Title: Relic Mod - By Risujin

This mod involves numerous little upgrades that you can find throughout a map. Things such as, Radiation, Spray and Pay, A/G Boots etc etc.


But, the only thing I have noticed about this, when you download via autodownload, it will not allow you to go into some other servers  D:

There may be a server that is running relic mod out of the base folder. Yell at whoever is running it, that server is not properly configured! (... and no, mine is configured right.)

Well, I searched all through my base folder, as well as my base2 folder.

None of my PK3s are in your base folder. Your problems are most likely caused by interference from the TJW and MG VM and data PK3s. Delete them and the "common-" PK3s.

the regen relic should work faster on aliens, it's more of a liability than anything ATM. Ideally, I should be able to strafe a base, hang back a bit (without leaving the scene entirely) and go right back on strafing at full health.

It is fair though ... you can no longer heal normally with the Vampire relic.

Could you change the "Ice" to skates? So your speed would be lot higher but you would always move like on slick shader.

Yea I have got this mod running for GoDz server and I got it where you can download off server, but you have to have downloads enabled.

Risujin,

What do you think about taking some of the better Relics (Antigrav, Radiation, Vampire & DamageX), nerfing some of the bad side effects, buffing the efficiency and making them available to the Aliens, while giving the Humans some new weapons?

whitebear's got some starter models going on the nades thread.

Aliens get Relics for Multikill, Headshot, Humiliation, Dreadnought. Humans get Weapons when at least two-thirds of team has crossed Alien 'build line'. Weapons: Plasma Mortar, Plasma Gatling Cannon, SpiderBot Launcher, EMProxMine Launcher. Multikill: must kill three Humans within thirty seconds. Headshot: must damage Human in head, causing death in one blow. Humiliation: must kill one Human two stages above twice in two minutes. Dreadnought: must kill at least half of the players on the Human team at least once each. Effects last three minutes or until dead. Antigrav is jumpboost, not flying. Radiation causes damage mostly to Humans, slightly to fellow Aliens. Vampire allows attacker to replenish health by damaging foe. DamageX is a slight damage increase (x1.25).

Nah. damage, vampire, radiation & antigrav are main relics used in UT2k4 and they are most fun unless you count mini size relic (wich is not in trem)

and you should change the relic mod 4 to relic mod 5 because I tried to look for number 4 but all there was number 5 in the link.
And whenever I try to join Godz relic, I have to wait for 5 min downloading relic mod #4.

- cant build at the emplacement of a relic
- relic appears with reload sound (cliclic), a "pop" will suit better :)

Relics don't make an appearance sound. What you hear is probably the old relic disappearing. I guess I could fix the sound though. Player disconnect pop though..?

I deleted all those, and it doesnt work.

I deleted everything to do with relic, and I have the same message but it's domination.

I delete everything to do with domonation and the startup console gives me a UI failed to load message.

Arrgh! They fixed the SuperDrive but disabled my Bluetooth! Idiots!! I still can't try Relics.

I now have Bluetooth again. Yay. I DL'd the HoRmod today and even played a "single-player" round on ATCS. That "last relic you'll ever pick up" is nasty. Does it just last for that spawning? When have people been playing? Let me know when you'll be on, or when it usually has players, and I'll check it out. It looks really fun. I like how enemy buildables pop out Relics. I can't wait to see enemy players do that. The default bases were crazy. The human one was one smoking node, the reactor, and one turret on the lower level pointing up at the Human base. The Alien one was crammed with acid tubes (like 7), and had about 3 eggs, plus the OM. As a Human builder I had 82 bp remaining at original spawning. Did you tweak out every map like that or did I wander onto your server after some other player left? Looks cool. Let's play.

PlayerOne likes a little variety
especially in mods for games which are mods themselves

Goomba uses the fall damage calculation method with a higher constant multiplier. For aliens, having more max-hp makes you heavier and for humans the bsuit makes you as heavy as a tyrant. Drop a longer distance to do more damage.

This is wrong. I think one of the relic servers is not configured properly. Probably the Godz one which is still running version 4!

If you are looking to fill a server, please go to QuakeNet IRC and spam either #tremulous or #mercenariesguild. Its the only way we get Domination games going. :)

I annihilated an entire human base with the goomba relic, the reactor was a bit over a goon's height beneath the cieling and I pounced on it and near-instantly blew it up.

Just for the hell of it Ima say that at the moment I'm using the Kororaa distro I downloaded and I love it . . .

I have updated the GoDz server to version 6 of Risujin's Relic mod and it is correctly installed and you do not have to re-download the mod everytime you enter the server.  So the server has been updated to 10 players with 2 private slots, and hopefully you guys will have a great time in there.

