Title: Idea: Spectators viewpoints
Post by: E-Mxp on April 22, 2007, 08:02:00 pm
My idea is to have different camerapositions when spectating. Like:

Firstperson
thirdperson
Topview (like in strategygames)
Actionview (camera floating in front of a player, looking at his face form a distance)
Shoulderview.

would be nice when making a movie or so. :D
Your comment plz.

first person & third person are only ones needed (mouse rotating camera view & mouse roll zoom).
I don't think anyone is botherd coding side future like this. And if such things come I want them to be in stock trem so you should rather post to feedback,

I don't like that at all.
There _IS_ a reason these views are considered cheating.

SPECTATOR view points. What, you afraid people will ghost?

Wow.. big whoop. The only time ghosting is required is at S1, and anything can get a 2hit KO then anyway so it doesn't matter if you know what's around the corner.

And big whoop if you're the one playing and you have a 3rd person view. It really doesn't help.

Plague, you have your point of view... Live with it, that it does not coincide with the rest of the world. Just because some Modder decided to disable the cheat-protection on this and make it an option in his mod, does _not_ make it legal in my book.

i dont see a problem with the idea, given it is only for _spectators_, it just makes it easier to do what they already can do, it is in no way a cheat.

Palgue Bringger is right. Only humans score from ghosting on s1. Ghosting in this game is waste of time anyway.

For one, I don't think this would be a big deal at all from a gameplay perspective.

Technically, this wouldn't really be that bad; it's more a matter of enabling functionality that's already there, since cg_thirdPerson is existent but disabled. However, I don't know much about the sv_pure checks, but I believe such a client modification wouldn't pass them. Thus, approval would have to be given from developers to put the implementation in both server and client sides.

For now, you'll have to settle for the fact that you can do it in demos.

Yea i frankly would like to see third person work for spectators. It would make it great for making those popular orbit gifs, ya know, where the camera orbits around a character.
And if your afraid of someone cheating, how the fuck can they cheat from a spectator perspective?
Tell the person that there is a human over there? Have one person have 2 connected clients, one with a character and the other specing? already a problem. I would say it is a good idea.

And the same code would doubtlessly be applied to demos, allowing you to do it without all of the bizarre interface issues that exist in demos currently. Having to use a bunch of create/download a script with a bunch of vstr bound to keys chosen arbitrarily from half the keyboard (the others end the demo for some reason) to change viewing angles is hardly intuitive.

if you're worried about ghosting, what stops someone from just free-spectating and following someone around telling them what is behind corners?
Or rotating through the enemy team to keep tabs on them.

@Lakitu
You can use third person in demos, to the best of my knowledge.

There there Odin, it's all over now. Someone else's time now...

I'm perfectly fine with getting a first person view when spectating someone as it is. I guess it could be an okay change to be able to see the third-person view of the guy you're spectating. But I'd rather be playing than spectating normally anyhow, so I don't care.

Try TJW's latest PK3. When dead, click middle mouse button to start speccing your teammates.
