees, and the bees sting the humans, and the acid forms creep on the floors, and the hovel becomes a giant tank of doom.
But it requires 2 grangers, a gunner and a driver.

Oh, and it has to stay at 0 sentience.
To balance this, humans can have a 10bp 'barricade' that can live through 4 goon barbs.

And THAT people is the reason why you should ALWAYS add a smiley of some kind when you make some sarcastic comment on the web :)

I don't see what it would improve, human bases already behave exactly like that in most games :)

You want a Force-field generator?
Have a Tesla with 0 damage, short range (~200), and crazy high knock-back.
Unfortunately, it has 50 hp, to compensate for its melee invincibility.
To fix the Hovel, make it have double hp when it has a Granger inside.
Hard, crunchy outside, but a creamy Granger filling.