So thank you Risujin for setting the server up correctly.

I think you should be able to drop them... I can give you the list of ones that should be able to be dropped... and they're supposed to be either weaker, and no downsides, or stronger, and downsides... Right now they are a bit too weak for the bad sides they give...

You can control how many relics of each type (including the unknown relic) spawn via the g_relic* cvars. Go to http://risujin.org/tremulous#relic for the full list. You can also set up per-map settings with g_mapConfigs (see the Domination layouts zip for an example).

We played today with about ten or twelve people on. Niveus. Funny as all get out. I like the little trails. Khalsa, who said the mod sucks, was healing me incessantly with a flamethrower, with little hearts flowing out of his avatar like it was Valentine's Day. Then he or Bringer was luci-healing the base. Echo: "Our Base is Under Attack!!". No, it's not, it's the flamer/painsaw/luci-healers. LOL'd. A lot.

We really need a way to prevent auto picking up relics when we already own one. Our players are so pissed off for the fact that they have to move while dodging the relics around them if they want to keep theirs. We need to be able to set a button for replacing relics so we can have less worry about picking up heal or ice out of nowhere.

Also, vampire relic is overpowered when used with chaingun or luci, you basically never die with it. 1 person can pretty much take out an alien base with 150bp if the vampire falls into the hand of a good human player.

And, something has to be done about invisible so that people can't use it to run away as the last resort and force a draw game. (Add a time limit for that maybe?)

I think the point of the relic mod is to force a dynamic changing game, if you don't want to lose your relic, don't walk into another one.  If you can dodge aliens/humans, you can walk around a relic.

Right, but there are also times that randomness kills the whole game. For once someone was using heal relic to repair his own base with nade and luci in SD and he suddenly got his relic replaced after dropping a nade and destroyed his own armoury.

To keep the game dynamic we can have a time limit on owning a relic so that people have to try different relics and can't just keep their favorite relic for life. Also things would be a lot more balanced that way. I just afked near the human base for dinner with invisible and after I came back I was still alive. I found myself with full evo and my team s3 so that I evolved into adv.goon (still invisible) and destroyed 2 armouries at once. Pretty lame if you ask me, but possible.

We could have new bind:
/+RelicToss
and server command to disable it:
/g_RelicToss 1/0

By default evil relic could not be tossed and it disapeared after 60 secs

Well, I would like a new bind for picking up a relic rather than tossing one. Tossing isn't really that good to the relic game play as people will always toss the relic they don't like and only 3 or 4 types of relic will be used. I want to see people fighting in both favorable and unfavorable condition and make use of every relics they can find in the game.

Rather, what I am suggesting is a bind to swap relic just to get rid of the annoyance of having relic swapped unintentionally and need to spend 2 seconds just to swap it back, this "feature" doesn't change anything but is just annoying.

And for the game to be really dynamic, I suggest to have every relic to disappear after a certain time, like 60 seconds, so people actually have to move around the map to find relics and re-newing them. There are just too much jet campers with x2 and invisible goon behind corners making the camping problem even worse. They just never lose their relics and have no need to move. It is even better to be able to set the time server-side for a relic on a player to disappear and players have a timer to show the time left for a relic to expire.

Invisible should be more like "chameleon" rather than "cloaking". It should be more visible while moving and less visible while being stationary...

1. Adv.goon with ammo relic can save up to 6 barbs and still have them after swapping another relic. I just have 6 barbs with x2 and insta-killed a reactor 8)
2. The resurrection relic can be used to "telefrag" people if you resurrect while someone walk on you (invade personal space) and human has no ammo after resurrection, which is useless for human to have this relic as he is likely to double-feed.

btw, according to our players, the immune relic is less than being bad just to avoid picking up ice and reverse in the heat of battle. :D

Immunity is far from being bad considering there are so many bad relics out there. Ice, reverse, low gravity, builder etc can cost you if you pick them up during the heat of battle. Since most relics has negative effect to compensate its positive effect, it is not really that different to be with or without one..I would rather pick up an immune relic and steal a base since I always pick up "bad" relics when I destroy a structure. It is also annoying to find that I can't raid an empty base because there are bad relics blocking the entrance..

I just invaded two people's personal space with tyrant and resurrection relic today. Dying right on the medi and killed 2. Great fun.  8)

In UT2k4 resurection relic works bit difrently. It spawns you from random spawn point with same loadout. This means no kill or death is counted by game.
For dummies: You teleport to spawnpoint and gain full health when you are about to die.

