MediaWiki (the tool that powers wikipedia) is a very powerful tool for running a wiki. I have put a propsition on a site that provides free hosting for wikis, and need support from the community:
http://requests.wikia.com/wiki/Trem
If we get this passed through, it would be great.
-
yeah a wiki for trem would be great... *adds support* : )
P.S. your link to the sstforums is broken
-
Hmmm...
A third Wiki for Tremulous?
http://www.tremwiki.com/ (First Wiki)
http://trem.maci.ws (SatGNU Wiki)
And now another? Things are getting a bit crowded.
-
Make that a fourth wiki :)

-
Not to be confused with the original Wiki-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremulous
I think we need some focus and consensus.
-
So... Let's all screw wiki's and mold everything in to one universal wiki.
-Oh and fix tremulous cse.
-
Maybe start to do 5th wiki; Upgrades to come Trem 2.0 (current 1.1.99 as maybe all knows)
-
Splendid idead, lets do another one, maybe with someinfo that is missing in the others, instead of working with/for the otheres.

i agree with cave. make a new wiki pls, the more we have, the easier it will be for noobs to find them.
-
Noob? I hope you are matching Cave's sarcasm. Cave's sarcasm I can tell, I'm not used to seeing it from you.

A nice distillation of the Common Base Locations thread could be useful, with the personal building lessons excised. Also, what noobs could really use is a brief overview of the common strategies for the default maps. One of the wikis gives some map hints, but a real review of the default maps and the basic team mission for each would be something that would help players to contribute more fully to the game. Almost a Prima Guide type of a walkthrough of each map, with the common room names, basic strategies, and a well-built base for each Stage illustrated fully.
For example, on ATCS you can pretty much stay in your base. On Karith, Aliens generally move into the lift room, while Humans move under the walkway (at the end away from the stairs). While some of this is explained in one or two of the wikis, they are very brief. A deeper, fuller explanation would be very helpful for newer players. While no two games of Tremulous are exactly the same, experienced players know the usual moves. Like guarding the vent into the lift room on Karith. Or getting that lucispammer by going out the front door, wallwalking up to the outside opening of the vent, and biting him right on the ass.
Some things, to paraphrase Hemingway, can only be taught by experience (like sex or bullfighting). While this is partly true for Tremulous, a little mission briefing sure wouldn't hurt.
In other words, if you're gonna do a wiki, please try to do something that hasn't already been done. Or improve an existing one. What Caveman said.

This will be a special wiki catered for the playing style as promoted by SST.

Finally! Resources for those players. They have been sorely ignored by the numerous posts/wiki's/sites/guides/podcasts/radioshows/ircchats provided by the Tremulous Community. They should stand up and embrace this wiki!

the success of the traditional wiki is ensured by some very sad/dedicated people who enjoy sharing knowledge with other people. if every experienced player on this forum pooled their knowledge into one giant wiki we would have a database capable of turning a noob into a pro.
i might exaggerate the above point but i do notice that most of the wiki's i visit have some good input but there seems to be a limit to what such a small and isolated community can do. if a wiki was created with the support of this forum it would surpass any other wiki's made to date. i'd contribute if someone was willing to create/manage it.
Edit: im not being lazy by not helping run it, i know shit-all about computers (at the moment anyway)...

omg i gess we dont need one but another site is all ways good 4 pr
-
How about we pool everything together into the wiki that currently has the most content.
-
The domained wiki (www.tremwiki.com) is the easiest for someone to find and remember. It is independant and not associated with any clan, group or special interest. A good start has been made. Content can be moved around easily and simply so picking a site with the most content is not really the best criteria, but copying and pasting from other sources without permission of the originating source could cause problems.
I am not affiliated with it other than I have contributed images for the starting bases (both human and alien) on each of the default maps in Tremulous. I am trying to get them listed and added for all maps in rotation. This was originally for my benefit as I could never remember what a map looked like by its name alone. (Getting, editing and compressing the images on the other maps has been a low priority.)
This discussion was played through once already when SatGNU started up their wiki. I'm not sure what was decided at the time other than there is room for more than one wiki. Unfortunately, their server has been down for awhile.
How to focus efforts on one wiki? Tough to do. Paradox knew the other wikis existed, but has reasons for trying something else, as did the others.
Hmmm.....
