Title: HELP! GTKRadient 1.5!
Post by: ShadowNinjaDudeMan on April 07, 2007, 06:29:11 pm
Hello, I am at the end of my wits (nothing new there).
For weeks I have been trying to get GTKRadient 1.4 up and running, I have followed the tremmapping wiki TO THE DOT.

But it just doesnt work.

Please Please Please, give me some advice, this is driving me MAD! (nothing new there either)

If anyone knows of anything that could help me, perhaps premade GTKRadient 1.4 complete with supplementary files, it would be greatly appreciated.
Advice is also a God send.

The problem starts when I first open GTK, it says there are no files (trem.game, q3.game etc)
But I have placed the trem.game in the correct folder and all.

WTH is wrong with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You dont need 50 bazillion exclamation marks

Oh, but I do

What is the path of your Tremulous folder? For example, C:/Program Files/Tremulous.

*tries hard not to write down words that would make a sailor blush*

Superpie. Please. Shut. Up.
If. You. Are. Not. Going. To. Help. Me.
Please. Go. Away.

I. Am. Feeling. Murderous.

And. Im. Not. Joking.

Next person who tries to make a joke here will be flamed, sworn at and generally abused in any way I can possibly think of.
I AM ABSO-FCKIN-LUTELY PISSED OFF TO MY WITS END, THE BLOODY THING JUST DOES NOT WORK AND I HAVE A DISTINCT URGE TO BEAT MY COMPUTER TO A PULP.

SO STFU OR HELP ME, BOTH WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

FFS I JUST WANT TO OPEN THE DAMN THING AND CREATE A MAP>
I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH THIS THING FOR NEARLY A YEAR NOW, AND HAVE WANTED  TO CREATE A TREM MAP FOR LONGER THAN THAT.

GTK PISSES ME OFF, AND I JUST NEED SOME HELP. I AM TIRED, UPSET AND IN DANGER OF JUST CRYING. IM AM SO DESPERATE.

Does anyone know how to change what kind of game you are editing while GTK is open. I am in W:ET by accident, and I want to try to change to trem, but I dont know how.

I WILL MURDER ANYONE WHO MAKES A JOKE ABOUT THIS, BECAUSE I AM ON THE VERGE OF A MENTAL BREAKDOWN, AND I APOLOGIZE TO ANY ADMINS OR MODS IN ADVANCE BECAUSE I THINK THAT I MIGHT BE KICKED BEFORE I GET THE CHANCE TO APOLOGIZE AFTER I EXPLODE.

Thank you all, on the other hand, I will worship you as another God if you successfully help me. Even if you try to help me, at least I will feel as though some1 cares and that they dont read this topic and think "noob".

Cheers.

Please reply soon.

Im begging you, please help me. Im am so desperate and upset, angry and on the verge of tears!

Because obviously we can help if we don't even get to know what's wrong.
Where does it break down? Startup?, install? can't find trem in game list? Be a bit more specific please because we can't just crawl into your computer and see the problem ourselves.

If you did the install correctly you can change the game by going to edit>preferences in the menu (shortcut key P). Now in the globals menu there is a submenu 'game settings' where you can select the game you want. Tremulous should be in this list.

If not.
http://tremmapping.pbwiki.com/GtkRadiant1_4-Win32
Check out the .game section and make sure that you corrected the paths to yours and didn't save as trem.game.txt but as trem.game. The file should also be located in the GtkRadiant-1.4/games directory.

Thank you for answering that question about how to change games.

But tremulous is still not in the list, and everything seems correct, I really dont know what is going on?!

Check the bold. If those do not apply then post your trem.game file's location, the paths to where you installed radiant and the path to where you installed tremulous.

Hmm, i don't know about any compatibility of radiant with vista but most programs that worked on xp should work on vista by default iirc. Especially since you can start it. So i don't think that's a problem.

Everything is present and corrected, file paths, the bold, everything, I have spent a year trying to do this, Ive exhausted that possibility.

Btw, Im now trying 1.5.

I changed it, and look, glorius, Tremulous was in the drop down menu!
I will share this moment with you all:

(http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/9154/screenbw1.th.jpg) (http://img383.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenbw1.jpg)

But then my system remembered it was crap and hated my guts and a window saying GTKRadient.exe has stopped working. Windows is searching for a solution to this.

Bah, any ideas?

Did you follow the steps after .game in the wiki?

Quote
The ".game" directory

GtkRadiant 1.5 will look for files in a directory with the same name as your .game file. In this case it will be looking in GtkRadiant-1.5/trem.game/. Create this directory. The files that GtkRadiant looks for in this directory can be downloaded in a zip file here.

This zip file contains:

    * game.xlink: Links to mapping related documentation.
    * default_build_menu.xml: Default compile strings for GtkRadiant's Build menu.
    * entities.def: Entity definition file with all the tremulous specific entities.
    * default_shaderlist.txt: Lists all the shaders to be loaded by the editor and q3map2.

Extract this archive to GtkRadiant-1.5/.

If everything is in the right place you should find game.xlink and default_build_menu.xml in GtkRadiant-1.5/trem.game/ while entities.def' and default_shaderlist.txt should be in GtkRadiant-1.5/trem.game/base/.

Common files

Because GtkRadiant does not natively support Tremulous, there are a number of necessary files missing. These files can be downloaded in a zip file here or here.

This zip file contains:

    * entities.def: Entity definition file with all the tremulous specific entities.
    * common-spog.pk3: Contains all the editor images for the common shaders.
    * common.shader: All the common shaders, caulk, nonsolid, nodraw, etc.
    * shaderlist.txt: Lists all the shaders to be loaded by the editor and q3map2.

Extract this archive to Tremulous/base/.

If everything is in the right place you should find common-spog.pk3 in Tremulous/base/. The rest of the files, entities.def', common.shader and shaderlist.txt, should be in Tremulous/base/scripts/.

Newer versions have better Vista support.

Download the last one: http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/files/radiant/nightly/1.5/GtkRadiant-1.5.0-2007-03-08-GODFATHER.msi

And read http://tremulous.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=52521 to know how to configure the extra files correctly. Hope it will help a bit.

However there is always a black box with a white dot in the centre of it in the screens on the grid. Other than that, all screens are just black.

Is there a setting which can deqactivate this?

Try with other settings at Edit menu -> Preferences -> Display -> Textures -> "Hardware Texture Compression" or "Texture Render Mode". Change those options and see if some work. If it stays black, I would say your Graphic drivers might have some problem... especially with OpenGL.

[Press "O" to show your Console and see if Gtk detect your GL_RENDERER correctly during its startup (that should show your graphic card name)]
