do you think there should be new nades?
here is one of my ideas
nano grenade: acts like a one attack hive for humans! you throw it and any enemy in sight is chased by nano bots!(if you don't know what it is google it!)
post other ideas! (form of nade for alians would be great!)

carrys 3, costs as much as a flamer and shows up at s3

nade launcher, good idea. Since a normal nade is already in the game and a launcher will only increase its launch range, why not ?
nano nade, not so good idea. We'll need to test how it works and rebalance the whole game. Unless you do it yourself don't expect anything to happen. Not like the first idea is guaranteed to be worked on. It's just less work and more probable to happen.
posting your random idea on the forum and treating it like your own blog, priceless.
Here are a few suggestions:
1) The coders will ask for your ideas when they do actually need your ideas.
2) If you think you do have an interesting idea and want to see it done, do post a new thread. We might tell you how you can do it, and you have to code it yourself. The possibility of it going mainstream is almost 0 though. So you'll end up with an unpure thing.
3) If you have an idea but you don't care if it's implemented or not, hmm maybe you don't need to post it here. I know there are some really good ones in your mind and you can't really code it, but most of the time they're just some random pure bullshit to us.
As a collection to my statistics, may I know your age please ? This will help very much in my research. Thank you.

nade launcher looks fine.
no need of new weapon, just some way you could trow your nade much further that now would be fine...
maybe all we need is this: when you select your nade, the aim-pointer (don't know the term in english, sry) changes, the guy keeps a position like in americas-army:

then all we need is timing:
1-mouse-key-1 -> normal launch: 5 secs and nade blows up
2-mouse-key-2 -> alt-launch: keep pressed and timer starts, release and trows nade.
that way you can prevent aliens escaping from nades.
also, launching could work like americas amy launch:
1-activate nade (you may insert a 1-sec delay), but timing does not starts. you can keep pressed mouse-key-1 'till you want, nade will blow just 5 sec AFTER LAUNCHED.
2-activate-nade (1 sec delay), timing starts. keep it too much and you blow up

this could translate into biles blowing after 5-10 sec with mouse1-press or blowing immediately with mouse2-press

3 nades + rifle clip = 900 damage + something around 150 = instakilled om.
I dont think that that can be balanced properly.

You think the aliens will let you in their base with that thing?
Aliens will be able to jump in the way of the nades and block them, just like normal nades, but easier because they will be flying straighter and higher.
Also, I assume there would be a reasonable wait between nading.
3 clips, one round per clip, that means a reload (defenceless, the rifle part is down too) after every shot.

1) Sometimes you don't know you want something until you have it. Perhaps we'll be working on some vaguely interesting mod idea, fully occupied and not asking for anything else, when suddenly someone comes up with an easy-to-implement and undeniably fun idea. It's not like we have limited internets that are being used up by everyone posting every damn stupid thought that comes into their heads. If it wasn't for all the flaming people seem to think is necessary, such things would take perhaps 5 seconds to skim over and discard.
2) Maybe you'll end up with a new feature for someone's game.qvm, or for someone's downloadable mod, that can go into use immediately, even if it isn't absorbed into the mainstream codebase. Maybe not all the people with good ideas are good coders, and maybe not all coders have good ideas. Again, there are plenty of spare internets to go around.
3) Or maybe you can post it after all, and not worry about whose precious time is wasted because they are forced to read your horrible blatherings.

How about, um, ya know, giving the aliens a grenade, before, um, you beef up the humans. Humans are already too powerful. 2 teams of equal strength and skill, humans almost always win.

Looks good, could stand to be about 1.25 times the size of the normal maurader though, it's a little too big now.

Please don't cite that in response to every new idea. Since I made that post, several people have persuaded me that there are a lot of threads in the Mods section that really don't deserve to be there. The only thing I responded to here was the model - the work which is the start of a mod. I'd really like to see and use that model (and possibly the alien one too) and try to code a new human weapon/alien class into tremulous (so far my portfolio is one new admin command, one semi-new human buildable, and one semi-new console command). I wouldn't really like to read a four-line post about how there should be more x or less y. I've heard that many potential coders or old members have simple given up on these forums because of the generally low quality of posts, and it's unfair to ask them just to ignore so much of it. While I am still of the opinion that you shouldn't be expected to code everything that you come up with,
By the way, the reason I'm not worried about balancing it is because a) as I said above, it'd largely be for my own curiousity in code, and b) most things can be balanced one way or another, c.f. lucifer cannon takes out any enemy in 2 shots maximum, tyrant swipe does ~100dps, these things are balanced because of their counters and super-high costs.

Either make the fire mara a little smaller, or increase its health. And what would the price of a grenade launcher be?

I'd say make the fire mara about the size of a +mara, perhaps it can replace the +mara in some mod. Flames for a fire mara shouldnt do self damage.
I think the nade launcher could sit at the (imo) reasonable price of 500c. It's drawbacks would make up for the low price in the long run.

Fire mara is a good idea, but i dont know how it could fit into the whole organic motif of the aliens. A chemical or acid spraying mara would rock. The electricity from a basic marauder even fits with this organic ideal, because there are animals that can generate quite a large amount of energy, and use it to hunt. Maby a neurotoxin spraying marauder. Kills an unarmored human in 3 secs, battlesuit only if they use a medpack, and that just prevents one, not chains.

i use 3dsmax with the 3dsmax script. you can find the models in your trem/base/dat.pk3. it opens with winrar.

honestly, what 350(?) splash damage projectile should be thrown more than a few feet?
i dont get why you people are so hung up on rl stuff. if it was rl there wouldnt be aliens or energy weapons.

Well, if you buff grenades...aliens need to spray acids when they get killed. More damage based on size.

as far as i understood it the buyable nades where incendiary grenades, kind of wierd that they explode instead of burn fiercely. as to the problem of the grenade launcher bullets traveling at around 2000 meters a second do very little damage to a tyrant, you think softer, smaller and slower traveling bits of shrapnel are going to do much good against anything other than dretches and basilisks?
Edit: thats assuming that the grenades launched are HE ones rather than the afore mentioned version

Yes that would be really good. Like what marine can only stuff one grenade in their belt.
Flaming maras...seems to be cool.
Nade launchers would be fun but i bet base TKers would have a field day with it launching nades from the other side.

WE NEED TO MAKE MARINES MORE REALISTIC AND MAKE IT SO THAT HE CAN DOUBLE WEILD WEAPONS AND USE 2 GUNS AT ONCE AND CAN CHUCK GRENADES HALFWAY ACROSS THE MAP. AND THEN WE SHOULD ALSO MAKE THEM MORE REALISTIC BY MAKING THEM HAVE POTTY BREAKS TOO. THEN WE COULD INCLUDE TVS AND RADIOS IN THE BASES, WE COULD INCLUDE COMPUTERS AND INTERWEBS, WE COULD EVEN INCLUDE GIRLS. TREM NEEDS TO BE MORE REALISTIC!

relax dude, i was just pointing out a mistake in your sig that you might want to fix. i realize that throwing a nade farther might unbalance trem a bit, but it just frustrates me when i press the nade button and it just drops a few feet in front of me.

throwing nades is NOT very nice for Tremulous.
Aliens are close ranged.
but then throwing nades will be long ranged.
And so all you have to do is throw your nade into alien base and run as fast as you can. Whooo
