Title: forum register confirmation code
Post by: blackelf on April 01, 2007, 07:30:13 pm
The confirmation code when registering onto the forums...

Is it aimed on pissing off new users :barricade:  :barricade:  :barricade: ?
Do you really think all evil master minds, hackers, AI devels and Lord Vader are after You and dream of autoregistering onto the forum?

If not, then perhaps the most confusing verification code I've ever seen is not really needed?

What? The registration code is machine readable? Crackers and AI experts can actually crack it?

Captain Obvious, is that you?

You only need to register ONCE. It may be a minor inconvenience, but it's better than nothing. It keeps the majority of spam bots off of the forum. It's useful.

I'll be happy to forward all the automated spam we were receiving in the forum before the confirmation code was implemented directly to your inbox. Or if you want, to your email

Yes,
S E C U R I T Y

Obviously the verification code is needed.

But, this particular code is the most messed up code EVER, low/up letters, meany letters different colors, random sprites in background.

Perhaps more classic code would be enought.

Even SMS web gateways and other important things do not overcomplicate it like that.

Yes, I suppose they do, but those are the ones you're supposed to write, I'm sure of it. That's not too hard, is it?

It seems as though it's common sense to me, although common sense isn't so common anymore, is it?

It was obvious to me the white letters are important.
But if I would been color- blind I would be quite irritated.

Even without this problem I typed the code wrong 2 times, probably mistaken 1 with I or Z with 2.

This is not a very big issue, but since this is the subforum for feedback I am informing that this might be a bit irritating to people which just want to quickly ask a question on the forum.

Registering again to 5487234-th forum there is on the web is already as irritating as it must be.