At about 66% of the first loading bar in tremulous, after joining the relic server, by computer boots me out saying something along the lines of only uncompressed BMP files...etc.

I'm on gentoo, so this could be a shared library missing or something, but i don't think so.

any ideas as to why i can't connect?

My server runs g_relic 12. And relics can be sometimes at place that is hard to avoid. The main problem is that I often get my relic swapped at the enemy base when I was busy fighting structures. It seems destroyed buildings generate relics and they could serve as good...roadblocks.
Avoid auto picking up and tossing a relic are very different. People should always find a relic to replace his own if he doesn't want it, but not the ability to toss every relics he doesn't like. I just want to see replacing a relic could be done on one's own rather than auto just to have a more "natural" game play. I mean, I can't even walk in a straight line just to avoid some relics?..

It is easy to spot when people pay enough attention to every corners of the map. What I don't like is that people can keep picking up his invisible back after he camped someone at the corner.

The two times I had got this was when I was using luci. I am sure I didn't die without ammo, I just wanted to go deep into alien base and lay down there to make a surprise attack, then I found myself having no ammo after resurrection..I resurrected with ammo with chaingun though, probably weapon specific.

The speed relic would be extremely overpowered if downside would be credits. It's basicly double damage if rate is doubled and possibility to hit is lot higher. With damage downside it would be considered but people don't want the relic since you need more ammo.

For the speed relic you can always take down damage, credits, and / or your health decreases every time you fire or something...

Cmon bitch think of a better super-evil relic... You could come up with a relic that drains health from everything (including team mates) And gives you 1 HP per every 3 HP stolen from everything, or make it 1 HP per every 5) but the downside is you cannot heal any other way, and your damage is decreased by 1.5 that sounds fair right? or 1/2

Anyway smart ass think of a better idea. The real failure after all is having NO ideas... atleast i tried u douche

In the situation I described (previous page) it's a real cheap relic; a blaster could own a rant by translocating it into a wall or, better yet, into a base.

First of all, i love this mod. yesterday, i've been playing on your server for a couple of hours and i loved it :D.
Plague was very funny (people tend to share the pain with their team) and the tiny relic made it possible to get into places you shouldn't have been.

Although there is a bug, if plague spreads to a dretch, it doesn't get damaged. I love this myself because the whole alien team (me included) were all dretches and infected with plague and the only thing they had 2 do was to infect a human and it kept them busy for a couple of minutes :P.

Btw, would it be possible to make a giant relic. The relic doubles your size and health but halfs your jumping height and makes it impossible to reach a couple of places (think about vents and stuff).
What do you think?

maybe a standard size, just a tadbit bigger then a tyrant. What i mean is for example, if a dretch takes this relic, it'll become huge but if a tyrant grabs it, it will only grow a little while if we put the dretch next to the tyrant, they will be the same size (kinda)

Not sure how plague works. Sometimes when I am infected I don't lose hp. Sometimes I get corrupted aim only and sometimes I get both. We ran version 8 today. 12 people were having plague and only half of them were having negative effect. I am interested to know how plague exactly works.

Anyway, I am going to report all the bugs I have found in version8:

1. The mini relic. When your mini relic is replaced you are return to normal size but your max hp is still half. Not sure if it only happens when you are ejected or got plague. The damage and speed probably remain half too.

2. Also the mini relic. If a player with plague touches a mini version of another player. The mini player will return to its normal size and the two will be stuck forever. They can't attack each other or move and one of them has to be killed in order to move again.

3. You can't evolve to a bigger alien with a mini relic unless in mid air.

4. The plague relic. When you translocate a player with plague, you two will keep swapping positions every time the plague exerts its effect (with sounds and the plague icon everywhere). I discovered it with a teammate, not sure if it also happens with enemies.

5. The translocate relic produces stuck too (like the case in 2.)

6. Probably a lot more but I decide not to go on 8).

Since the plague relic works randomly and there is too much stuck, especially the plague is a griefer's favorite on sticking others. We are returning to version 6  :) .

I free-spec'd a game at ris's server yesterday where Plague Bringer and Kuri Kuri got stuck to each other or something at the Armoury, they were teammates, and they kept doing damage to each other, and the animation played like three times in a row. Wild.

Some general suggestions for version 8.

IF YOU HAVE PLAGUE OR RADIATION, GTFOutta t3h BASE!!! You infected, contagious, dangerous, TKing, deconning son-of-a-non-knowing-n00b!!!

(But srsly, we had so much Plague in base yesterday, I had to keep picking them up and running outside to get rid of them. There were five of them floating in front of the Medi, and three infected people pushing each other off of the healer-machine. Suicide in the other team's base, don't stand on the friggin' Medistation waiting to die! LOLz...)

