Title: map size and number of players
Post by: player1 on March 30, 2007, 01:32:27 am
What is the number of players you prefer in a game? Is is based on map size? If so, how would you break down the default (and popular non-default) maps by size? Small, medium and large? Which maps belong in which category and what would you say would be the right number of players for each group of maps?

If you don't think the number of players should be related to map size, what factor(s) do you think affect(s) having the 'right' number of players on a server? How many players is too few? How many is too many? Why?

i say it depends. sometimes its map size, sometimes its what you feel like. i most like from 12-20 players though. so 6 vs 6 to 10 vs 10.

On average 6<X<14 on a team is good.

if there are no really green newbies, a 3 on three can be fun. otherwise the more the merrier :)

8 vs. 8 is about as optimal as it gets. I believe Timbo has said somewhere that Tremulous was tested and balanced with a 16 player game in mind.

Yup, i asked him this question some months ago on IRC, and he said the game was meant to be played with 16 players.

That's why i only play with servers with players limit between 12 and 20 players.

Sadly nowadays, with all the big servers which mess with build points, many people now think servers with less than 20 players are too small and then they come here to complain about the balance with examples from their 999 BP and 40+ players server.

I don't like to play more than 10v10. On most servers it just gets too laggy.

A server with a player limit of 24ish is perfect, as an occasional largish game is nice, and it rarely fills up anyway.

I prefer 5v5, or 4v4, somewhere in that neighbourhood.

I personally prefer somewhere between 4v4 and 12v12, so I said 8v8. But would you guys say it has more to do with map size, or just the proper number of players for Trem, since the original maps aren't widely varying in size?

6v6 is good number. Enough to create organized attack but not too many to feed your team to death.

A.T.C.S is only for small encounters. Arachnid is good for 10v10 and up. And thats all I have to say about that
