Hi, I've been unable to run Tremulous on my laptop, I keep getting an error from the system console. I've tried to fix the problem myself but failed horrible  . I've searched up similar problems on the Tremulous forum but the solutions to the other peoples problems didn't work for me. Anyways, the error is this.

GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem
I'm using a dell latitude. It's running Widows XP service pack 2. My sorry excuse of a video card is a ATI Mobility 128 AGP 2X (DELL). I hope one of you can help me solve this error. Thanks.
-
try updating your graphic card driver

Try using the search function

searching for "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem "
get the first result as the FAQ. which has the answer in it.

As you see "Thorn".. xD, I've already said that I've searched. Try finding my graphics card. I couldn't and I highly doubt any of you could on this forum anyways :D. Oh well, I'll give up Tremulous on my shitty laptop. ^_^ :armoury: :barricade: :advmarauder: :acidtube:   :O D:    :P  :-? 8) :x :o :( :) :D

... Try finding my graphics card. I couldn't and I highly doubt any of you could on this forum anyways ...
Since you did not tell us where to look for your card, you are undoubtedly right. But then again we dont have your problem.
Or you could do a real post, without so much log that does tell us nothing and start telling us a) what card you are using b) what card you lost, so we might help you finding it...
-
Hey Caveman, if you would have read my post from the start all the way through to the end. You would have seen this at the bottom.
"I'm using a dell latitude. It's running Widows XP service pack 2. My sorry excuse of a video card is a ATI Mobility 128 AGP 2X (DELL). I hope one of you can help me solve this error. Thanks."
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Later.

Since that piece is not a real gfx-card, my post still holds true .)
Remember? We are writing the year 2007 where even the low-end cards built into the obscurest no-name laptops have some kind of 3D ...
And I thought you knew, that in order to play tremulous you need to have a working 3D support.
-
Download drivers from ATI website. If they still don't work, buy a new computer.
-
I downloaded a few drivers from ATI's website.. none were compatible that I tried. Of course I knew I needed 3d support for Tremulous, and I think I have it. Mainly because I'm able to play Knight Online, Total Annihilation, Tribes StarSiege and some other things. Knight Onlines graphics seem a bit screwie though.. I had to reinstall windows xp on that laptop to even get it to install Direct x a month or two ago. I'll probably end up having to go with next_ghost's suggestion. Thanks for all the replys though.

try running with this in console/cmd:
tremulous.exe +set r_verbose
then paste the log from the blue window.
-
Okay Sleek, here's the blue screen.

GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

none were compatible that I tried.

Hmm...
maby a stupid question, but is this right??
...calling LoadLibrary( 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\opengl32.dll' ): succeeded
I mean - it loads the Microsoft's generic OGL driver (software rendering and OGL v1.1) instead of the ATI's accelerated one. Or maby it's just the way Trem loads OpenGL under Windows?
-
next_ghost none of those bundles in that link you sent me were compatible.

Those games you listed that work - does any of them use OpenGL?
If you knew that other OpenGL apps work (and can use the hardware acceleration) then you'd be sure that this isn't the driver's problem, but Trem's.
Can you check that?
-
The problem is that his card has NO 3D-acceleration.
The games he listed are pseudo-3D or accept software-3D.
-
Caveman, that means I need a new laptop pretty much right?
-
That would be a good idea if you really want to play on a laptop, something which I really don't advice.
Buying a laptop with the pretext of playing on it raises the requirements and thus the price, not to mention that the laptop will be outdated as soon as you have bought it.
I'd rather recommend getting a "normal" PC where you can change the parts that get outdated :) like the gfx-card.
And you'll usually have to spent no more then halve in order to get a decent PC as compared to a laptop that can run games.
If you still stick to your plan on buying a new laptop, make sure you have a full blown nvidia-gfx-card (not a LE or such), that bring it's own memory and does not need some ram from the laptop.
I recommend nvidia as those are easier to setup/install with all operating systems than the ones from ATI.
For a CPU you should remember that AMD makes pretty fast ones, but the thermal effect is nothing to be trifled with, especially in a laptop.
For a laptop I'd say get a dual-core-intel, for a PC an AMD with an oversized cooler and some extra fans.
And remember with the laptop... you'll need more power, so a second battery will not hurt :)
-
I guess I'll have to get me another desktop, I was only using that laptop for when friends would come over and for lan partys and such.. All it's good for is Total Annihilation I guess lol. Thanks for all the advice though, I'll definitley keep all that you've said in mind when I go shoping for a new comp. Thanks. =o
-
next_ghost none of those bundles in that link you sent me were compatible.
Did the INSTALLER say so or did you ASSUME that from the driver name?
-
It even says so on the site you posted...
Includes All-in-Wonder® 128 PRO, All-in-Wonder® 128, Rage Fury Pro, Rage Fury, Rage Magnum, Xpert 2000 PRO, Xpert 2000, Xpert 128, and Xper 99 products
The "Mobility 128" is closer to the mach64 than to any "128" and has NO 3D-SUPPORT, so discussing the driver is obsolete.
-
I downloaded all of those bundles, and tried to install them all but an error came up and said they weren't compatible.
