Well, there are HUNDREDS of things you can change in mozilla browsers with about config, you can make firefox behave like mac os firefox on windows, windows firefox on linux, etc. Here is a complete list of all the official entries:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Preferences
I changed mine to resize the options window on tab change, to spellcheck single line fields in addition to textareas, to have middle click paste in textareas and url bars (love that feature of nix), and hid the stupid go button.
I also made it so rightclick scripts have no effect.

So what's new about it?

Do this in about config, it will get you much faster speeds. Imo its a requirement.
Go to about:config. Enter http in the filter and hit enter. Look for network.http.pipelining. Double click it so it becomes true. Now look for network.http.pipelining.maxrequests. Double click it and a dialog box will pop up with the number 4 in it. Change this number to 100. Restart firefox. You will notice a high speed increase.

Or, download fasterfox (http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/), and be done.
