Title: Some of the less interesting things to witness in mod making
Post by: DarkStorm on April 23, 2001, 01:42:00 am
The 5 assorted pictures I will post here have an original concept on the shots page.  All of these rifles were created by Psylo.  I can't say enough good things about this boy.

Anyways, I saw his Rifles and fell in love.  So I reworked the images to make them more readable to the eye.  This is a refinement process that makes the leap from concept drawing to model a little less painless.  And while this doesn't quite pop out at you, I thought you guys might enjoy seeing some of the finer details of the Tremulous Development process.

(Translation: I like these pics but I don't think them screenshot page material so you must suffer and witness my uncreative rehashing of a real artist's material.  Behold my evil!)

Why the inconsistency between top and bottom ammunition loading? Wouldn't every weapon be the same, unless it was done for mechanical reasons?

A different variety of guns are cool. They look cool. Cool and easy enough to model, I can put in my Lightwave background.

Many thanks to DarkStorm for this one.

Oh, and the original sketches took me like 10-15 minutes.
So DarkStorm really is the one who did the work. And I'm very happy about it.

Psylo man, you're the greatest (and yeah send me anything that's a rough sketch and I'll outline it for you, Carcinogen says it helps him 'cause he can just put the picture in the background of his modeling program)

What gun would you think should be used in Tremulous for the machinegun and laser rifle?

Lets take a vote

The 3'rd one should be excluded of course, that can be used for, say, a flamethrower.

I have modeled the 1'st, the 2'nd, the and the 5'th. I've started work on the 4'th. So don't say "what have you modelled yet, lets use that so mr. carc doesn't have to work hard to make another one" I don't care, they are all fun as hell and easy as fuck to model thanks to mr. darkstorm here.

I like the second one the bestest.

Second one for machinegun and fourth one for laser the laser rifle (since they probably wouldn't have clips, or at least not recognizable ones).

I think the 5th would make the perfect machinegun (how 'bout that, this is probably the first time I haven't agreed with Norfenstein).  However I have to agree with Norf on the third making a good laser rifle.

Oh and BTW, I have that huge cannon that Psylo concepted outlined (it's actually been done for at least a month).  I'll upload it later, but I'm not sure it will be as easy to model, or as practical a weapon in the game (you'll find out what I mean when I upload the evil thing).

Id chose the 5th one for the standard machinegun. The 3rd and 4th ones look like good candidates for energy weapons. The 1st and 2nd ones look good for heavy automatic weaponry, possibly automatic shotgun? Hell I dunno, Im just trying to post some more in here..

With the the 3rd one i had a gun in mind which shoots giant, armor piercing uraniunm slugs that incenerate the area around the impact(because the kinetic energy is turned to heat when the uranium core hits metal)
the scope is maybe a bit stupid for that weapon...

yeah i know this bumps it up to the top, but as far as actually using the concept art, rather then putting  it out for viewing and artistic pleasure, i love it lol.  Really good for concept art, so easy it'd probably take me 2-5 to finish each gun, vertex by vertex.

Yum

Wheres the tremelous comiC?
