ok now we all know that playing as an alien gives another view when looking, you can see longer.
I once played trem a whole night when the others was sleeping, at a netparty, for 8 hours straight only alien.
Then after these 8 hours I noticed my normal noobhumanvision was weird, it was slightly better.
Has anyone encountered this strange phenomenom?
-
I think you should try sleeping more
-
lol ^
-
I belive this happens to players who play many hours strait in the begining. It goes away pretty fast ^^
Although being high might have something to do with it. -.-''
-
i had laughing gas once, that was crazy :D
one of the symptoms of motion sickness is strange eyesight, 8 hours without a break is something only Trained Professionals should do.
-
What are "aspergers" people?
-
Well, after I played aliens continuously for about six hours I kept speed-crawling on all fours while trying to pounce onto my housemate's heads before I realized that I was noobhuman again.
I sometimes notice that normal vision feels a little odd after playing with a wide FOV (>=120) for prolonged periods.

Dretches have views that could be considered "fish-eye" views.
-
Hmm...
1. Difficulty reading the social and emotional messages in the eyes - People with AS don't look at eyes often, and when they do, they can't read them.
CHECK
2. Making literal interpretation - AS individuals have trouble interpreting colloquialisms, sarcasm, and metaphors.
CHECK
3. Being considered disrespectful and rude - prone to egocentric behavior, individuals with Asperger's miss cues and warning signs that this behavior is inappropriate.
CHECK (improved though)
4. Honesty and deception - children with Asperger's are often considered "too honest" and have difficulty being deceptive, even at the expense of hurting someone's feelings.
CHECK
5. Becoming aware of making social errors - as children with Asperger's mature, and become aware of their inability to connect, their fear of making a social mistake, and their self-criticism when they do so, can lead to social phobia.
CHECK (first part; usually no social phobia)
6. A sense of paranoia - because of their inability to connect, persons with Asperger's have trouble distinguishing the difference between the deliberate or accidental actions of others, which can in turn lead to a feeling of paranoia.
Nope
7. Managing conflict - being unable to understand other points of view can lead to inflexibility and an inability to negotiate conflict resolution. Once the conflict is resolved, remorse may not be evident.
Nope
8. Awareness of hurting the feelings of others - a lack of empathy often leads to unintentionally offensive or insensitive behaviors.
CHECK
9. Repairing someone's feelings - lacking intuition about the feelings of others, people with AS have little understanding of how to console someone or how to make them feel better.
Sometimes
10. Recognizing signs of boredom - inability to understand other people's interests can lead AS persons to be inattentive to others. Conversely, people with AS often fail to notice when others are uninterested.
CHECK (become better though)
11. Introspection and self-consciousness - individuals with AS have difficulty understanding their own feelings or their impact on the feelings of other people.
Not really
12. Clothing and personal hygiene - people with AS tend to be less affected by peer pressure than others. As a result, they often do what is comfortable and are unconcerned about their impact on others.
CHECK (having a girlfriend to tell you what to buy helps)
13. Reciprocal love and grief - since people with AS have difficulty emotionally, their expressions of affection and grief are often short and weak.
Nope, not even close
14. Understanding of embarrassment and faux pas - although persons with AS have an intellectual understanding of embarrassment and faux pas, they are unable to grasp concepts on an emotional level.
CHECK
15. Coping with criticism - people with AS are compelled to correct mistakes, even when they are made by someone in a position of authority, such as a teacher. For this reason, they can be unwittingly offensive.
Ooooh YES - CHECK!
16. Speed and quality of social processing - because they respond through reasoning and not intuition, AS individuals tend to process social information more slowly than the norm, leading to uncomfortable pauses or delays in response. This means that although the AS individual will tend to make a more reasoned and balanced understanding and/or decision, it can lead to the AS individual being told to use their 'common sense' to solve problems, a concept they cannot understand or use in the way a neurotypical person can.
CHECK
17. Exhaustion - as people with AS begin to understand theory of mind, they must make a deliberate effort to process social information. This often leads to mental exhaustion.
CHECK :-(
Interesting stuff. Hadn't known about this...
-
were kind of getting off topic here
-
True, sorry.
-
its an interesing discussion though, it might be more due to the human brain learning to cope with the difficulty of seeing and overcompensating accordingly... im no anthropologist so i wouldn't know
-
yeah, that happens to me at LAN parties all the time.
bind a key to toggle /r_lightmap 1/0 if you don't want to wait for the super-human vision to kick in.
-
zomg 8h... lightweight :P

What are "aspergers" people?
Asperger syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome)
-
Actually the human brain is more versatile in these regards than commonly thought. For example, if you wear goggles that put your vision upside-down, it will only be a couple of days before your brain adjusts and corrects it. As a matter of fact, every infant“s brain has to do it once because the eyes do see upside down.
-
You havn't gone aspergers. If you had you would know about it. The internet is full of people who diagnose themselves after reading a few symptoms - they are commonly referred to as "assburgers" on the ground of them being stupid and trying to make up for any percieved inadequacy they have in relation to other people.
People with real aspergers can be a nightmare to know. Oh and that long numbered list seems to alternate between being symptoms, and being "anti-symptoms". for example
Sometimes
Those are things that NORMAL people have and aspergers suffers dont. If you've said check for that you are extremely unlikely to be an aspergers sufferer.
not to mention
having a girlfriend
Thats extremely difficult for the average sufferer for pretty obvious reasons.
-
Shoosh, thanks for clearing that up for me Henners. Now I can peacefully live on :D

He is not saying all googles do, he saying if you found some that did.
-
Actually I'm saying there _are_ such googles, or you can make some yourself.
@E-Mxp: Ever tried looking at a candle through a needle-sized hole in a cornflakes box?

Googles or Goggles?!?!? lawl
-

I really dont want to brag, and I know this will make me sound pompus - dont take it that way - but I...er...well, I play about 8 hours a day, often surpassing this. Surely I would know if there were side effects to such activities.
*Jumps out of window because he spawned with wrong weapon*
No, but seriously, have you heard something I havent ?!
I need to know !!
EDIT_1: But its not Tremulous I dedicate so much time to - its my PS3.

Strange. After reading your post, I'm pretty sure I suffer from assburgeritis. I tried balancing a hot dog on my head, but it just fell off and didn't cure me.

@E-Mxp: Ever tried looking at a candle through a needle-sized hole in a cornflakes box?
No, why should I. Looks a bit unnecessary. I will try it :D
Edit: :( (tried)
-
WTF! Was I supposed to take the needle out before I put my eye up to it? :x

I'm wondering that myself.

For those who are wondering what this pin-hole candle viewing milarky is all about, here's some explanation:
Imagine the tiny hole in a piece of paper/card that light can pass through. There is also surface a few cm behind the hole. In front of the hole is an illuminated object.
Now, the light that is entering the hole from a high angle (from the top of the object) will be recieved by a low part of the surface behind the hole. Any light reflected from a lower part of that object that makes it though the hole would be recieved on a higher part of that surface.
This might give you some idea of what happens in your eye. The only reason you can see an image at all is because of this. The result is that retina receiving the image upside-down (in fact it is rotated since the same effect occurs for the left and right of the image). Your brain's interpretation of the signals from the retina develops with experience. We're effiecent at adapting as babies but can still adapt at later ages.
If you ever want to try adapting to upside-down goggles.. beware. When you've adjusted to the goggles you'll see things upside-down with the goggles OFF. It'll also mess you up a bit (sickness and confusion). Fortunately these effects will only be temporary.. unless you forget your goggles and forget that you can fall off of something above you now.