Take that teleport closer to the enemy, too. That one is crazy in bases and small skirmishes. I should've made a demo of the free-spec, it was Plague Bringer & Kuri Kuri vs. AKAnatou and inferno. Can't remeber the exact ign coloring and another player joined the Humans at one point. Transit, on Ris's server. ROFLMAOzomfg!!!111!!!didyouseethat??

BIIIIIIG Thank you to you risujin for adding trans relic, I LOVE IT! Also, the dretch, yeah thats ok... i told him earlier! I hope he keeps it the way it is, dretch doesnt have a lot of HP anyway, he dies too fast :\ it should be based on percent rather than 3 damage a second or w/e it is...

i remember that, lol. before that i got telefragged by risujin tho...lol! anyways, i was experimenting with the teleport and seriously pissing off inferno at the same time. teleport+poison=hours of fun. *hurt*WARP*hurt*WARP etc. zap+teleport is a little bugged, the zap stays on at a 180 degree angle, but that's fun  and i like it

I see :). If I am not wrong only the person who started the plague can replace his relic, while those who got infected are immune to pick up relic until their death. Assume if the person who picked up the plague relic, player A only spread it to a teammate player B and player B spread the plague to every players on the server. If player A now change his relic to reverse, will he only heals player B or every person on the server? How about if player A died before anyone else? Will the plague lose its effect?

Though, How do you get rid of translocate with plague if it happens between teammates? Two tyrants keep swapping position and one of them has to /kill. I can't convince the server host to run version 8 if there are so many griefing choices. :(.

I thought people can still pick them up through the unknown relic? That is the case in my server that the relic number on players always exceeds the maximum number allowed.

And anything else new from version 7 except the new relics? Also if there are any plan on balancing the old relics? Like vampire being too powerful as human and using invisible to hide as the last resort in a lost game.

Turns out the machine thats running the server is going to be off during my vacation so the server is not going to be up. I did notice that there are a few other Relic servers around. Hopefully they are configured well and have decent admins. If not, please bug them about it. Sorry about this. :cry:

OK, just a quick little suggestion, based on an observation.

Observation: Big Aliens (goons and rants) can really infect a Human team with Plague (because they have the hit points to carry it into the human base and then run away and switch to another Relic). Also, they seem to be able to live with Radiation for quite a long while, too, and carrying this into the Human base creates a toxic zone of death around the Armoury/Medistation area (since they're traditionally placed together). Add one griefer/n00b/afk on the Human team and you've got completely unbalanced play.

Suggestion: Port a couple of classic Quake/Doom weapons to Relics mod, to give Humans a fighting chance against Plague & Radiation (although competent Humans can use these Relics to their advantage if they wish). My personal choices would be: t3h Super Shotgun, t3h Nailgun, t3h Railgun & t3h Lightning Gun. Just for the Relics mod, not for regular standard Trem. Super Shotgun & Nailgun = Stage 2; Railgun & Lightning Gun = Stage 3.

I know it's a lolmod, but I think this could help Humans survive a bit, and give players a reason to go Human in Relics version 8 (which is a rant/goon killing frenzy, at times). I'd like a weapon I can TK a Plague-griefer with in one shot. Plus something to keep goons from bringing that stuff into my base in the first place. XD

Also, since this is the most arcade of Tremulous mods, can you reintroduce the Arena Announcer and badges from Q3a? Say you kill the radi mara+ on top of the reactor. It'd be cool (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=quakeiiisoundboardoe0.swf) to hear:

A diff will show all of our own changes where the changes from relic v6 => v8 are hidden within well, like having the invisible relic :( ....

or should i just patch a v6 and diff it with the v8...? actually i want risujin to release patches that is for updating from older versions XDDDDDD

keep the version of relic you implemented
when new version comes apply the changes manually to yours

keep the version of domination you implemented
when new version comes apply the changes manually to yours

not easy I know. but you are combining 2 mods in 1

Since you've seen the patches, I'm sure you can tell that the Relic patch I release does not include a lot of the other changes that are in the VM. The patch is not backported, does not have mod help, or dretch punt. You can use the same method I use to keep your distro up to date.

The idea is to reverse patch the last version and patch the new version over it again:

(-R is reverse, -l ignores whitespace, that's lowercase L not I)

You need to fix any rejected files after running patch, but I usually don't have any. You might since you modified it! Use common sense.

I'd love to see a Heaven of Relics/Domination hybrid.

Also, can't wait to see the Balance Revisited: TremulousArcade evil plot come to fruition.
